Stripes
I'm actually glad to hear this... Landon proved last year to be an impact player, even when out of position... blessing in disguise, let Pollack hold out, and learn later. Gotta love that depth. skyline
Yep, very good move. Let him know that he isn't our Savior and that we'll be just fine with or without him.
Kazkal
or atleast let his agents know so he will start telling them to get his ass signed because he lost his starting postion,I hope david still signs intime to play part time in the preseason games I rather see him make rookie mistakes there then in a real game
Spain
Screw Pollak i hope he cant break the lineup and ends up a bust! Go Landon Im rooting for you!
Stripes
Screw Pollak i hope he cant break the lineup and ends up a bust! Go Landon Im rooting for you! You hope your team's first round draft pick is a bust??? I understand the frustration surrounding him for not getting into camp, but it's happening all over the league. I want Pollack to develop into a double digit sack, pro bowl caliber beast of a player, certainly not to bust.

Sox
I think it's a good move.It may also well develop a rift between between Condon and Pollack, which I'm sure Marvin Lewis realizes.Right about now,Condon is on the phone telling Pollack that it's nothing more than a ploy.I hope Pollack is smart enough to realize it isn't. bengalboomer7
Now whatever leverage Pollack's camp had is gone. I think that him starting was a little bit of the reason he wants more coin. Knowing the kind of personality that he ahs, he is definietly chomping at the bit right now, and the loss of playing time may help him get in cause i seem to remember a quote about him around draft tiem that he couldn't even imagine not palying every down, that he'd go crazy sitting on the bench. Now where's he at :player:
ArmyBengal
I have no issues with this move at all and this very situation with Landon on the outside was discussed here prior to this move. Not at all suprising !!!WHODEY !!!
derekshank
I think more than anything this shows the solid leadership of Marvin Lewis. So many times a team will be held hostage by hold-outs... but Marvin again and again make shis opinion known about hold-outs, and actually acts on that opinion. He has strengthened this team by creating competition at every position, so if a guy doesn't show up, that guy doesn't play. I want Pollack in there, I want to see 99's drive and energy, but the fact is that he's not there.Marvin let it go for a while, and didn't say anything too disparaging, but now makes it known that the consequences for such actions have firmly taken hold. Pollack went from being named the opening day starter to basically having no chance of starting early this season.I just have to love ML's leadership here. He makes it known to everyone on the team that regardless of who you are, what you're getting paid, or what you potential is... you are replaceable, so you better work you butt off.Just another step taken in the right directiong removing us further away from those horrible 90's. Kirkendall
Pay cut?if he's not starting he'll make less money That's not how first-round signings work.
ShulaSteakhouse
Beyond the obvious depth chart reasoning I'm sure this removes some of the leverage Pollack had since they named him a starter in the off-season.
Spain
Id love to see this guy get a paycut by not starting. Yes Kazkal if he is a great player Ill get over it. However Im just wondering if the guy is going to be a bitch every time a contract comes up! another thing is that a player if he is good he shouldnt worry about an incentive laden contract! derekshank
Spain, how long have you been a Bengals fan? have you hated all the players who have held out and missed some camp? Do you continue to hate Perry, and Justin Smith, and Willie Anderson? Hold-outs are a part of football. We're not the only team dealing with it, so the quicker you learn to move on, the less pain you will inflict on yourself expecting rookies to show up on time. It's rare. Spain
true derek very true, Its just that a rookie should now you need training camp and the best long term decision is sign the freakin contract!
Sox
There's another reason this is a good move.Landon Johnson has looked great in camp.If you don't reward a player who has actually been there and practiced well over one who isn't even there,it would set a bad example. The Brew Man
Good move, im still nervous though, the longer this lasts the more our defense looks and plays like last year.....
shworge
Good move, im still nervous though, the longer this lasts the more our defense looks and plays like last year..... I think there are a number of upgrades even without Pollack in the lineup. Odell is a true MLB and Landon is an upgrade over Hardy (it was painful watching him in coverage). Plus I think Keiwan and Madieu will be even better in there second year, plus Justin is primed to have a big year on the strong-side. The Brew Man
But there is a reason Pollack was the first round pick, and is the key to this defense turning the corner.....
shworge
But there is a reason Pollack was the first round pick, and is the key to this defense turning the corner..... Yeah, what is that?I don't think Pollack was the key to turning the corner, I think he is just a piece of the puzzle, not a Ray Lewis, Ed Reed or James Farrior type impact player.... at least not yet.
