BlackJesus Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 It was reported on Bengals.comThe Baltimore Sun is reporting Ravens head coach Brian Billick said his club delivered its best offer to Mark Clayton while saying the Ravens won’t change their offer no matter how long Clayton stays away from training camp. Two team officials estimated in the story that the sides are $50,000 and $60,000 apart at the No. 22 slot.I am starting to think Marvin needs to say the same according the Bengals.comthe Bengals and Pollack are supposedly off anywhere between $200,000-$800,000Now it is also reported that The Texans signed Travis Johnson at No. 16 for a reported guarantee of about $7 million on a deal that can reach $10.2 million with a one-time play-time bonus of $525,000.and thatPollack has been sent home by his agents after he told the media at Great American Ballpark earlier this week that they’ve agreed on the money in the five-year deal but not the guaranteed money. The money talked about is about $7 million guaranteed and $10 million overall. So if the pick ahead of Pollack gets 10.2 Million and Pollack has been offered 10 million then that is plenty fair. If you go by the difference of 2-800,000 it sounds to me like Pollack is ok with the 10 mill but unlike Travis Johnson who also only got 7 million guanateed... Pollack might want as high as 7.8 mill guaranteed....If that is the case he is out of his mind and have fun in Atlanta working at Dennys doing dishes Quote
Spain Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Yup, exactly , its time Marvin steps in! Quote
walzav29 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Just put it in as an incentive. Base it on playing time. I understand that these guys should try to get alot, but why fall so far behind? All of that time makes a difference. Year in and year out these guys never learn. Quote
alense Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 This holdout may be a blessing in disguise. As we all know, WE HAVE TO GET OFF TO A QUICK START THIS YEAR. By holding out this long it is almost a guarantee that Pollack will not be a starter on opening day. Although our current linebackers may not be the most talented on our squad, experience counts for a lot. Let Pollack watch from the sidelines for a few games (like Carson, only not nearly as long) just letting him get his feet wet on a few plays. He will be a starter by game 5 and all of this holdout bashing will be forgotten. Quote
DesperateDerelict Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Good post, alense - let the "Cracker Sacker" in on passing downs. Quote
alense Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Thanks. I'm just getting sick of everyone focusing on the negative (not to name any names, Spain). Let's focus on the positive and get ready for the playoff year ahead of us. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 It's a matter not of total money but of guaranteed money at this point. Quote
Ickey44 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 Which is really stupid. If that's the only thing they disagree on, why aren't they talking? How long could it take to come to an agreement over that? Quote

derekshank Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 According to Hobson'd interview with Bresnahan (on his e-mail segment), it seems like Pollack was going to be pretty important in the scheme since Bresnahan wants to disguise a 4-3 from a 3-4. I figured Landon Johnson would fill in for him fine (and he will in the 4-3), but not having Pollack severely limits our ability to pull off a 3-4 at any point in the game.It sounds to me that they drafted Pollack with a plan in mind for their defensive scheme... and in my mind that gives Pollack some leverage. Maybe not a ton of leverage, but certainly more than Clayton has in Baltimore. It's really hurting us not having him in right now.Maybe the Bengals are thinking that the Vikings not having Erasmus James in is hurting them for the 2nd game of the season, and that's their plan. EdwardG Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 I read somewhere the Bengals only offered about 6.3 million in guaranteed money. Quote
BengalNation1281 Posted August 5, 2005 Report Posted August 5, 2005 ...and it's hard to get by on $6.3 million these days. Quote
redsfan2 Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 ...and it's hard to get by on $6.3 million these days. Kinda hard to reconcile the words " only " and " million " in the same sentence isn't it ?????? When Marge Schott owned the Reds, she was stuck with one of the players agents in this exact same way. She left the office and went down onto the field where the guy was practicing ... pulled out a quarter and said " I'll flip you for it " . He said " OK " ...... She lost and went back upstairs and signed the contract. Are you listening Mike ???????? Quote
UofLnMU Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 I guess that I'm a little tired of the "if he comes to camp and signs early, he's great; if not, he's an SOB" business. This is the most important contract/business decision of his life. It'll get done, barring any crazy Ricky Hunley business.... Quote

Oh this is nothing ........ you should have been around for the Palmer vs Kitna discussions that went on and on ad nauseum. You're right tho ........ it'll go straight from " No movement in talks " to " The Bengals and LB David Pollack agreed to terms today. Details of the contract were not available etc etc ".Then it's on to beating the hell out of Rothschild ......... no that's cough drops .... Rothcantspellitanywaysburger. You know who I mean.... and every other qb in the division. :player: Quote
MARVIN=W'S Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 I can't wait for the first time Pollack comes into a game to hear the crowds reaction, I for one will be booing. I know I will eventually be behind this guy because he is a Bengal but this just seems so selfish it reminds me of the old Pickens and Leon days. This is the new era of Bengals and it doesn't look like DP gets it. Move on without him let him sit for the whole year, start LJ and all is well. I know its not going to happen I'm just venting Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 Clayton signed today, after a little tough talk he backed downed, just like Oklahoma has for the last few years. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 Pollack will prob. hold out for the rest of training camp, cause I don't think the Bengal's will back down from their offer. Quote
Kazkal Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 who thinks pollack will fire his agents after making him miss so much but end up signing for about the same amount of money Quote

Just like they do when Justin Smith gets his sacks, regardless of how long he held-out as a rookie. Quote

Just like they do when Justin Smith gets his sacks, regardless of how long he held-out as a rookie. I keep making the same comparison. I hope this one plays out differently but I can remember that one getting so nasty that well into the holdout we learned that neither side had bothered speaking for 12 days. And then when talks resumed they immediately broke down again because Smith's parents were allowed to overhear Lippy's rather remarkable use of profanity. Quote

TJJackson Posted August 7, 2005 Report Posted August 7, 2005 Unfortunately, Clayton signed AFTER the agent got him more guarenteed money and a escalator clause added to the contract....so the Ravens caved, despite what Billick said.....http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nfl&id=2126881the relevant bit:"Both sides agreed on the length of the contract and the money several days earlier, but Clayton's agent, Ben Dogra, was adamant about guaranteed money and an escalator clause that would enable the receiver to receive an additional $2.5 million in his fifth season.Clayton got both." While I don't agree with holdouts I certainly wouldn't boo a player for holding out. Justbe glad when he signs. I have a feeling Pollack is chomping at the bit to be in camp !!!Maybe you should just stay home we don't need fans like you at the game !I hate to be harsh but are you really a closet Clowns fan?
