CBin2k7 Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Just read an article on ESPN that speaks about the Bengals and how they have drafted very well since Marvin Lewis came to town and that they are one of the best teams in developing their own players. It says nobody has acquired more talent than the Bengals have in the last few years. It is very similar to the success that the Pats are having. It says as soon as the talent develops the Bengals will be competing reguarly for AFC North titles. it's an insider article, don't really know the rules about providing links or posting quotes. BengalszoneBilly Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 it's an insider article, don't really know the rules about providing links or posting quotes. You can basically tell us what it said translated into your words, (kinda like you've done already) but I wouldn't copy/paste more than a sentence or to directly. Links won't work unless you're already a subscriber. Quote
CBin2k7 Posted September 2, 2005 Author Report Posted September 2, 2005 Thanks,The article was from a guy who was a scout for 10 years. An AFC player personnel director says the Bengals are not on the level of the Ravens or Steelers yet, but in a few years they will be and may even surpass them. Also speaks highly of the coaching staff in their ability to develop players. On the other end of the spectrum was the Rams who haven't developed a quality starter in 4 years. All in all, I am very excited about the future of this team, and their ability to compete long term, by developing their own draft picks. You have to draft well consistently, and you have to know when to let players go. With regard to the last half of that, we'll see what happens when certain aging Bengals with degenerative chronic injuries come up for free agency. Quote

WorldBFree Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 I wouldn't use the "D" word quite yet, especially with the state of the... uh... D.There have been some personell gaffes, specifically getting rid of Foley and Thompson, but not every move is going to look good in hindsight. Safety is an issue that is going to take at least another year to solve, then there are the upcoming free agents on the offensive line to worry about. Marvin and company aren't out of the woods yet.
