walshfan Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 If I had to lay odds on it I would guess that the team that is most likely to sign Corey Simon is Baltimore. Oh dont ever count the Washington Redskins out of the pciture.. Daniel Snyder loves to throw money around..... Quote
BlackJesus Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 finding a Pro Bowl DT that avgs 7 sacks a year, and dominates the run Game is as rare as a virgin a$$ hole in a Prison shower....they don't last long....pay the man Quote
Kazkal Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 screw simon were drafting ngata next year Quote
HairOnFire Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 I should wait a day or two to see if they're even interesed, but.... Talk to him. He wanted to break bank earlier but I'm not sure that's possible now. If there's interest on both sides and the Bengals appear to be a player in the coming derby they can create cap room by renegotiating one or two of the deals they're already interested in extending. Quote
BlainThePain Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 If Simon comes down on his asking price he will resign with the Eagles. The only way we will get him is if we over pay for him and ruin our cap for the next five years. No thanks. Quote
BlackJesus Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Take a Sig add on if you'd like Quote
bengalindian Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 If Corey's 99, then what number would Pollack be? Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 so if they sign Simon, who hits the bench? Thornton or Robinson? I can't see this happening at all. Quote
InsultComicDog Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Simon was #90 on the Eagles. Quote
StripesNTn Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Our DTs have played solidly so far in the preseason, 3-4 sacks between them in limited play, Robinson has been stuffing the middle, Thornton has done better in his new spot. No, our more pressing need is a strong safty. Madieu we need you! Quote

The only way we will get him is if we over pay for him and ruin our cap for the next five years. No thanks. The Eagles no longer have interest, they have moved on. They really only wanted to keep Simon for the year, they drafted a DT in the first round and wanted to keep Simon around for the transition. But now they would just as soon move on without him. Quote

It requires no special (specific) physical skills, just general athleticism and toughness. The only issue is how fast can he develop. Quote
walzav29 Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 If they were in trade talks I can't see why they wouldn't even talk to him. I say they should try to get him. Baltimore is going to be tough enough without him. With him it could get ugly. Quote
ckj414 Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Corey Simon is solid...but he's a super star in his own mind. Stay away guys, stay away... Quote
Spain Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Proffotball Talk is reporting that The Birds are not interestde we should jump on this guy he would make our d line dominate! Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 We better and I think we will talk to him. I donn't care what John Thorton says he has no idea what the team wants to do. He thinks the DT's are fine but according to my knowledge they have given up several runs worth 10+ yards. Talk to him, he is an immediate upgrade Quote
DontPushMe Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 “I don’t think it would be an upgrade. I’m sure he might think so, but just by our system, I think we do pretty well,” Thornton said. “We have four or five good (tackles). That’s what the Eagles did. They have five good players. They might not be better than him, but they’ve got guys they can win with, so they keep their $5 million. He’s going to get paid. He’ll go somewhere and get paid. I doubt it’s here.” Translation: "I really hope they don't sign Simon because if they do I'll be benched or cut for sure, and no other team will overpay for someone with my lack of talent like the bengals did."Honestly i dont think Simon is a great player, but hes better than Thornton and Robinson. If we had a trade worked out with them to get Simon I see no reason why they wouldnt bring him in and try and sign him. At this point of the offseason hes not going to find a team that can pay huge cash this year for him anyway. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 HAHA I agree with you tottally DontPushME. That is excatly what Throton is saying ahahah Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 Eagles grant Simon unrestricted free agencyAugust 29Philadelphia Inquirer (registration required): "The Eagles stopped waiting for Corey Simon to sign his franchise-tag tender last night and set him free to find a new football home... Two potential landing spots for Simon, 28, are Baltimore and Cincinnati." Quote
InsultComicDog Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 On the other hand, how much does Corey Simon improve the Bengals chances of becoming a Super Bowl team? I just don't see him as making enough of a difference. I think if you look at what teams like the Pats and Eagles have done to build up their defenses, they don't typically reach for an expensive free agent. The Eagles signed Jevon Kearse, but that was the exception and for an exceptional player. This is the time of year that teams cast off players that they would like to develop on their practice squads, and veterans that they hope to sign after week one so they don't have to guarantee their salaries for the entire year. There are always - and I mean always - good players and prospects available for nothing at this time of year. The trick is figuring out who they are and knowing how to develop them, and the catch is that they take up spots on the roster even though they aren't quite ready to help out yet. But never does a year go by that there aren't several of them to be had. Quote
schnarfer Posted August 29, 2005 Author Report Posted August 29, 2005 The addition of Corey Simon does bring a huge inside force to us if we got him but bigger than that it brings creditability to our system...We have had our hands on several free agents only to lose them to bigger name organizations. This would give us alot of street credibility Quote
