derekshank Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 For some reason the Chargers released Jesse Chatman, their backup to Tomlinson. I saw him play a couple times last year, and he was a brute. Relaly quick for being that huge. I think he would make very good depth at a RB position riddled with question marks after Rudi. I suppose if Perry is healthy it's not an issue, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a guy like this in stripes. You can never have too much depth at RB. We probably don't have the cash though, and other teams are more desperate than us. Oh well, it was fun thinking about having a RB that is is fatter than some of our linemen. Quote

DontPushMe Posted July 27, 2005 Report Posted July 27, 2005 We dont need a new backup, Rudi Johnson will fill that role very well once Perry takes over the starting job. Quote

MacD BengalFan Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 We dont need a new backup, Rudi Johnson will fill that role very well once Perry takes over the starting job. And when do you think Chris Perry will take over the starting position? And why? do you expect Rudi to suffer an injury? Or is it because you think he is better then Rudi? I for one, think Rudi will be the starter, period. Chris has shown flashes of decency, but nothing to say that he will become the starter over Rudi. Chris has decent outside speed, but not the inside bruiser that Rudi is. Chris might have breakaway speed, but he has not shown it. Rudi is a power runner that will move the chains and score touchdowns from close in. Chris Perry has not shown that. We all know what Rudi can do. He may not have breakaway speed, but he makes 1st and 10 become 2nd and 2 and punishes the secondary. This makes the play calling so much easier. So for my money, Rudi is the starter and will remain so. Oh, and he already set the team record for rushing yards in a season in his first full season. Quote
DontTakeAkili Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Don't you all think the Chris Perry talk is a BIT premature? I mean the guy hasn't shown that he can even suit up, let alone steal some carries or (are you kidding me?) take Rudi's starting job.Let's just hope that Perry can make it TO training camp and then THROUGH it before we start the RB controversy talk. And Bobcat Bengal, as a member of the OU class of '03, I salute your excellent logo! membengal Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Eh, what there really needs to be is a nice way to alert unwary newcomers to the players in the inevitable Perry/Johnson thread that will evolve. I feel bad for the newcomers who behold DPM for the first time and try to be the voice of reason. Like bailing water from the ocean and wondering why you are not getting anywhere. Quote
walshfan Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Jesus, not this again... Might as well close this post, it's already out of control...WHODEY !!! I agree.. Im so damn tired of this Rudi, Chris bickering... hell if Rudi starts and gets most of the carries because of his productivity fine... If Marvin thinks Chris is healthy enough to be productive and gives him his chance then Ill be anticipating and hoping for him to be successful... They are BENGALS after all!!!! Quote
HairOnFire Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Just for the record, I sorta like Chris Perry. Never was a fan of the pick and the constant Rudi bashing got under my skin enough that I looked for a way to "pushy back" when my boy got shoved, but Perry is a Bengal. So I'll happily do a better job of supporting him....as soon as he does something worthwhile. Quote

I think any Bengal fans would be more than happy with ANY running back that (follow me here) PRODUCES ON THE FIELD... Up until this current time, we only have Rudi and Watson that can be put into that category. While I was, and still am to an extent, PISSED off about the C. Perry pick, I am hopeful that he comes in and is an absolute beast. :player: Can anyone say they "WANT" Perry to be a bust ?? That would be stupid... A healthy Perry (follow me again) helps Rudi... If he developes to such an extent that he's better than Rudi, than so be it, hell let's have a F**KING parade in his honor, but until he developes to THAT level, we have what we have, an unproven running back out of college.Anyone ever get the feeling they're banging their head against a wall ??WHODEY !!! thefrazz Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 We are fine at RB.Where we are not fine is at TE. We need a more well rounded TE that can block AND catch...not one or the other (I'm still not sold on Shobel)We draft a good TE, then release 2 of the 3 we have (take pick!) we will be in better shape. No question about us being fine at the RB position, it's just funny how some threads take on a life of their own...WHODEY !!! Quote
Stripes Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 Chris Perry may very well end up a good back, but there's no reason to already say "he's the future starter." Rudi Johnson just got done running for more yards than any Bengal EVER HAS. That's good enough for me, and it's good enough for Marvin, Bradkowski, and everyone else that makes the decisions. Perry was drafted as insurance if Rudi didn't pan out, but he did. Perry will be a good change of pace back, as a backup. I can't possibly imagine any plans are in place for that to change. As for TE's, i don't understand why they get so much bashing around here. Schobel has shown he can get open, ad should produce fairly well in a pass happy Palmer led offense. Kelly is an excellent blocker, and that's what Marvin is after, hence him being number one on the depth chart. Stewart can handle both jobs to spell either other TE. Sure, I wouldn't mind drafting a good TE in '06, but I don't think it's a pressing need. The only such needs I forsee are at strong safety and guard. Quote
walzav29 Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 We underestimate Rudi so much it's ridiculous. He faced the most brutal schedule out of all NFL backs laste year, and didn't miss a game. He has unbelievable power and balance. Perry will be a great James Brooks type (hopefully), but I can't picture him being durable enough. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted July 28, 2005 Report Posted July 28, 2005 With Rudi Johnson, Chris Perry, Kenny Watson, and Quincy Wilson, we have plenty of depth. Frankly, Wilson is just as good as Jessie Fatman. Quote
