Stripes
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor..._len&id=2181151I personally think they are pulling the trigger a little to early. I can understand letting him play during garbage time, as the 49ers should see plenty of that this year. I don't think, however that he should be handed the reigns of the 49er offense just yet. I may be a little biased becasue of how Marvin handled business with Carson, but still... Recent examples show that throwing a young quarterback into the fire early can be problematic, such as David Carr, Joey Harrington, and Josh McCown. Who?
With most quarterbacks I would just say to make them sit the bench for a year, but I feel different about Alex Smith, I say let the man start for the year.

You know you feel that way because of Palmer's success.
Stripes
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor..._len&id=2182225In other quarterbacking news around the league, the Bills have temporarily demoted J.P. Losman in favor of Kelley Holcomb, and the Jets have named Vinny Testeverde the starter.I don't like the Bills going to Holcomb yet. Their season is already over, and Holcomb can only be so much of a boost. Losman really has struggled mightily, but I'd keep him out there... Let him continue through the growing pains. He's already has his year off. As far as Testeverde goes, I don't think the Jets had much of a choice.
AMC
he is a product of the Urban Meyer system....could end up like all the tedford QBs...
BlainThePain
he is a product of the Urban Meyer system....could end up like all the tedford QBs...There is a huge difference between the two systems. Tedford's system makes everything simple for the QB and thats why they struggle on the pro level. Urban Meyer's offense is complicated and takes a long time to learn. Urban Meyer's offense is complicated and takes a long time to learn. So Kyle Boller struggles because the offense Billick runs is too complicated? You could be correct, but I am more inclined to believe that Kyle Boller struggles because Kyle Boller....sucks.
schweinhart
It would kinda be fun to watch Alex Smith run for his life. He'll be lucky to get out of this year without getting his legs broken.Losman would have been a lot luckier iof Troy Vincent would have broke his leg agian before the season started.Kyle Boller just flat out sucks and Brian Billick is an idiot, who has squandered one of the best defenses in NFL history. Stripes
Definitely a rough game for Smith. That 49er offensive line played hard all game long, but was simply overmatched. Smith is lucky to have nay mobility, or else he'd have been planted a good ten times.
