El Tigere Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Should we Sign Simon or use that cap room to try and sign our own free agents next year like Willie Anderson, Levy Jones, Eric Steignbach........... ectI personally would start by extending Big willy's contract. Stacy Andrews looked terrible last week against the eagles. You need a young guy like Levy and Eric to hold your offense for many years to come. Although it would be nice to have Simon I just don't see us paying that much for one player and letting some of the other guys leave next year. Quote
The Big Orange Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 I know people don't like to think about this, but the kind of procedure Willie has had on his knee, he is less likely to fully come back...I would rather see some mid season movement on Steinbach or Levi. It would also be nice to deal with Chad before the season is over so it isn't a huge deal during the off season like I'm sure Drew is hoping it will be.I think Hannibal and Ohalete is about all you're going to see this year, unless a quality DT comes around for the minimum. BlackJesus Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 Uh... we have 6.5 million under the cap and none of our OL are up for 2 more seasons....Chad has no leverage...And we WILL SIGN SIMON IN THE NEXT WEEK !!! Quote
oldschooler Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 The Bengals are about $6.5 million under the capright now. I think they could go after Simon andtry to extend some of their YOUNGER players contracts mid season.I think the Bengals are WANTING to replace Williewith Stacy Andrews one day though...Another player whose name has been whispered in the Bengals' locker room for two days is Corey Simon. The Eagles cut the defensive tackle Sunday when they revoked the franchise tag. The Ravens, like the Bengals, had been talking trade with Philadelphia before Simon's release. Miami and Baltimore are chief suitors, but the Bengals have a little more cash to spend now.The Bengals are an estimated $6.5 million under the salary cap, so they have money to spend.http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art.../508310319/1066 Quote
bengalsLB Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 if they cut big willy i will be furious there is no way he will not retire a bengal Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 The Bengals will eventually use the space to extend one or two current players later this year. Exactly who depends on how they look (does Willie's knee hold up, does Justin play better on the other side, etc.). Quote

Exactly who depends on how they look (does Willie's knee hold up, does Justin play better on the other side, etc.). Agreed, agreed, and agreed. I don't expect the Bengals to be serious in Simon negotiations, and I'd be glad if they aren't. Save this extra space to pay our current guys quietly and away from media spotlight. Quote

Simon may or may not be the answer, but we still have a major question at DT!Look at what's the DT rotation now. Robinson (who's over 30), Thornton (who's a penetrator - read 'Quick' Tackle, not 'Strong' tackle), and Askew (unproven and a little disappointing). Everyone else is an LDE faking the tackle position.Chuck is going to lobby hard for a tackle to keep the interior OL away from his prize LB's. Marvin will listen. Mikey will ask to check the waiver wires for someone that will give him more bang for his buck, but it might turn out that Simon is the best option.Let's win today, and restock tomorrow! Quote

Stripes Posted August 31, 2005 Report Posted August 31, 2005 langston mooreI rest my case I've heard so much negative on Moore this offseason, but didn't he show some flashes of brilliance late last season? I remember him getting hyped up on the radio for the Giants game especially. I'm not trying to side with or against him, just confirming that blurred memory. Quote

Yes, he did an admirable, but not great job, in his rookie year as a starter late in the season. Quote
