Walter catches on as BengalsÂ’ No. 3 WR

Burleson has the crown as Vikes’ new No. 1 receiver

CINCINNATI — Kevin Walter has emerged as the Cincinnati Bengals’ No. 3 receiver behind Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

“He’s just solid,” quarterback Carson Palmer said. “Chad steals a lot of the highlight shows, but Kevin’s in there making big blocks and making catches on third down. He knows the playbook inside and out, can play every position, and is strong. He does a great job of blocking down field in the run game.”

Walter caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown, and his blocking contributed to the Bengals’ 148 rushing yards in a 27-13 victory at Cleveland.

“He continues, when called upon, to react and be in the right spots and make good plays,” head coach Marvin Lewis said. “I’m very proud of what he’s done, and he ought to be proud of what he’s done, and hopefully, more of our players continue to take notice of what he’s done. The more he does, the more opportunity he gets to play.”

Walter should thank Kelly Washington for completely looking like crap, he's really opened the door to lose his job. I would like to see Chris Henry get a chance though. Have they mentioned what they're going to do with the spot Watson left open - that should let Henry dress, from what I've heard, instead of activating another RB.

They signed an extra fullback.

I dont think it matters..walter is real good, washington can be at times, but in a few years at the most henry will be our #2 so housh will be #3.

Wow, that's putting the cart waaayyy before the horse. Henry could end up being the next David Verser. I don't think that's gonna happen. But with the difference in physical tools, who thought Collinsworth would dwarf Verser's career when the two were drafted. I also thought Washington would be our #2 before the end of last year.

I think Kelley Washington is a good luck charm. Housh and Walter have went from castoffs to beating out KW and becomming good all around football players.

What? When was TJ ever a castoff? We drafted him, never cut him, he had a good 2nd season, was injured his 3rd, and took off in his 4th. That wasnt a castoff, it was a player developing. Dont confuse an injured season for a bad one.

Yeah, but they're not activating him for this weekend, unless Marvin changed his mind.

In case you didn't notice, it was very touch and go as to whether TJ would even make the team out of training camp in 2004. ML went so far as to call TJ china doll because he was injured so easily. And Marvin's record on cutting players drafted by the previous regime that can't stay on the field is clear. They most often get released. Thank goodness he realized what a talent TJ was and kept him around.
