walshfan
Just looking at the schedule leads me to believe that our defense is going to have it harder than last year... We're going up against allot of gunslingers this year that are on their way up ( Carr, Leftwich, Harrington, Rottenbuger) or have gained status as top notch QB's ( Culpepper, Favre, Green, Manning and McNair) ...Allot of MAD BOMBERS on the schedule...Our secondary is going to be tested by the long pass severely this season..The offense looks to have it easier.....Last season we played a top ten defense every week with Palmer learning the ropes and our offensive line not healthy.Looks like the scores will be up somewhat from last year based on this... Stripes
It's going to be so great to have Madieu this year, and the new linebackers. While Pollack and Thurman are clogging the holes against the run, Madieu can actually drop back and cover with the corners (he's as good as they are). Last year he always had to step up in the box to help stop the run, and it put a lot of pressure on Tory and Deltha. Having Ratliff will be great for the same reason. Lets hope Olahete and Mitchell can do their jobs at strong safety to keep us from getting burned on post routes.
The_Next_Big_Thing
At least we get Boller at QB twice each year to make up for all those gunslingers this year. With any luck, he will be so bad the good defense won't help.We also get the revolving door at QB for Chicago, although their defense is stout.Favre is great, don't get me wrong, but I think we will get some turnovers from him. He makes a lot of mistakes. He just knows how to overcome them better than Carson did last year.

I actually disagree on Favre overcoming turnovers - he usually starts pressing more, and throwing more interceptions. I seem to recall a 6-INT game in the playoffs. kingwilly
The only offenses on our schedule I am cautious about are Min, Indy and KC. Pit, Jax and GB, not so much. The rest are stinkers, no matter the QB.Brett is cooked, I think. His O-line was raided in FA and the replacements won't keep him from being hit early and often.I also think McNair is cooked. Lack of WR's and penchant to get banged up lead me to believe this may be his last season...Big Ben(d over) will come crashing to earth. No Plax+No Bus+No Staley= 6 wins.Losman and Boller are just plain bad. Harrington is on very thin ice but has weapons, is he smart enough to use them?Leftwich could be ok if Fred Taylor can stay healthy. Fun Sun night game!I see us winning 9-11 games. BTW, no way we lose to MIN at home but we could lose the opener to CLE...

He's still capable of torching any team, but he doesn't have the arm he thinks he does - it's not enough to bail him out of all the crazy crap he does anymore. As such, the best way to beat him is to get him to beat himself. With that defense he has, he'll try to do too much and I think he can be coaxed into making a lot of mistakes.

He does have a big arm, this year we'll see how well he uses it.
OrangeStripes
I agree to disagree... i dont think he is any better than palmer because of the fact that Roethlisberger has good protection, good backs to help protect, and has great wide outs (just from my perspective). HoosierCat
Just looking at the schedule leads me to believe that our defense is going to have it harder than last year...Tough for me to agree. As of right now, only 3, count 'em, 3 teams we face have an offense ranked in the top half of the league: Pitt, Indy and KC (that's ranked by scoring offense; ranked by total offense it's just Pitt and KC). That may change but right now the vast majority of our games look to be against average-to-poor offenses. I think that bodes well for our D.
