USMC203
I can not understand why Coach Marvin is not going to dress S. Smith. I think he is one of the better run stoppers. Help me out here!!!
Kirkendall
He's not dressing to free up a spot for TJ (as per Hobson) dressing all six WRs for the first time. Pollack is starting for the second week. http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=4757

Hey, but if there is some magic out there to make this work, maybe Marvin will find it! Maybe we'll go with no center
Kirkendall
Also C.Henry is getting the start at #2 WR.

Kirkendall
Also Ward is starting, and Big Ben is reported to be "100%". We'll see if we can put pressure on him how well he does outside the pocket with that injury.
USMC203
I would think it would have been better to dress Smith v Run than Washington, catch one pass and that all he thinks he has to do.
HoosierCat
I would think it would have been better to dress Smith v Run than Washington, catch one pass and that all he thinks he has to do.The message here is that the Bengals game plan consists of three parts: Throw the ball, throw the ball...and throw the ball. If we do that sucessfully, Pitt can run to its heart's content, it won't matter because Cincy will put up 40+ points. And it should be noted that the "pass first, second and last" strategy has had a lot of boosters around here (including me) all week. So it looks like the bengals will be putting their money wheere our mouths are.

I see this as a sign that Coach Lewis has genuinely done his homework, and is willing to 'go against football tradition' with this one. It will work. Kirkendall
I would think it would have been better to dress Smith v Run than Washington, catch one pass and that all he thinks he has to do.If we depend on Smith to help stop the run, then we're in trouble. (but yea, I like the guy too).A look back against Pitts secondary with Carson:In '04:Carson game #1: 20-37 164 yrds 1 TD and 2 INTCarson game #2: 13-25 165 yrds 2 TD and INT

Seriously, if he throws for 225+, then they will also run for 100. Pass to set up the run against the Steelers. Make it work.
BengalszoneBilly
And it should be noted that the "pass first, second and last" strategy has had a lot of boosters around here (including me) all week. So it looks like the bengals will be putting their money where our mouths are. That might have been a good strategy up until it started raining. Throwing the football is a chancy proposition. Throwing the football when it's wet and heavy is even chancier! But here's the bright side: I'm counting on Odell and the rest of the defense to come in fired up to really take it to the Steelers, so a flawed offensive game plan won't hurt too much. Quit worrying.
USMC203
Ok, we pass all day,Maybe he don't dress Smith for the run because he is going to play speed rush all day and there O line is banged up. Maybe this will be Pollack day to show what he was drafted for!!!
schweinhart
Not dressing Shaun Smith looks like a blunder to me.Of the 3 true DTs, Smith is the hardest to move and the best bullrusher. Plus, if B-Rob or Thornton goes down it leaves them thin up the middle. This decision sounds like there's gonna be a lot more stunting than we've seen so far this season w/ Odell shooting gaps, plus more play w/ a 4-man front and 4 LBs. Could work but gotta think there was somebody else better suited to be inactive than Smith.
