jerry rice

I say 6...retires midseason. Also, I feel that he should have done the Emmitt thing and retired as a 49er because that's the most respectable thing to do, maybe not for him, but for the fans. But it IS his career and he can do what he wants, it just doesn't make much sense anymore.

Um, no I don't. He should've retired two or three years ago. I think he's just a product of two HOF quarterbacks. He hasn't done s**t since Young retired.

well, any good receiver needs a QB that can get him the ball. how can anyone not think that rice is the greatest receiver ever and one of the best players ever.

i don's think the quaterbacks had anything to do with all of the plays he made after the catch.

One, that's it. And it wasn't great, it was solid. I don't recall any great plays by Rice after the catch. I've seen some where he caught the ball in stride and got lots of YAC cause no one was near him, but that has more to do with the throw than anything he did. I can't deny his work ethic and awareness, but I still don't think he's as great as everyone thinks he is. And I hate him. He's an arrogant prick.

football is a team sport man. no one becomes great on their own. montana or young wouldn't have done nearly as much if they were on a team w/ no line or receivers. look at what steve did in tampa...not much. they played behind a great line and had great receivers...and they were taught by the greatest offensive mind in nfl history.

I regret picking him in my fantasy league. Chads cousin Keyshawn too! <_<

Both busted hard on me!

Product of two HOF quarterbacks ?? The same argument can be made that Montana and Young were the product of the best WR of all time. Someone has to CATCH the balls being thrown at them. I personally can't stand the 49er's and any Bengals fan that CAN, isn't a fan or to young to remember. However, to just dismiss Rice as anything less than the best is craziness plain and simple. WR's just don't go out and put up the numbers he has for as long as he has. He's not what he once was, I admit that, but in his day, he was DOMINANT. T.O. couldn't carry his jock.

I hate like hell to use my 700th post on the 49er's, but oh well...

WHODEY !!!

Ever think those guys (Montana and Young) might not have been as good without Rice? I believe it goes both ways.

I don't think they would have made the HOF if their best receivers were Freddie Solomon or Ty Streets.

Yeah, I don't think you can make the QB-WR argument cause they doth need each other. Personally, I think that Rice has tainted his legacy and I'll remember his Raiders/Broncos  days just as much as I'll remember 23

Yeah? Name one dominant receiver that John Elway had. He made in to five Superbowls without a dominant receiver. Didn't win one til he had a running game though.

I can't believe there's Bengals fans sticking up for Rice. WTF?

i'm just saying he's the best receiver of all time. yeah, i hate what he did to us but that doesn't change the fact that he was one of the best football players ever. even after what he did to us how could you hate someone w/ the work ethic he has, and a guy who justs plays for the love of the game? i mean those guys are hard to come by nowadays.

We could have had him but selected Eddie Brown instead. Played at a small school. Doesn't have world class speed. Etc. Etc.

I always admired the guy from afar. Montana and Bill Walsh are the common characters from the two Super Bowl losses, not Rice.

I hate him because he's an arrogant prick. You should've seen some of his interviews back in his prime. Nothing like TO, but arrogant nontheless.

Then last year, demanding a trade cause he wasn't being used enough. WTF? He's got every record there is to have and he's still bitching about not getting the ball enough?
