rizzy
AGAIN I WILL SAYYeah we looked bad out there oh well it is pre season. If we look like this when we play the browns sept. 11th then I might start to worry. NO NEED TO WORRY NOW IT IS ALL MEANINGLESS UNTIL SEPT 11TH!!! ackley1
not happy about the performance of course but not panicking yet.
eclipse99t
I didn't see the entire game, but it looked like Palmer was playing better than he did last game. He underthrew/overthrew 2 passes or so, but other than that, he would have had a great (numerical) game if the receivers could catch the damn ball. ackley1
i didn't see the game nor do i want to see it. i'll probably watch it when it comes on ndl network though.
schnarfer
We dominated the superbowl champs last preseason...it does not mean anything to be beatup in a preseason game..we are a second half team and it will all pan out..The Bengals are too talented to lose and truthfully the entire Afc North does not look that great this preseason..There is not much offense as of yet and we are good enough to put up serious numbers....We will be in the playoffs and we will win the division..Start to worry if we go 0-
ackley1
that's what i keep telling everyone.
walshfan
Well on one thread you say our defensive line just got dominated and now your saying its just a preseason game.. which is it???I see this all the time in threads.. pointing out that this player or that player had a bad game but its just preseason then turning right around and saying that this player had a great game and rifle off his stats in these meaningless games..it cant be both ways.......Truth of the matter is it is a preseason game so schemes are not complicated. On the flip side you cant tell me that everyone out there isn't trying his best to make good of himself...we got toasted tonight because we don't have a good defense....a few good players and the rest mediocre....if this offense doesn't score allot of points we wont finish any better than .
skyline
Why do people get upset or overly happy about the preseason every single year?? Do they never learn?? ARGH!!Chill out. Save the worry for when it counts.
schnarfer
our D-line has been suspect for the past 5 years..that's FACT, our team is loaded with offensive talent but on defense you have to have the horse to win the race. We will be in shootouts but we are all around good enough to be a serious competitor..we need help in the trenches.a presence like Corey Simon would do nothing but help our D-line
Stripes
This was an embarassing game, but nobody should be panicking. The offense needs much improved play from the line, and when Willie gets back, that will happen. I'm certain Palmer would have better numbers if he didn't have defenders in his face on every play. Then again, we've played three elite defenses so far this preseason, so next week against a poor unit (Colts), we can have a better gauge of how the offense will look this year, if the starters play long enough to to do so. Stripes
I don't understand the issues people are having with the D-line. The pass rush looks great, and they're stopping the run. Last season, the D-line did WELL to stop the run, except in games againt Bettis and Chester Taylor. The problem has been (as Marvin has said time and time again) that we overpursue and give up big gains on the perimeter. That is a tendency of fast defenses, and that's why Madieu had so many tackles last year. I don't think adding Corey Simon would be nearly enough of a boost to make it worth the price. We have much bigger problems at strong safety. Hopefull H.D. Jones keeps playing well and can give us hope.
ShulaSteakhouse
Mediocre defense that relies on turnovers and an incredibly overrated 0-line = 8-8 again?Lots of penalties, and the Andrews/Levi scenario is terrible.Come back Willie.... If the defense is again a turnover reliant pushover, then I agree with you. The Bengals would be no more than a poor man's Colts. That said, I think enough improvements have been made to keep us above the .500 mark.
BlainThePain
I know we have looked like s**t so far. Some might even goes as far and say we look like the Browns. Just remember that its the preseason and it doesn't prove much. Last preseason it looked like we had a top 5 defense and look at what happened during the season. I'm not expecting us to have a shutdown defense and you shouldn't either. One thing I will tell you is that this defense will be better than last years, but it still won't live up to what you want because we are young on defense. As the season progresses we will start to come along and things will come together. On the offensive side its just little things going wrong that will come together by the beginning of the season. Andrews finally had his first bad game. You put Willie in instead of Stacy and we have four less penalties and one less sack. Palmer is still off on his throws, but its starting to come together for him and he improved on his throws even with all of that pressure in his face. Our receivers have been dropping passes that they don't drop during the season. People are questioning Housh's heart since he got paid, but I think he still has tons of heart. He is just rusty and has had a bad stretch of games. I'm telling you that they will both be ready by Cleveland and I predict Housh to have 1200 yards this season. This offense will be twice as good as last years. Carson is coming into the season with a whole season of starting experience under his belt now, our offensive line is that healthiest its been since Carson's been here, we are deeper at offensive line with Ghiaciuc and a more seasoned Andrews and Kooistra, Schobel is actually starting to block, Jeremi Johnson looks quick, and we have a new X-Factor who is blowing every one of our minds in Chris Perry. Lets not forget that we have a lot of starters set in stone. When a player is guaranteed their starting position like most of our offense is, they won't try as hard in the preseason as somebody fighting for playing time. We've improved at QB, RB, OLine, DLine, LB, and nothing has gotten worse from last year. Our schedule isn't any hard than last years. We are also healthier and deeper than last year. We won't know whether to panic or not until the Browns game.

He underthrew/overthrew 2 passes or so, but other than that, he would have had a great (numerical) game if the receivers could catch the damn ball. I agree with this assessment, and that was one of the things I've been watching for - isn't this the first game he hasn't thrown an interception? His passes seemed to be more catchable as well. I am definitely worried about the receivers not catching passes, however. When your running back looks like a better receiver than your supposedly top five receiver, there is a lot of work to do. It did look as if Palmer was throwing to other receivers than Chad, which is an improvement over the first two games.

The problem has been .. that we overpursue and give up big gains on the perimeter. That is a tendency of fast defenses. This is absolutely correct! We have had more problems on defense this preseason with giving up big passing plays than running plays. This was the case last year, too! We also have more problems stopping the other team's plays that are actually broken by our initial defense and cause the other team to scramble around for a few seconds before completing the big play. Our speed and resulting overpursuit seems to be a major problem. This problem will only be solved when our relatively young defense starts to really understand the game and adjust to the broken plays. bengalskyspy
Look, there a tons of things to be positive about going into this season. #1 Chris Perry is really an awesome weapon, so all the bitching about wasting a pick should STFU.#2 Pollack is a fast beast, even if Donovan McNabb brushed him off like a first grade girl.#4 Chris Henry is cool.#5 Bryan Robinson looks legit.#6 Stacy Andrews will get there eventually.#7 Chad can get open anytime he wants.#8 Madeau will come back a be great.#9 TJ will awake from his summer nap.#10 Carson will realize that John Kitna could become the starter if he doesn't get it going.
