derekshank Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 CBS isn't updated yet... but Prisco gave us a generous C+ grade on the game. We've dropped all the way down to 9th on ESPN.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/powerranking Quote
turningpoint Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 that's where I expect us, the #5 afc team as or right now.Behing the steelers, colts, bronocs and jags.I we some how win our next 3 games we should be #1.( would include a colts win) Quote
CJBestInAFC Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 How are the Jags ranked lower than the Steelers? A team the Jags beat, but somehow are not even in the top 5. I think the Steelers are not the 2nd best team in the NFL. Shut down their running game and you shut down the Steelers. That and the only team with a winning record that the Steelers beat were the Bengals. Those rankings are fine but move the Steelers down and move the Jags up in front of the Steelers. Quote

I'm sorry, I wanted to believe the Bengals were top 5 as much as anybody, but the reality is that they are not. They are a very good team, but even a #9 ranking is generous. I would rank them anywhere from 11 to 15 at this point.BUT, they have more up-side than just about any other team. They could easily be a top 5 team by the end of the year. The Bengals are a work in progress. Let's enjoy the process. Quote

Jet23 Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 IMO Indy, Denver, Pitt and Atlanta are the class of the NFL. After that you can take the next 12 teams and put them in a hat. Teams that look great one week, look like crap the next. It is just really difficult to get a true read on how good teams really are this year. Quote

Teams that look great one week, look like crap the next. It is just really difficult to get a true read on how good teams really are this year. How can your criteria for the "class of the NFL" be not looking great one week, and then looking like crap the next... but then you have Denver and Atlanta in as "the class of the NFL"?Denver got killed by Miami in week one.. and had a meltdown last week against the Giants. Atlanta lost to Seattle... and if there hadn't been a bad penalty called would have gotten beat by a Saints team that was steamrolled by the Packers. Yeah... those teams have been consistent all season. Quote
HoosierCat Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 I think what's remarkable about this season so far is the plethora of abyssmal teams. There are right now 12, count 'em 12, teams with only 1 or 2 wins out of 6-7 tries. The Fins, Jets, Titans, Texans, Ravens, Browns, Raiders, Saints, Vikes, Packers, Cards, and Niners are a combined 19-55 (.257). Yikes.By comparison, last season the bottom 12 teams finished a collective 54-122 (.307).So if it seems tough figuring out if anyone is for real this year...that's because there is an unusually high amount of crap in the water. kingwilly Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 What is even funnier is that some people were picking the Ravens and Minny to go all the way!!! The fools..Of that list, the Jets, Green Bay and Minny all went to the playoffs. Quote
HoosierCat Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 What is even funnier is that some people were picking the Ravens and Minny to go all the way!!! The fools..Count me among them. At least the Ravens can point to the QB situation (Kyle Boller may suck, but Anthony Wright absolutely blows). But the Vikes have just self-destructed on and off the field. And now word is that Zygi may not fire Tice!!! Of that list, the Jets, Green Bay and Minny all went to the playoffs.Green Bay I expected to be bad after they jettisoned their o-line, tho not this bad, but they've had horrible luck with injuries. The Jets...hey, when both your No. 1 and 2 QBs go down you are f**ked. Anyone here think we'd be 5-2 with Craig Krenzel under center? Quote

Stripes Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...eek7/index.htmlDr. Z dropped us to number 15. The formula for Dr. Z's power rankings (in the Bengals case) is to take the average of all other published rankings and subract 5. Quote
richmond_mat Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 I don't much care about nfl power rankings, but it's always fun to have your team on top. All the love for Denver may be unwarranted. They may, as Dan Marino pointed out, have just begun their nose dive from the top, just as they often do. They are a sprinter in a marathon. The bengals laid an egg and their ranking suffered. So what as long as we win the next one and the next and the next and.......who cares? Quote
