NEW Bengals Website

I talked with bengals.com around three weeks ago. I was complaining about the ugly B on the homepage. They replaced it, and then they told me about their new website. They have a NEW bengals.com website they are almost done building. They told me they wanted to launch it before the first game. So, hang-in-there, soon they will have a new website.

What other team listens to their fans?

Well I hope they don't mess with it too much! I don't want a bunch of lag-making sound effects and video, like the Baltimore or Tampa Bay sites.

I don't want it to change, but it is nice to see them responding to the popular demands amongst most Bengals fans.

By the way, Rick, your avatar frightens me. :o

Agreed man. I hate the sites that are all flash crap.

Bengals is one of the best IMO

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I love Bengals.com just the way it is.  What's to complain about?  I hope they don't change it too much.

My complaint is that it's butt ugly.

It looks like it was dragged through some mud and beaten with an ugly stick.

So you want a bunch of animation and other stuff that takes forever to load and makes it impossible to find anything?

I don't need eye candy, personally.

No. I don't like flash either.

What I DO want are graphics that don't look like they were made by a 1st grader. The logo is an insult to web designers everywhere. I can't believe they actually paid someone for that...

It's entirely possible to have a nice, fast-loading site, that looks nice while at the same time being organized well so that information is easy to find. It's not asking a lot...

I like the current design for the reasons already mentioned. I'm looking for news and content and they provide that. Everything else is a distraction.

A distraction?

So why not just have a white page with text?

If you want to talk about distracting...THIS is distracting:

Home.Banner.1.jpg

What were they thinking!?!?

I don't see anything wrong with that picture, personally. What's so bad about it? It is a creative picture involving the greatest Bengals coach ever, and his current competition, and it tells visitors where they are.

What else do you need?

Sorry. I'm a picky graphics guy. It's just a very amateurish photoshop job. If you're going to pay someone to design a site, then they better know a little more about graphics than that. A million people out there could have done a better job for free.

Shoot...if I were them, I'd host a logo design contest, and pick the best one. They'd get a much improved logo, and wouldn't have to pay a dime for it.

I don't go to Bengals.com to look at the logo at the top of the page.  I go there for Bengals info.  And that site seems to have an endless amount of it.  Don't change it!

*sigh*

You can have both! It is possible, you know.

It's not like this is a one or the other type of situation...

I'd like to have a website that people go to and instantly think, hey that's nice, rather than "For the love of God, I think I'm blind!!"

Again, I especially feel this way if you're paying for someone to do this. If you're spending your money then you should get a quality product.

Having a decent-looking website doesn't mean that Hobson's articles and all the valuable information will instantly vanish into some infinite abyss.

Check out JTs new site. I could do without the flash, but it's a nice, clean looking site, and all of the information is readily available at the top of the page:

I just need to quit teaching and pursue a career as a web designer.

One more time...

Making a cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing web site IS NOT THE SAME THING AS getting rid of content. For those of you who keep chiming in about content, what difference does it make if some of the rest of us want to change the "skin" of the site? We do not want any of the content to disappear either.

My sentiments exactly.

I guess the fear is the content will take a back seat to flash. If they want to dress up the skin and keep the same content, fine by me, but flash in place of content? I would not like that and too many sites I go by have far more flash than content.
