HoosierCat Posted November 11, 2005 Author Report Posted November 11, 2005 Interesting (at least to me, and I admit to being easily interested...) postscript to the schedule discussion. I was looking at footballoutsiders during lunch and a couple posters there had pulled the schedule difficulty numbers for the Super Bowl teams for the last 7 years. First group is the winners, second is the losers...(Year/Team/Schedule Rank)1998/DEN/281999/STL/312000/BAL/262001/NE/272002/TB/252003/NE/182004/NE/91998 ATL 151999 TEN 262000 NYG 242001 STL 172002 OAK 32003 CAR 312004 PHI 22Bottom line: should the Bengals' easy sked lead them into the playoffs and/or the big game...well, that will be pretty much par for the course. BengalszoneBilly Posted November 12, 2005 Report Posted November 12, 2005 -- 7 of 12 thought the Cards would somehow make the playoffs. All in all, too funny. You think that's bad, I picked them as the Cinderella NFC team to meet our Bengals in the Super Bowl! How can I pick so well on one side, and so horribly on the other! Quote
redsfan2 Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 The easiest chunk of our schedule came at the beginning of the season, so we earned that tag early in the season. Such tags stick with teams for a long time. Even though we have some pretty tough games coming up, we will have the "easy schedule" label for the rest of the regular season, and for the offseason too if we can't win a playoff game. If we handle our business and knock off the Colts and/or the Steelers, then I imagine these comments will stop. We'd all like to think that the comments would stop ....... and I guess in a way they would. They'd just be replaced tho with a whole new set. Remember the Chiefs game that we " couldn't win " ? After the Chiefs lost in Cincinnati, all the talking heads could talk about was why the Chiefs lost ....... nary a word about the Bengals just plain beating them. If you're thinking " .... that was last year ", refer to the Vikes game this year. Nary a word about the ass whoopen the Bengals laid on them. It was all " what happened to the Vikes? "As to our easy schedule, ..... did anyone else notice how these teams immediately became " tougher " after they played the Bengals ?Truth is, we took a long time to build this " image " of ours ...... and it's going to take a long time to get rid of it. wookie Posted November 13, 2005 Report Posted November 13, 2005 Who really cares about public perception of how it happened...the Bengals are 7-2 and headed toward the 1st winning record I've seen since I was just starting High School.I'm going to enjoy this no matter what the writers are saying. HoosierCat Posted November 14, 2005 Author Report Posted November 14, 2005 A few memos to pundit-land......one specifically to Peter "lardass" King, who whined a couple weeks ago that he wasn't impressed by the Bengals "outlasting" the Packers. Hey, maybe you oughta check with Mike Vick today about those Packers......AFCE is now the worst division, not the NFCN...Minny is pushing to be the third (after Chicago and, soon, Indy, of course) winning team we beat. Oh, did I mention those Packers weren't quite as bad as you thought?...What did we lose to Jax by, in their house? What did Balti lose to Jax by, in Baltimore? And who was supposed to be the AFCN champ?...anyhow, go Br...Br...Br...Browns... Quote
jjakq27 Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...john&id=2217806 The Bengals are destined to win 11 or 12 games because of an easy schedule. If the Steelers slip up or if Roethlisberger misses more than two games, they could lose the division and a possible second seed to the Bengals. Hey, John, maybe you ought tocheck the Steelers sked, too? Las time I checked we had 12 common opponents, plus two games vs. each other -- and our two uncommon opponents are both a combined 8-8 right now. But we're only going to win 11-12 games because of an easy sked? Hey, if the AFCN sked is so easy why don't the Ravens and Browns have more wins? I agree. Just like last year. The Steelers were 15-1 and we were 8-8 with the same schedule (except for 2 games). Teams have no control over whether a team or division sucks or is dominating. Just win baby.-- 7 of 12 thought the Cards would somehow make the playoffs. All in all, too funny. You think that's bad, I picked them as the Cinderella NFC team to meet our Bengals in the Super Bowl! How can I pick so well on one side, and so horribly on the other! Just remember Billy, Cinderella was a made-up story! Quote

That's right, because the Bengals have an easy schedule. I seem to remember the Bengals smoking the Vikings at home, not losing to them. Nice game Eli... Quote

Nice game Eli...The experts will have to start realigning their thinking caps this week (if they have one actually). GB over ATL and MINN over NYG makes Cincy's sched look alot more credible...And the next 7 games will be MUCH HARDER than everybody, including the experts, think... Quote
derekshank Posted November 14, 2005 Report Posted November 14, 2005 I'm actually fine with the experts not believing in us yet. On Mike and Mike this morning, they mentioned the Bengals playing the Colts, and just assumed it was a loss... no discussion on it... it was a forgone conclusion.Just like the Patriots had no chance against the Rams in the superbowl... why even play the game? Oh yeah... that was the first year of a dynasty. Is there anyone that doesn't believe they were the real deal now?The point is... teams often play better when they have a lot to prove. Even last year, everyone thought that the Pats would lose to either the Colts or the Steelers. They still had something to prove. We still have a lot to prove to the nation... and while I'll argue that we are better than they say we are, there is something pure about having to prove it on the field of play before you make believers out of the media. So for my part... I'll argue with my Colts fans friends about how they are overrated, and we are underrated... but until we prove it on the field, it's just my opinion... it doesn't really count for anything. So, enough talk... this nation is like Missouri... Show me. Quote

On Mike and Mike this morning, they mentioned the Bengals playing the Colts, and just assumed it was a loss... no discussion on it... it was a forgone conclusion.I agree 100%. Let them think we're weak, up until the time we run it up in them. I hope they beat the Colt, but I think it is more important for them to come away from this game without any major injuries. The big game is going to be at Pittsburgh. If the Cats go into Pittsburgh healthy, they win. Quote

Columbusbengal Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 I say let them talk. This team will continue to improve and may just blind side one to the teams that the media is in love with. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted November 16, 2005 Report Posted November 16, 2005 It doesn't matter. The Bengals beat the Colts and the writers will be lined up on their knees.Naw. They'll just point out that the Colts have only beaten 2 teams with winning records this season. We will still get no respect. Quote
