Kazkal
Pollack heading home?Optimism still reigns despite the mystery surrounding Pollack’s deal. A source outside the club said there has been no progress. If they are close on guaranteed money, then they must be far away on how to earn it. But neither side is talking as Pollack is in danger of becoming the second straight first-rounder not to be on campus for Friday night’s intrasquad scrimmage. A source outside the Bengals said Thursday morning that his agents planned to pull Pollack out of Cincinnati and send him home to suburban Atlanta. sandina
OK, I'll start off by admitting, I am a Georgia "lurker". But, I thought I'd stick my two cents worth in. After reading the posts, I've gotten the impression that the Bengals have a history of maybe being stubborn (?) when it comes to signing some key players. I don't know that. It's just what I'm picking up from the posts.Let me tell you a little about David Pollack. David Pollack for four years at UGA never had a scandal associated with his name. Not once did I ever hear anything negative about him. He was a team player who was well liked by coaches, players and adored by fans. He had a great attitude, on the field and off. He was active in community service, even as a college student. He was just an all around good kid. And a blast to watch on the field. He brings an element of excitement to the game that you won't believe until you see him. For the last 2+ years of his college play, he was double and triple teamed every game...and he still made the most incredible plays! He's not a "big" guy, but his enthusiam is amazing. (And no, I'm not a friend or relative, but he is much loved in the Bulldawg Nation). Now, if he is being unreasonable in what he is asking for salarywise, that is a different story. But, it appears that he is not asking for anything that any of us wouldn't were we in his shoes. And, hey, if you guys want to send him to Georgia, we'd love to have him back. Then we could add the 'most fun to watch' Defensive Player to the 'most fun to watch' Quarterback (Vick), both playing for the Falcons! Ickey44
I hope you haven't gotten the impression that we don't want him here. There's just a drunk Spaniard around here who for some reason, has taken offense to him not signing yet.

sandina
I think some pissed in his Wheaties. Who knows?Well, we don't have anyone like that here in Georgia...JUST KIDDING!Seriously, I hope things work out well for Pollack and the Bengals. He truly is a great guy and a great player. And you will have a whole new group of Bengal fans (of course, after the Falcons) once Pollack signs.

sandina
You're not a fan of Thurman or Geathers?Absolutely! We love our Dawgs, all of them! College football is king in the South! But, it's just hard to put into words what David Pollack and David Greene, QB (Seattle Seahawks) did for the University of Georgia football program. They brought an excitement, pride, and validity to the program that we haven't had in a long time, maybe never. Crazy as it sounds, both college students, they had a profound effect on the entire Bulldawg Nation.
Ickey44
I have to admit, I've never seen Pollack play. But if he's anything like you say he is, that's freakin' great!!! I can't wait to see him and Odell play. I'm also looking forward to seeing what Jumpy Jr. can do as a starter. He came off the bench and made some big plays for us last year. rizzy
bengals.co this morning:It looks like the Bengals and first-round pick David Pollack are in Catch 22-land. With the Vikings waiting on the Bengals to sign Erasmus James into the 18th slot, the negotiations have frozen with no one blinking. The Bengals apparently have made an offer fitting into Pollack’s 17th slot, but maybe Pollack’s agents are waiting for James to sign, too. Who knows? Expect that Pollack has been sent home by his agents after he told the media at Great American Ballpark earlier this week that they’ve agreed on the money in the five-year deal but not the guaranteed money. It is stupid if they are waiting on james to be signed in at the 18 spot. They just need to get it done so everyone can stop talking crap about him. It is all the agents fault he is not in camp yet.
BengalPappaw
Wake up Bengal fans!!!! Its just the Bengals management doing "their thing"!! If you walk into a bar and 5 out of 7 times they refuse to serve you -- you better look in the mirror somethings wrong with you -- NOT them!!With the Bengals 5 of the last 7 No. 1 draft choices have "heldout" -- it NOT the draft choice's fault -- it the BENGALS!!!The BENGALS continue to be "penny wise and pound foolish" (a monetary analogy for our foreign readers). The BENGALS will hold to their "principles" to save a few hundred thousand-- and IMO lose a chance to build a special defense THIS year!COME ON MIKEEE LET GO OF THE PURSE STRINGS AND GET POLLACK IN TOWN NOW!!!!!! BengalszoneBilly
I think some of this reason for this may be because The Bengals (IMHO) got some really quality players in this draft. Far more than they used to do, that's for sure! To get these types of players signed is going to take a small fortune to do, and as we are all aware about Mike Brown, is that he's tight with money.Example? Sure: Mikie is sooo tight with money, that you could take a piece of raw coal, and stuff it up his a$$, and in one week you'll have yourself a world class diamond! HoosierCat
The point is that the problem is the BENGALS -- not POllack I thought this, from the enquirer story today, was noteworthy (emphasis added)...The money difference between the club and IMG for the guaranteed signing bonus, reportedly a few hundred thousand dollars, is relatively small by NFL standards. The Bengals are counting on Pollack giving in, and club officials believe that Pollack's enthusiasm and desire to get on the field will force him to crack and accept a lesser deal, the source said.Force him to accept a lesser deal......The more things change...the more they stay the same... Damn, I hate it when they start negotiating through the media. It's when things get so slanted & manipulated that the wheels come off the cart. What exactly is meant by.....force him to crack and accept a lesser deal? Are we talking about a below market deal? Or simply less than the above market deal the Bengals are insisting Camp Pollack is demanding? Simply change a word or two and the reader might swing either way. More? In my opinion an agent sending Pollack back home is a pretty transparent ploy for leverage, as was the rewording of that news on the da' site. Both actions are almost certainly going to be ignored at the bargaining table, but not by fans. Damn.

BengalszoneBilly
Every post has mentioned both Pollack and the Bengals, but there's a third substantial player in this. Pollacks agent! Has anyone considered he may be the fly in the ointment?

HoosierCat
Damn, I hate it when they start negotiating through the media. It's when things get so slanted & manipulated that the wheels come off the cart.Yup. And I agree that all the little games (rewording stories, having Pollack go back to GA) are pointless acts that just make both sides look like 3-year-olds.What exactly is meant by.....force him to crack and accept a lesser deal? Are we talking about a below market deal? Or simply less than the above market deal the Bengals are insisting Camp Pollack is demanding? Simply change a word or two and the reader might swing either way.My own, completely speculative, take is this: The "slot" for Pollack has some wiggle room in it. On the high end of the slot, you could have a "fair" deal that totalled around $10 million, with maybe $7.1 million or so guaranteed. On the low end, you could have a deal that had $6.5 million guaranteed and be worth $9.5 million or so total. The Bengals want a "lesser" deal, in other words, one closer to the low end of the slot, while Pollack & Co. want one at the high end. BengalPappaw
While I might admit that BOTH sides are at fault -- the Bengals track record shows me that they are definitely at fault -- again. I have no reason to suspect Pollack of doing anything more than getting his first contract signed. EGO's are at work here!!!! They want to be WINNERS at negotiation and NOT football!Lets declare both sides as Weiners -- and move on!! I want FOOTBALL with Pollack!!!! :player:
