schnarfer Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 It finally happened and now we must address our problems on defense. It looks like we will address a defensive free gent. Quote
Bengals4Me Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I've got to admit that I'm shocked, even with all the speculation. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Stupid move if he's healthy. Quote
BlainThePain Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I hope he goes on and has a great season. I'm not saying this because I am pissed at the organization either. I am just a PDub fan and will remain one no matter who he plays for, though I wouldn't be as big of a fan if he went to the Ratbirds. Quote
The Brew Man Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Stupid move if he's healthy. I think its obvious hes not healthy if he cannot practice on back to back days. I hope this leads to a Simon move, though I doubt it will. Hard to see PW go, but you could see this a mile away......dating back to the early offseason. Quote
skyline Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Best of luck to him. No hard feelings towards him or the team here. Quote
walzav29 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 It is strong evidence that they are trying to make a Simon run, which we definitely need. He was a coulda woluda guy. Overall he's average at best. How many non Marvin draftee's are left?J. SmithB. SimmonsK. KaesvaharnC. JohnsonW. AndersonL. JonesR. BrahamThere are a few others, but not for long. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 It is strong evidence that they are trying to make a Simon run, which we definitely need. We shall see. I doubt it very much. More likely we are looking to pick up a safety. Quote
LesterLyles Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Who returns your punts now? TJ? If warric comes cheap, do you think he is worth it as a PR and maybe 4th WR? Just asking b/c Jets are getting a bit deparate at the PR position and they can always use some depth at WR, especially w/ Chrebet's concussion issues. Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 It is strong evidence that they are trying to make a Simon run, which we definitely need. If they were cutting a guy whose health was no longer a question I'd agree with you, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Warricks health was a huge concern long before and right up to the moment the Eagles removed the tag from Simon. As for Pete, good luck and thanks for the fish. Quote

More likely we are looking to pick up a safety. Yup. Tho it seems unlikely they'd need that much space to sign someone like Olahete or Reid.Rather odd timing, IMHO...but then very little about the whole Warrick saga has made much sense. I think they'll look to Chris Perry and Matt Schobel to fill Warrick's role in the red zone. I also think Peter will do well elsewhere. Best of luck. Quote

Warrick is a vested vet. If cut he doesn't go on waivers, he's a UFA.I'm sure they wouldn't like it if he went to Pitt or Balti...but what does that suggest about his health if that's actually a worry they have...? Quote
bengalskyspy Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I wont miss his mouth. He should have listened to ML when he said "just do your job." I do wish him luck though. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 The only other Simon related thing that I found weird was how soon they cut both Greg Scott and Elton Patterson as well, that was a slightly curious move, at least Patterson was.And as mentioned above another scenario to consider is re-signing Warrick at a smaller price if he's willing to come back here before he goes elsewhere, dunno.I just don't agree with letting him go just to save $ if indeed he is as healthy as he says he is, unless there is a reason for them doing so beyond that.Who the hell knows this whole situation is just weird. walzav29 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Go the NFL.com and listen to Adam Shefter. He names the Bengals twice as a team interested in Simon. Quote

I think they'll look to Chris Perry and Matt Schobel to fill Warrick's role in the red zone. I also think Peter will do well elsewhere. Best of luck. Random thoughts... Cap space - The last cuts are coming, a period when the team has traditionally signed one or two players cast off by opposing teams. So it's not a bad time to free up some space under any circumstance because this team still has several areas that could be helped. Ignoring the need for additional safety help right now, anyone who has watched other teams preseason play probably has their eye on several players who might be released soon. Plus, there's Corey Simon to consider because I didn't quite understand Hobson's point about the Bengals wanting to be involved, but only as an interested bystander. Timing - See above. Then factor in the idea that Warrick's situation was always driven by more than the need to see him reach a certain level of health and conditioning. The long-term prognosis was always going to be more difficult than determining when he was healthy enough to practice on any given day. The future of P-Dub - How Warrick does in the distant future is less interesting to me than how he does in the immediate future as I've always believed that, healthy or not, this was Warrick's last season in stripes. So I'll be tweaked if he lands somewhere else and performs consistently from the word GO. Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 It's official...http://www.bengals.com/press/news.asp?iCur...=0&news_id=3115Terrell Roberts, Kyle Takavitz also cut. Quote
kingwilly Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I agree with the take that he's not healthy. If he can't practice on back to back days, there is not much hope, now 10+ months of re-hab later. Poor guy is damaged at this point. Best of luck P-Dub. I see him going to one of these:I look to see Washington and Henry step up and play a bigger role with the starters. They have to feel good about Walter and his performance so far as well.I suppose Ratliff will return punts or Deltha. I would not mind giving Perry a crack at some punt returns. The $ impact of the P-Dub release does indicate they are more serious than I thought about making a run at Simon...still doubt he lands here. HairOnFire Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I wonder what Peter King will think about the decision to cut Warrick. Quote
jjakq27 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I had hoped they would put him on the PUP list along with Webster to give him the most opportunity to recover. I also think there was a difference of opinion between the team and Warrick on his status. I think that PDub believed that he could play in the games with minimal practice while the team expected him to practice everyday just like everyone else. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets picked up and plays this year without practicing much.I always liked the guy even back in the Ron Dugans era. I will always remember how he won the KC game in 2003 with the punt return and the TD catch. It was neat to see a Bengal live up to some of the expectations and flash like he had in college.I wonder if the team will start playing better now that this situation has been resolved. ML even admitted that the team played better and people stepped up after the team shelved him last year. It could be one giant distraction that we don't know about. Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I find it very hard to buy into the idea that Warrick wasn't heathy.Out of football shape due to the long layoff, yes. But if there was anything significantly wrong with him, that would have been clear before they activated him -- and if there were any real chance of his knee blowing up again, he never would have been cleared to practice.Like Hair, if he goes and contributes someplace else this year (and I think there's a good chance of that) I will be annoyed, especially if Chad and TJ go into the regular season still struggling with cases of the "dropsies."As for what they'll use the money for...sorry but I still don't see Simon in stripes. My bet is that some of it will be used to secure the services of a vet safety (probably Olahete) and the rest will be held aside as a cushion in case they have to sign more guys due to injury over the course of the year. Quote
richmond_mat Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 Why is everyone in love with Warrick? He has never met expectations nor earned the 40 million he has been paid. Hopefully this will be the last of the underperforming first round busts that have plagued the organization since the great Paul Brown departed. :player: Quote
bengalsrz Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 i still like him and hope for him to be successful wherever he goes Quote
