R-U-D-I
Cause he sure is not on the stat sheet from yesterday....Imagine the hollering if we were 0-3 and not 3-0. I guess the question is will he develop into Peter Bouleware or James Francis?
skyline
I guess the question is will he develop into Peter Bouleware or James Francis? I think the answer is: only time will tell.He missed training camp, and he's behind. It's going to take him some time to catch up. I believe he's going to be a very good player for the Bengals, but we've got to give him time to come around before we start making any serious judgements one way or the other. I guess the question is will he develop into Peter Bouleware or James Francis? What is really scary is that guys like Pollack, Geathers and Smith have not provided the pash rush we expected, but the defense is still getting it done. There is nothing wrong with having room for improvement.
Stripes
I thought Pollack played very well against Chicago while he was on the field. He and Justin Smith were in the quarterback's face on numerous occassions.Give him time.
DC_Bengals_Fan
Quite frankly, Pollack *not* getting noticed this week was an improvement for him.
PhunkE1
He's pretty much just a rush end right now. I did see him get double teamed on a couple of plays, so at least the opposing offenses are giving him some respect.
ahanes
People will have to be patient with Pollack. The holdout no doubt is playing a role in his quiet start. But the good thing is that the Bengals are no longer in a position where they are counting on rookies to produce.*
Benzoo
James Francis was a pretty good football player, and if Pollack turned out like him, I wouldn't consider him a bust.He wasn't a superstar, but he wasn't a bust either. kingwilly
These first few games are Pollack's training camp. unfortunate but true. If he stays invisible into the heart fo the schedule, then he should be taken to task. He was in there with some fire vs Minny but also cost us some penalty yards. I look for him to kick-in about week 6 vs Jags. Hopefully the bye week will get him over the hump.
Spain
Water boy screwed his self when he was slotted and played agent, now he probably wont have an impact this year. thats tge pass rush we are lacking. Im sure he will come around but the guy aint bright.
Bengalbob
Here's a blurb from Pasquarelli's "Heard in the Press Box" ESPN.com column:"Bengals coaches love the fire and tenacity of first-round linebacker David Pollack. But the former Georgia star is making too many mental errors, and poor judgements, and the staff chalks that up to the fact that Pollack missed virtually all of camp in a contract dispute."http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor..._len&id=2172616Nothing new and special, but confirmation of what's already been said. He missed all of camp and he's playing a new position ... and of course he's a rookie. He's going to have to catch up so he can beat somebody out to even get on the field. He will. And when he does , he'll be good ........ But for godsake give him time. Remember ... Palmer sat for a Year and he seems ( imho ) to be turning out OK. ShulaSteakhouse
They are giving Pollack no responsibilities other than strictly rushing the QB on 3rd down passing situations, and lining him up in a down stance outside of the tackle/TE. I was wondering if he was having problems picking things up, because his responsibilities never seem to increase. LJ is doing a solid job as well, despite being in a less productive position, and is simply a better LB at this point still.Of all the good things so far this year, he is not one of them.I still hold out hope he will come around with time like everyone else. He looks like a Jr. Justin Smith out there at times with his speed and athleticism. Those two are more disruptive than you think.Geathers is suffering from being moved inside on 3rd down passing situations - I honestly wish he were in Pollack's place in those situations. And was it just me or did I see Askew making a play in the backfield Sunday and looking solid? I tell you what, I'm starting to think this is a bit of a blessing in disguise - Thurman will be solid, I expect, by the time they start giving Pollack actual responsibility at LB. That's better than having two starting rookie LBs, one of which plays somewhat undisciplined (Thurman), and one of whom is switching positions.I think this is going to work out just fine. alense
I thought at the beginning of the season that we wouldn't really even hear Pollack's name until week 7. By then he will have settled down, learned more of the defense, and had some experience with the few plays he has been getting. I look for him to be a factor in bringing down Big Ben! ShulaSteakhouse
Yeah, he's basically playing DE out there. Systematically working people into the mix instead of just sticking them in there (like in years past) based on their draft status or the inability to resign people, is a good thing.Actually that was Shaun Smith whom I saw not Askew (obviously). He's credited with a tackle so have to assume it was the TFL up the middle that I saw.
alleycat
Is Askew still gimpy? Wondering why Shaun Smith is getting the nod over him. Not that I haven't liked what I've seen with Smith. Also, I am a little confused over why we don't have Jumpy playing on the edge in passing situations. I realize we can't have three guys on the two edges, but he was so productive last year when in. What I'm really looking forward to is the time when Pollack is prepared enough that we send him as the stunting linebacker for blitzes through gaps. That way we have good rush ends (I would still take an upgrade in the draft) and a helluva pass rusher coming from who knows where?
HairOnFire
Here's a blurb from Pasquarelli's "Heard in the Press Box" ESPN.com column:"Bengals coaches love the fire and tenacity of first-round linebacker David Pollack. The above is the type of stuff we all expected, but I have an additional complaint that I haven't heard discussed anywhere. Despite the lack of sacks so far I'm pretty satisfied with the amount of pressure Pollack is putting on the QB....but he spends more time on the ground than I expected.
