still a year away folks...

Well, the way they're playing right now, they're not a year away, they're an eternity away.

But it is not an unrecoverable situation. Yet.

Hey Joisey, what's the view like from both sides of the fence?

Same as it ever was: 8-8. Which is precisely where Marvin suggested they were headed in his comments yesterday if they don't pull their heads out of their a**es.

Another .500 record was always a possibility. So is the idea they can improve by by a modest one or two games and become a playoff contender. Philly changed none of that.

I guess this "head-in-the-sand" rant is starting to grind on me. People are absolutely correct to point out that we're all reacting to a meltdown in a preseason game. To put it bluntly, this team isn't doomed because of what happened in a fake game. To be fair, being concerned about some of the things we've seen is all well and good, but most of us are level headed enough to know that they can recover from it. Between your own panic attacks you've said as much. ;)

And there's the rub because IF they can recover from it then nobody has their head in the sand when they point out that it's only a preseason game.

Last, I love Marvin's toght talk as much as the next guy, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Marvin reacted to the Philly game by stating that it was only a preseason game, the team isn't as good or bad as observers seem to think, and his opinion and expectations for his team haven't changed.

Well, I'm afraid I can't control what does or doesn't grind on you. However, it is quite clear from Marvin's comments that the "it's only preseason" rant is grinding on him. And I'm fine with that.

Bengals are 1-2!!! in the preseason and the colts are 0-4 OMFG! were both screwed!!!!

"Orders a tom brady jersey"

:player: ^_^ :player:

Lets not compare the Bengals to the Colts or Patriots...

They go to the playoffs ...we havent

Forget the won/lost record...

Look at the way the starters are playing....

They say " dont worry" they'll turn it on when the season starts.

Why havent they "turned it on up to now?"

This team isnt properly coached.. Im not blaming Marvin but some of the coaches on this team are not getting it done.. all that butt slapping isnt working..

Get in their face if need be...

why does this team look miserable on fundementals?

I see a team thats lethargic up to now... Its the coaches responsibility to get that changed and fast......

Yeah, I'm fine with it too. Mostly because he hasn't gone off the deepest of ends.

That said, he's made his own comments about "it's only preseason" and the only difference between his remarks and those that appear on this board are due to the fact that he's in a position to follow up his version of "head in the sand" stuff with tough talk and real action.

Nobody has their head in the sand....unless that's where it landed when they lost it following the Eagle game. (My own is firmly attached.)

add the Jets to the non-playoff list> We lost 15-14 the other night and all of a sudden, after Pennington an't play in thsi league (he was the next Montana just a week ago).

One thting about pre-season is that all the schemes are plain vanilla. You sometimes get an offense who wants to try something wild and the D just isn't ready for it. Thatis what happened w/ the Owns pass. Reid wanted to do something right off the bat and the Bengals weren't ready. They will be for the season. As for Penny, one of his INTS was to Strahan who dropped back in coverage. DE dropping in coverage in the pre-season? Hey Penny wasn't ready for it. He will be.

Quick question: who here really thinks that TO would have been single covered if that were a regular season game?

It wasn't single coverage. It was badly executed cover-2. The corner, Deltha O'Neil, didn't bother jamming TO or redirecting him towards the inside where the safety was supposed to pick him up. That left the safety out of position and Herring compounded the error by taking a poor angle. We've seen that sort of thing before, most notably on the 99 yard bomb that Cleveland scored on last season.

Not to nitpick a topic from another thread, but Peter King's criticism about the Bengals attempting to cover TO with a safety kinda ignores the fact that he can't recognize cover-2 when he sees it. To be fair lots of people wouldn't, but they're not paid by magazines and television networks for their insight and analysis.

And thats what I get for putting stock in a Peter King article...

Thank you. So funny how these fools are acting like everything that looks terrible doesnt matter because its preseason. Our record doesnt matter, but the fact that the team looks terrible does matter. Dont kid yourself.

Chris Perry looked like crap against the Eagles. Couldn't gain a yard rushing, flat out dropped one of the easiest balls of the night, and couldn't make another grab because he misjudged the ball. Got a nice long look during much of the game and was terrible on all but one or two plays.

Wanna make an excuse for him? Wanna tell me his performance didn't matter? Wanna tell me it was only preseason and he'll get better? Well you can't because you wrote the stupid post that appears above.

Don't kid yourself.

Ok now you are just looking for arguments. You really need to get over me dude. I didnt even mention Perry in this thread. And I havent made one excuse for him after that game. He had a bad game, so did the rest of the team. He had a few good plays, but besides that he sucked. Why would I deny that? Im the most fair and unbias poster on this forum.

Maybe you just wanted to hear me say it? I dunno you are getting really desperate man.

Yeah, I kinda did.

But mostly I wanted to point out that your attack on the team as a whole applies to your favorite player as well. And here's the rub. Your posting history seems to imply that you think Perry has a bright future this year. So has that lofty opinion changed in response to Perry's poor outing against the Eagles?

If it hasn't your likely response is going to be something along the lines of...it's just one game. Or maybe you shrug and say something about how it was only a preseason game. Which would put you squarely in the rather large camp of posters that you claimed had buried their heads in the sand.

But hey, I don't want to write your response for you. Maybe you'll come up with a fresh explanation for Perry's sucky play. Just don't try blaming his failure on the entire team because Perry was dropping catchable balls all by himself.

Or who knows, maybe you'll surprise me and write that you've completely changed your opinion about Perry. (Again.)

I dont feel motivated to join this arguement with you, its just a bit too weak, I've said what needs to be said. But I do need to set you straight, when you constantly say I used to think perry was a bad pick.

There are my posts regaurding the Perry pick, and if you check the times and dates its RIGHT after the pick. I'm now done discussing this because I think ive already stooped to your level enough by playing your old post game.

Also, you can view this post that was right around there to show me being right (as usual) about a player.

Read my posts about Kevin Jones. This was before the pick was made, I know I was wrong that Jones wasnt our pick, but I bet most of you wish he was.

Your motivation is a funny thing. This thread was cold and dead before you bumped it with a very weak "you're stalking me" rant. Now you claim you don't want to play?

Pushy, think before you post. I'm not going to stalk you, but I'm also not going to ignore you. So if you don't want to continue playing a game that you started you'll need to learn how to restrain yourself. And a good test of this will be how you respond to this post.

My advice? Hush.

 Nice job avoiding responding to my proof that your claim that I thought Perry was a bad pick was false. I'm sure I could easily prove more of what you say wrong if I felt like it, but you arent worth the time.

Proof? You said it was a wasted pick that made so little sense the Bengals would have been better off had they skipped it. Frankly, those are your own words and I don't have to defend them. And the fact that you've completely changed your mind about the pick doesn't have a thing to do with my credibility.

That said, didja read the article about Perry simply wanting to get this season over because he fears he won't be healthy until the start of next season? Those were his words...not mine. However, I am the guy who said it was stupid to assume that Perry could be counted on to be this teams starting RB this season. You're the guy that said, well....we all know what you said.

Wanna change your opinion? (Again.)

Or maybe you'd just like to drop the whole thing like you keep claiming. But you can't do that, can you?

Hard to drop it because its fun making you get all upset about it.

Read the posts I linked to, they were posted within 30 mins of the pick being made. I see nothing where I said perry was a wasted pick, I may of been talking about someone else in saying that, or I might of just been trieng to anger someone, but I dont see the posts, or remember ever feeling that way. Man, talking to you is like talking to pre schoolers.
