redsfan2
People ( read media ) have been high on him since the season opener. He was a choice in the poll for Who Won The Game today with his int return for a td. I'd thought that talk of Defensive Rookie of The Year was a bit premature ... up to this point. I think his play today puts him in the drivers seat for it. Sound play for the rest of the year sews it up. Yea ????? .................. Nea ???????? turningpoint
NO.he needs to keep it up and it will be his though. It's only been 6 games.I'd love to see him win rookie of the month again..would be quite sweet.

HoosierCat
Odell has been No. 1 on profootballweekly.com's rookie of the year meter for a couple weeks now...didn't do anything to hurt that today...but there's a lot of football yet to be played. When I said ... sound play for the rest of the year, I meant playing to what he has already established as his standard .... for the remainder of the season. If .... IF he does that, then I think he's front runner ( as noted by Joisey ). Another int or fumble recovery for a td makes it a lock .... again and as always in my opinion only. NYBengalfan
Why aint you answering, remember you accused me of busting on BAX, I would never bust on a fellow fanOdell needs a few more games like this and we need to keep on winning

wookie
Wow, things have changed quite a bit since I've been here last. I like the new look, hopefully my new job won't be keeping me away from the internet much longer and I'll have more time to devote to the AFC North leading Bengals!!! Anyway, Thurman has been exceeding everyone's expectations so far. He was considered a steal in the 2nd round, but I don't think anyone expected him to be as far along as he is at this point in the seaon. Its also nice to see Bengals' players getting some attention for their accomplishments. A few years ago Thurman could be having just as good a year and the Bengals would be 1-5 or 0-6 and no one would be talking ROY.Who is Thurman's biggest competition for the honor? For Thurman to win the award he has to stay sharp, keep showing up around the ball, and making plays when he has the opportunity. The only time I saw him play was in the Jacksonville game, and he had a very mediocre game that night. I even saw him rush up like he was going to tackle Taylor and put a shoulder into him which only succeeded in causing him to roll off and let Taylor gain another couple of yards. Our MLB has to wrap up the ball-carrier, not just to win an award but to keep the Bengals on top of the division. Considering that the RBs he will be tackling(Bettis, Lewis, etc) are bigger and stronger than Taylor.

jamesbrooks21
Thurman defintely has the inside track to the award but with ten games still to be played, it's hardly locked up.
Bobcat Bengal
Thurman is the front runner.Keep doing what you do, Odell.I was a little disappointed that he let Chris Brown bounce off of him for that end zone TD.Nice dance though. PMThor
Odell is definitely in the mix for it, but as was stated, it is still waaaay too early to give it to him. Or anyone else either. Odell overpursues too much and goes for the big hit rather than wrapping up and making the tackle sometimes. But those are easily coachable fixes, and it looks that he is receptive to fixing those mistakes. I love his passion, but sometimes it gets the better of him. The more time he gets in the league and with some added maturity at his position I really see him as a premiere defensive player for the long run. Stripes
It's a fine sig indeed, though if you can find a picture of his big interception against Tennessee, that'd be the coolest.

BlainThePain
Odell needs to start making more tackles to win it in my opinion. I'd say theres about a 90% chance it will be Odell or Derrick Johnson. Right now Johnson has 9 more tackles than him, which is a lot for this early in the season. If Johnson smokes him in the tackle category then I think he will win it. The first thing most people look at when they judge a linebacker is the number of tackles he has and hardly anybody looks at forced fumbles. Those INTs definantly give him an edge, but it will still come down to total tackles. I think Johnson has gotten more hype so far too. If Thurman gets in the endzone a few times then he can still win with fewer tackles. 9 tackles is a lot to overcome, but if Thurman does listen to the coaches and remembers to wrap up the ball carrier then he will be fine in that category. I like the fact that he always seems to be around the ball, that only means he'll continue to get opportunities to make plays.
The_Next_Big_Thing
Playing defense isn't all about defense. Being a big hitter and forcing fumbles and making the grabs for INTs and scoring TDs IS looked at. So are sacks. They are equal on the sacks, but Thurman has scored and Thurman has forced fumbles. When judging what a linebacker has done, perhaps for Pro-Bowl consideration, I would agree. However, it seems in recent years, the most highly lauded defensive rookie of the year candidates have been consistent in certain categories. Guys in the secondary have a lot of interceptions, and linebackers have a lot of tackles.
