The Difference One Game Could Make

Alright, I know it is just one game, and surely I for one will not 'end the season' with a loss tomorrow. Hey, 5-2 and 1-1 in the division is hardly reason to prepare for the '06 Draft.

But ...

Let's take a peak at what tomorrow could bring, both good and bad, with the bad being first of course (I always, much like George Costanza, "like to leave on a high note"):

Scenario One - The Loss

Bengals are 5-2 and the Steelers are 4-2. The Bengals could easily bounce back from this, and move on to GB and Baltimore before the bye and grab a couple victories. Then again, they could be hurtin' from a hard-fought loss, and head to playing Favre and company, who could easily surprise them and then they are heading to Baltimore and the break on low notes. The point is that with a loss tomorrow, the margin for error becomes incredibly small, and anything (good or bad) could happen from here on out. With this, as well, the Steelers would be 4-2, increased their road streak, and holding their overly proud (uh ... arrogant) heads high with yet another division victory. Then they move on to the Monday Nighter against the Ravens on Halloween, and continue with a pretty easy schedule outside of the Monday Nighter in Indy. This would be the confidence they need to see themselves as still the champs.

Scenario Two - The Win

Bengals are 6-1 and the Steelers are 3-3. The Steelers could also bounce back from this, and move on to a Monday Night victory against the Ravens, continue forward. Then agains, they could (uh, would) have a taste of humility for once, and head into the Raven game awaiting yet another home surprise. The point here is that with a loss tomorrow, the margin for error for them becomes incredibly small, and anything (good or boad) could happen from here on out. With this, as well, the Bengals would be 6-1, increased their home streak, and holding their newly proud heads quite high. Then we move on against the Pack with great confidence, and I see no way for a let down there. In fact, I would guess our confidence would lead us to victories all the way to the bye week and therefor be 8-1 awaiting the home game against the Colts.

See the difference? Yeah, it's one game, and surely either team might live to enjoy a division title in '05, but I like the Scenario Two much, much better. I surely do hope and surely do expect this to happen. This is THE GAME we've all be waiting for. Yes, it does mean that much. It means that much to the Bengals, it means that much to the Steelers, it means that much to the city, it means that much to our great fans, and yes, it absolutely means that much to me. I long to strut my stuff in the streets of Pittsburgh on Monday with all my Bengal attire. Oh please ... oh please ... bring us home a victory!

Come on Bengals! Come on Chad! Come on Carson! Come on Marvin! Come on Odell! Come on Chris! Come on every single one of you! It's THE DAY to do your job! It's THE DAY to strut your stuff, and take over the division!

There's a new champ in town, and this ain't your daddy's Bengals. Time for a long-awaited change. Enjoy your ride home Benji Boy.

GO BENGALS!

Nice write-up.

Packers game is in Cincy, though, which will help one way or another.

Thanks for the correction. Sometimes I sit here in Pittsburgh and hear so much, that I confuse things ... it's the Steelers that visit Lambeau with the Pack visiting the Bengals. Duh. Again ... thanks for keeping me honest there. (I corrected the original comment)

And with a victory by our Bengals, I will glady and most excitedly continue the 'Pittsburgh - The Inside Scoop' thread just to share the crying, and how humbled the town will be. Oh, dare to dream ... the scenario would be one for me to share with my children and grand-children. I will begin a long family tradition of 'The Day It All Changed'.

The next best turd, was calling me crazy for saying this is the biggest game of the year!

Spain, every individual week is the biggest of the year. If the Bengals had not treated the previous six weeks as such, this game would be meaningless.

I wouldnt really sweat this game tomorow as much as people are saying. Its still a big game, just not HUGE like people seem to think. I think we will end up splitting with Pitt anyway. It would be a big confidence booster to win, but losing wouldnt suprise me either, because Pitt needs this one more then we do.

Yea but damn, I really don't think I can handle one more home loss to the Steelers. It makes me sick inside to see bettis dancing in our endzones.
