AMC Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Saturday that backup linebacker Caleb Miller has undergone surgery "to clean out his ankle," and is expected to miss about three weeks but be ready for the regular-season opener. Why was this not done earlier???????????????????????????? Quote
ArmyBengal Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Once again, gotta question the medical staff on this one. How could they not know his ankle was in this bad of shape ?? Anyone ever heard of an MRI ?? This kind of stuff pisses me off. I have never been on Miller's bandwagon, but the medical blunders seem to be building for this team.WHODEY !!! Quote
joshh967 Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Well the middle linebacker spot was already pushed to the limits with the amount of guys that can play it. I think Caleb is officially out of the race ha ha. I was really looking forward to seeing him play too Quote
HoosierCat Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Why was this not done earlier???????????????????????????? I think it was...at least, I know he had ankle surgery already in the offseason. Clearly there's an ongoing issue... Quote

andybren Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 From .com...Miller, a third-rounder from last season, has been plagued by ankle problems ever since he started in place of Brian Simmons last year at right outside linebacker in the regular-season opener against the Jets. He re-aggravated it against Dallas Nov. 7 and basically battled the problem all year and still only missed three games. He ended up having surgery on both ankles in the offseason, which took him out of the May and June camps.Lewis said Miller should be ready for this season opener. He could run straight ahead, but Lewis said there was still a problem when he cut. Quote

I think Caleb is officially out of the race ha ha. I was really looking forward to seeing him play too Why, he's not very good, and he's constantly hurt. Do people just like him because he's got a Biblical name and he's white? Seriously, he's not that good and will be lucky to ever "earn" a starting LB job in the NFL for any team. He's got some quickness/speed but that's about it.Not trying to poo-poo on anyone's post or thoughts just don't really understand the obsession with this guy.As for the medical stuff it just seems like the same guys from last year are carrying the same crap into this year with their injuries for some reason. Spain Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 No shula, I think its that draft left a bad taste in my and many other fans mouth. later Marvin proved us all wrong. I am expecting something from this guy however he seems to be made of glass. The only thing that saves him is that he played through it and every now and then did something. He might be able to contibute but he was burried when we took two linebackers in the draft. He might prove to be a great backup for this team. Two cents Quote
Kazkal Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 made of glass? I'd say perry is alot closer to that miller only missed 3 games because of injury and played through hurt.drew brees hurt his shoulder in week 4 and continued to play with it hurt throughout the rest of the season Quote
kingwilly Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 I agree with the thread-mates here. Do the Bengals, in their Mike Brown wisdom, have some sort of public agency HMO for a health plan? Do you have to have a bone breaking the skin before they give you an x-ray? The list of errors is long but these situations to key players is disturbing.- Perry- Mis-diagnosed sports hernia, claled a pulled groin/abdominal for months.- Warrick - Mis-diagnosed knee and leg, a knee strain tht became mysterioustorn cartiledge, then a bruised shin that became a fractured bone...????The medical staff here needs a review. If I got nicked up and I was Chad, Carson, Rudi, etc., I would be heading straight to my own doctors before I let these hacks get to me. Quote
HoosierCat Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Questions about the Bengals' medical staff are, unfortunately, an old, old problem...http://espn.go.com/gen/s/2002/0912/1431170.htmlNow, yeah, thats all pre-Lewis, way pre-Lewis...question is, have the Bengals changed their docs in the last 5 years? I don't know but I don't recall hearing anything... Quote
schweinhart Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 aren't they moving him to sslb to backup pollack A recipe for disaster. They ought to keep him PUP into the regular season then bring him up if he's needed at weakside for some reason. Otherwise wait til week 6 and make the decision to cut or keep him then. But keeping him means somebody else on the roster at that time will have to go. Quote
walshfan Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 Caleb had a tiny chip floating around in his ankle from the previous surgery.. It was bothering him somewhat when he made a cut so its best to go in remove it now and get the ankle healthy for the season... Quote

The Big Orange Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 jesus lol He does, but it's got to be damn funny...like the Carson fallHere's an embaressing thing about me...I thought that maybe, just maybe, Caelb was the real deal when he got drafted. During the preseason game vs. Atlanta last year that the Bengals got embaressed badly I made a Caleb Miller fan club sign...about 2 feet X 3 feet. The other side said RUDI!Sad to say how wrong I was about this one...he's a solid backup LB and special teamer at best. And Shula, the white didn't impress me...I'm white and it's not that hard...but the biblical name did...my favorite all-time Bengal player...Solomon WilcottsMy kids names...Abraham, Solomon, Triniti...my name...Dave..me likes the God stuff...go figure Quote
Kazkal Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Lewis chose a bit more charity, and likes the way the notorious string bean put some weight on to get to near 230 pounds.“Poor Caleb,” Lewis said. “Last year when everyone left here, how impressed they were with him, but the season didn’t go in his favor. He’s relieved now. We’ve got one ankle feeling really good and one not quite right, and it wasn’t floating around in his brain, it was floating around in his ankle. He’s really transformed his body this offseason and matured a little bit.” ~~~Seems like lewis likes caleb too Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 Well Marvin's not going to say anything bad about him - but it's good to hear he's bulked up, and that he was playing hurt most of the time last year even when he was supposably healthy - he has the speed and ability to be pretty good but had a real hard time adjusting to the NFL level I think - blatantly missing tackles - but showing the ability to get to the spot and make good reads, at least it looked that way.I hope that was just because he was banged up, a rookie, and simply not strong/big enough. Guess we'll see, but not every draft pick is going to pan-out. We'll have to see that media picture some day, hehe.Of course I hope Miller has a good season and makes a difference when he gets a chance, no problem with him as a back-up/special teamer, just hope he doesn't have to start much.
