bengalboomer7
You know, sometimes the torment of the Bengals past really shows up. Two presseason games and one for Warrick and we've got threads naming Chris Perry the starter and on one reverse we have Peter Warrick getting cut And I thought I had nothing to do
JPW
his knees are shot and he can not be counted on to give us a full seasons worth of play. That has not been proven yet. Well, IMO it has been. If I could dig up the thread from last year around this time (Insiders), I said we should have cut him then because he would not contribute this (last) year due to his knee. We kept him and look what happened. Nothing. We did fine last year without him and we will be fine this year without him.Actually ...Warrick did contribute in the first two games last year and when he did go out it was not due to his knee.He didn't play at all in the '04 preseason until the fourth game, as he rehabbed him knee from the injury he suffered late in '03.When the regular season started he played in the opener against the Jets and in the win over Miami in the second game.Warrick played very well for us in those two games to start the season last year. But he suffered a small shin fracture in the game against the Jets, and when he aggravated that injury early in the third game against Baltimore, it effectively sidelined him for the rest of the season.Warrick has been back practicing with the team for less than a week and he only had like two touches in last night's game.It is way too early to count him out ...A healthy Warrick means too much to this team to just write him off this early.... JPW
When all is said and done our 6 wideouts will be Chad, TJ, Warrick, Squirrel (K-wash), Chipmunk (K-walt), and Henry. Tab Perry will be cut, clear waivers, and signed to the PS (IIRC, he's nursing a groin injury right now as well as getting little playing time, no one will be in a rush to grab him). These are the same six that I have in mind but who handles punt and kick-off returns ? schweinhart
I recall Warrick getting two looks last night, the reverse where he tripped up after a few yards and the short route where the ball bounced off his hands. Rusty after not playing for nine months? Obviously. Bad knees that make him unable to play professional football? Not by what I saw. If bad knees allow you to turn the corner on an end-around, then we should all be so lucky as to have bad knees. P-Dub showed he's still got moves. None of the other receivers can get better separation out of the slot than a healthy P-Dub or reel off the reverse if it's there. The main factor seems to me to be the salary. If they want to extend Levi, the Bengals will be hard pressed to come up with the cap space unless they cut P-Dub.I want to see more P-Dub Those moves were for real last night. jditty47
i believe they keep 7 receivers. chadtjpwhenrykwashwalterand a return man...russell or perry if hes healthy.
IckeyShuffle
i believe they keep 7 receivers. chadtjpwhenrykwashwalterand a return man...russell or perry if hes healthy. this is precisely what I think because the starting kick-returners were Russell and T. Perry in the NE game with not even another player getting looks. With Tab not playing last night, who was split at KR with Russell? I didn't notice. Warrick, Ratliff and O'Neal can return punts, but it seems that Russell or Tab make this team as a 7th receiver cuz of kickoff returns. Russell made a nice special teams tackle last night as well. It seems like Watson or C. Perry could return kickoffs as well because of their speed and open field running. But if they keep 7 WRs, what other position # will that hurt. OL? DL? TE's? Kazkal
"You can feel a sense of unease bubbling underneath Bengaldom when it comes to Carson Palmer. Relax. OK, he hasn’t looked razor sharp, but what do you want after Friday night’s last two series? He threw it long, short, and ran. ."does this mean walter earned his spot? KiLBurn
If we have to go light on any position to keep 7 recievers, I would suggest that the TE or even QB position would be where I would trim some fat.
Spain
Ive never been a Walter fan because he has butter hands! But the guy looks like he has had a great offseason and fixed the problem! Now we will have to see what he does the rest of the preseason but this guy could very well beat out Washington as or third WR, or be the second te isn the 3 wr , 2 te set. Might be a great fantasy pick up!
KiLBurn
Spain, do they sell crack on the corner in your town? Sometimes, I'd almost prefer you post in Spanish.. I believe TE's are generally in the 240-260 range as far as weight goes. Walters is 210?This guy has no chance of being our #3 receiver. I would put Warrick (who I think is gone) in front of him on the WR depth chart. He is a special teams ace. If half our receivers were to fall off the face of the planet, THEN I would consider putting him in the #4 position.

Spain
That second Te on that scheme seems to be a way to get Walter o n the field they think they have something here! Maybe they figured out how to use a white WR!

If bad knees allow you to turn the corner on an end-around, then we should all be so lucky as to have bad knees. If Warrick gets beat out based on superior play, then so be it. I just find it hard to believe that he is worthless. By my count (CJ, TJ, CH, PW/KW/KW, JB) Broussard is the #7 guy, and he's not beating out a healthy Warrick. He's just too small. And Marvin's not going to cut somebody with the potential explosiveness of Peter Warrick in favor of a #8 wide receiver. And for what it's worth, I find it odd that an player's ability to clear waivers (Tab Perry) should be a factor in whether or not to keep him. If you limit yourself to 6 or 7 receivers you can hardly be sweating about that 8th guy and whether or not somebody will take him. Obviously you want good projects on your practice squad, but you shouldn't let that compromise your picks for the regular squad. There will be other Tab Perry's down the road. Well said and I agree. Warrick will take time to figure out. If he feels good on Sundays and can practice enough to play during the week he should be fine, and worth keeping. If anyone one of CJ/TJ/KW goes down, we'll be happy they decided to keep him around even more I think.
