San Antonio Bengal
While our city is filling up with refugees from the New Orleans area, it looks like we're also going to get the Saints for a little while at least. The Saints will come here to practice, and they might play some regular season games here as well. No decision has been made with respect to the regular season yet, but most signs we're getting down here point to San Antonio being the first option. Of course, things are subject to change given the situation. It seems that every little while you hear speculation down here about the Saints moving to San Antonio, but no one wanted it to be under such circumstances. Anyway, we've got some Louisiana guests to take care of at the moment and they are much more important than a football team any day.

My grandparents live near San Antonio, and I'm curious, what NFL team is predominantly followed there? The Cowboys, Texans, Saints, or a mixture of all of 'em? San Antonio Bengal
The Cowboys, first and foremost, but the Texans are getting some roots planted here. Those who were Oilers fans back in the day are gradually shifting to the Texans. I'd say that we get a little more Cowboys coverage in the media, but it's not by much over the Texans. The only time people here are interested in the Saints is when 1.) they're playing the Cowboys, 2.) they're playing the Texans or 3.) when yet another rumor comes up about the Saints moving here. thefrazz
The name "San Antonio Saints" makes as much sense as the Utah Jazz or the Tennessee Oilers. They would have to change the name if permanent. However, I think it will just be for this year. However, the Saints leaving, even if just momentarily, has to boost moral in New Orleans.... The_Next_Big_Thing
I heard LA was still looking for a team, and they had a stadium collecting dust.... (until the next earthquake)

San Antonio Bengal
Whenever we hear the Saints rumors, it's always San Antonio and Los Angeles that are mentioned. LA has a stadium collecting dust and San Antonio has a football stadium that has never been used for a professional football game. There was a time when Red McCombs was practically giving the Vikings to San Antonio, but our beloved city government let the opportunity just go on by. BengalNation1281
San Antonio Vikings makes about as much sense as San Antonio Saints.I think that if they end up in SA permanently, they need to have a name that would fit for the fanbase in that area, so I propose that they call it the "San Antonio Not the Cowboys." Like I mentioned in the other thread, the Saints will play no games in New Orleans this season per Paul Tagliabue.Anyway, we've got some Louisiana guests to take care of at the moment and they are much more important than a football team any day. You're absolutely right. As much as I love the game of football, it's importance ranks way below that of caring for the hurricanes refugees.

San Antonio Bengal
I was thinking specifically of an NFL team. We never had XFL (thank goodness). I'm not certain about the other leagues, but I know that we haven't had any form of a local football team in the past several years, or at least as long as I've been here. BengalNation1281
There was a USFL team back in the '80s, but that is the closest that San Antonio has come to having a legitimate pro football team.

redsfan2
Was watching NFL Live this afternoon, and they reported that the Superdome will have to be completely torn down and then rebuilt from scratch. Only this time they're going to make sure to " rebuild it stronger to make sure our people have a place to go. " Draw your own conclusions. ArmyBengal
When I was stationed here from 94-97 and there was one season of the CFL and the team was the "San Antonio Texans". They sucked BAD, but I recall seeing one game (for free) and seeing this guy go after a ball and fall about 30 feet, breaking both legs... OUCH !!!Anyway, I can't see an NFL team doing any better in San Antonio to tell you the truth, although it would be an opportunity to see the Bengals play next year as the Saints are on the schedule !!! Another name for the team could be the "San Antonio Illegal Aliens"... WHODEY !!!
