walzav29
3rd rnd - Chris Henry - 13-2151st rnd - Mike Williams - 5-1321st rnd - Troy Williamson - 9-1661st rnd - Braylon Edwards - 9-1661st rnd - Mark Clayton 11-861st rnd - Matt Jones 10-891st Rnd - Roddy White 2-14Strong drafts are the reason the Bengals will end up being a dynasty. Now if we could get our defensive draft picks to shut down the run, we'll be all set.
Columbusbengal
I think they will once they get a little more experience. Gaethers needs to play on passing downs only. Madieu needs to stay healthy (I think Sean Webster will help if he ever gets healthy, also). The new linebackers just need more experience. Hopefully, we will be able to find a defensive lineman or two in next year's draft. There really wasn't a good one available when we drafted this year. Also, I'm not writing off Askew or Fanene yet, either.

Now if we could get our defensive draft picks to shut down the run, we'll be all set.You have to also look at their QB's.Chris Henry--Carson PalmerMike Williams--Joey Harrington Troy Williamson--Daunte "I need Moss" CulpepperBraylon Edwards--He's a Brown, for goshsakesMark Clayton--He's a Raven, for goshsakesMatt Jones--Byron Leftwich, but he's a projectRoddy White--Michael "Got the Runs" VickBut I still agree, a WR in the 1st round is very risky, because there's always a large talent pool available in later rounds. Chris Henry will still have the best career of all of these unless the other WRs leave their team or get new QBs.Anyone care to research and look up the success of past 1st round WRs? Jet23
Let's see. Jerry Rice is the greatest receiver of all time and he was drafted in the first round. Isaac Curtis was the greatest Bengal receiver of all time and he was drafted in the first round. Many of the best receivers currently playing were first rounders: Moss, Harrison, Holt, Williams, Fitzgerald. Exceptions: CJ (2nd), Hines Ward (3rd), TO (3rd), S. Smith (3rd), Rod Smith (FA)
Spain
I think Largent was the best and Jerry had way better teams! Probably alone on this!
jjakq27
Here is a link to NFL.com with the drafts since 1982 and all WR's taken in that draft.http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/positions/WRI think I'm over it now but taking Eddie Brown at 13 instead of Jerry Rice (16) in 1985 used to eat at me everytime he did something great....like win another Super Bowl. The 1985, 1988 and 1996 drafts were solid in the first round and the 2004 class has a chance to be great also. Your point is well taken, WR's are probably too big of a risk in the first round, when there are success stories at the later rounds every year. Section 310
Come on WALZAV29 you idiot!! Have you forgotten about David Verser in Round 1?? Our Round 2 pick that year was another WR...some joker named Collinsworth??Verser was awesome!!
OrangeStripes
I wouldn't judge everything about 1st round widerecievers because some are good picks from the coaches and some are bad but we have good coaches that know what their doing and who their working with so thats why it is possible to make our 3rd round picks look like 1st round picks Mike Williams--Joey Harrington
Jet23
I think Largent was the best and Jerry had way better teams! Probably alone on this! You are 100% correct. About being alone that is. Besides, Largent had the great Jim Zorn throwing to him...
Stripes
In recent years, first round receivers haven't lived up to the billing. Players like Peter Warrick, David Terrel, Charles Rodgers, Freddie Mitchell, and Travis Taylor (I think he was a first rounder) come to mind. I would only call this a slump, however, because there have been many more first round receivers that have been excellent. I think we are starting to return to those days now with players like Roy Williams and Larry Fitzgerald.
Dadraftnick
I agree WR's are the easiest thing to find late in the draft. Teams usually put their best athelete at the position and most teams have two or three good WR's. Numbers alone make it easier to draft one late in the draft. Titanpride
With today's Salary cap, revenue sharing... ect, there will never be a dynasty with the same group of players... that being said, I agree that you should never draft a receiver in the first round or a O-lineman ( with mabe the exception of a OT... depending on the dictation of the draft ). The best value you can create is QB, RB, CB, DT in the first... WR,TE, LB in the second... OL, SS in the Mid-to-late rounds and then create depth with your late day two(2) picks. A team needs to create value and have a great Coaching staff to develope talent and WR and OL are the perfect positions to exploit that. walshfan
I dont believe it matters in the position.. Its the PLAYER you draft.. Its up to scouting department to evaluate the player head to toe and make the right pick in the first second or whatever round they deem his value is in...... Ain't it cool that they both had the same number during their Seahawk tenures? Well I guess they always had the same number, but ya know what I mean. San Antonio Bengal
Ain't it cool that they both had the same number during their Seahawk tenures? Well I guess they always had the same number, but ya know what I mean.Don't want to start anything, but no, it wasn't cool. That number was Largent's number and Rice taking it was very disrespectful. When a number is retired, it should stay that way. If you switch teams and you can't get the number you want, that's your problem.

Normally, I would agree, had Rice not asked Largent for permission to wear the number. Largent said is was alright, so it's alright for me too.
