The Big Orange Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 TJ? TJ!?! No way...nobody rates him high at all...as I stated in a previous thread he far outplayed Chad in the last 6 or 8 games (as far as yardage)He has got to be the most unassuming guy on the team, unless you think the management overated him by extending his contract...he a really good receiver Quote

Ickey44 Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Most Underrated - Willie Anderson. The man's been one of the best in the business for years and just now got to the Pro Bowl last year. He's been overlooked for a long time because the Bengals sucked. And I'm almost positive that the only way he got in last year is because of an injury to someone. Most Overrated - Tory James. Most of his interceptions last year were just bad throws where he was in the right place at the right time. He's got great hands. That catch in the Broncos game was immaculate. His coverage skills are fading fast however. I don't think he's as good as his stats last year reflect. Quote

HairOnFire Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Over: Kitna - Amazingly, most people consider him to be one of the best backup QB's in the NFL. Well I could write a million words explaining why he isn't, but instead I'll simply point to last seasons critical games against New England and Buffalo. Simply put, if we see Kitna for any length of time this season the Bengals playoff chances are dead. Under: K-Dub - This offseason we all waded through countless posts claiming Washington hasn't produced a thing. The truth is he's produced plenty, and all of those predictions that he'd be cut are going to be declared officially stupid when the final roster is released. (Walterboyz, you know it's coming.)Bonus over: Madieu - I love him and he's rapidly becoming one of the best players on this team. But c'mon, you should hear the way some of you guys talk. Bonus under: Rudi - How can you not be underrated when you break the franchise rushing record, then sign a modest contract, and still show up on lists of most overrated players. Exactly who is overrating the guy? Quote
walshfan Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 overrated -- Peter Warrick even if he's healthy... nuff said!underrated- Kiewan Ratliff this guy is a football player.. He KNOWS the game. Quote

In fairness, many of the Walter contingent is holding his roster spot at the expense of Peter Warrick, who no one has seen on the field yet.If Warrick gets back, then it gets tighter for Walter. Whoa.Under-rated among forum members in this post: Tory James That's surprising to you isn't it, Captain Kirk. I actually believe that he had 2 real good years these last 2 and this year he will either be our 4th, 5th, or 6th best O-linemen this year.I think he has peaked and he will deteriorate quickly...but I could be the dumbest guy on this board......of course, I have excellent competition... I am a little biased. Willie's my favorite Bengal... Quote

ArmyBengal Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Overrated: Tory James-I like Tory, but think he had a lucky year last year. Love what he did and am looking for another solid year from him, but IMHO do not think he's a consistent probowl caliber CB.Underrated: Kyle Larson-I went in another direction with this pick. As a "ROOKIE" punter, he had a heck of a season and not for a long time have I been comfortable with our punters capabilities as I am now. He averaged 42.2 yds a kick, with a long of 66. He placed 21 inside the 20 and had none blocked. He's going to keep us in games in regards to field position and be a stellar player for years to come.WHODEY !!! Quote

derekshank Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 If we are talking national hype, then Chad is under-rated. He is never mentioned in the top 4 or 5 when ESPN is talking about the best WR’s. It’s always Moss, T.O., Harrison, Tory Holt, and Hines Ward. If Chad improves his YAC, he could easily post #1 type numbers this year. When it comes to Bengalszone, these are my opinions on the most over and under-rated.Under - Landon Johnson. Was a stud last year at MLB, and I hear a lot of crying about Pollack being greedy, and hurting our team because he won't be there as our starter. LJ will probably play better than DP possibly could have until mid-season anyway. The guys flat out plays football.Over - (don't hurt me) Carson Palmer. I love the guy. My favorite player, I have his jersey, and a t-shirt from his website... and I expect big things from him. However, the way a lot of fans on this site talk about him, I would have thought he could retire today and enter the hall of fame.Yes he was improved those last 6 games... but he had nowhere to go but up. His first 7 were dreadful. He played well in spots, like at the end of the Ravens game, but the first 3 quarters of that game were the reason we were forced to make a comeback (he threw 200 yards and 3 TD's in the 4th, but only 186 yards, 0 TD's and 1 INT in the first 3 quarters). He also threw 3 INT's in the Cleveland game. The only game last season he didn't throw an INT was against Dallas. He threw only 1 TD. I think both stats are due to the fact that we got a lead (winning 26-3), and could rely on the run rather than throwing it every single down.Is he resilient? Absolutely. He was able to come back and post a decent season despite struggling early, and he played well in the 4th quarter showing he can be clutch, so he's going to be something special. But the problem is that our defense got us behind and forced him to throw it so often. If we can get a lead, and focus on controlling the clock, Palmer’s TD/INT ratio will look good, but that is exactly the problem. I don't think he's ready to carry this team on his back. He can carry the offense (because there is so much talent around him), but if the defense lets us down again, Carson is still just too inexperienced to have to lead a comeback every single game.Wow that was a long post... I guess I was just trying to cover my butt ahead of time from the insults and name-calling that will assuredly ensue after this post. Really, I do love Palmer. Quote
clevelandbengal Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 I cant believe nobody has mentioned Shayne Graham for underrated. He is about as consistent as they come for a kicker but you never hear him talked about as one of the top kickers in the game.As for overrated I would have to say Justin Smith. He had one decent year and has underachieved since. Quote
