Lack of socks in college football

Showing my ignorance here, but could someone explain why players in college football do not wear socks, but in the NFL they do?

I may be mistaken, but I'm sure college players DO wear socks. They'd be insane not to. I can't imagine the gross athletes foot and fungi that would result from a full of football game of shoe-to-foot contact.

indeed so - a small foot sock would be worn, I just wondered why the leg between the ankle and the knee was bare?

i think it may have to do with the nfl dress code, and the nfl fining people if they arent dressed to code, college, i think there is one, but its much more lack and is put in place by the university.
