Whur CHad At?
I have a feeling we will be addressing the Tackle Position in the draft next year. Anybody have any big name DT prospects?
BengalPappaw
YES!! -- Ngata 6'4" 345 Oregon; Rod Wright 6'4" 315 Texas; and Gabe Watson 6'3" 345 Michigan.

schweinhart
FWIW, I got a chance to watch Haloti Ngata for 4 series yesterday.I would like to watch him play vs. a team that runs the ball more and doesn't rely on quick run and shoot styled passing game to gauge better how he stands vs. run.As it were. I can only offers some obs on Ngata in pass rush. Due to multiple receiver sets, Ngata played about half of what I saw as a NT directly over center in a 3-man rush. He has excellent power off bullrush and registered an impressive sack. However, I saw him stunt twice -- once w/ tackle and other w/ end and have to say that he stunts too slow and lacks balance w/ lateral movement.IMO he's disproportinately heavy asswise and his agility suffers because of it. At this point, I don't see him as a much better prospect than Anthony Bryant was last year, but I'd like to watch how he handles a running attack.Another DT prospect Anthony Montgomery of Minnesota also played last night. Listed at 6-5, 305, he looks slightly heavier -- all in the upper body. Granted he was playing vs. Tusla linemen, but he showed better arm strength in shoving off blockers than it seemed like he had last year. However, he didn't look as quick as last year. He's still agile with good back side pursuit along the LOS and downfield, but he needs to increase his quickness.
turningpoint
i think our true glaring need is at safety opposite madieu williams, we get another playmaker there and i think our d will be set....but then again i could see us getting a SS in the second round, and a DT in the 1st. TJJackson
Rodrique Wright is the one we want.....assuming he doesn't have a letdown year this year.
scott91575
Honestly, I hope that either we don't get him (he will be a top 15 pick, maybe top 10) or he does have an off year so he drops. Even then do you want him after an off year?Hopefully the Bengals are picking in the 20's (or higher would be nice). Watson will most likely be a late 1st rounder. Huge run stuffer with lots of talent, but seems to underachieve with all his talent. Of course the same thing can be said of the entire Michigan D. Thing is, Marvin's well-known for drafting talent over need (see Perry, Chris). I thought they'd get a damned SS and DT this year, but we got two WR instead and a stout LB corps. God knows what we'll get next year, I'd expect anything except a QB, maybe RB.Drafting talent over need - particularly talented guys who project well in the system - is the way to build a dynasty like Philly or NE as opposed to plugging holes every year. It's frustrating (speaking as a fan), but it shows that Marvin is more patient than I. And as it turned out, drafting Chris Henry gave us the depth to can Warrick and he looked pretty good last night too.

No, its not that I dont trust either one of them, its just natural progression.James is getting up there in age as well.Just something to think about. jtsmith38
I seriously doubt a TE will be drafted high. What about AJ Hawk? Or will Cincy not be in position to draft him. Didn't do too well with the last OSU LB drafted, but this guy seems very capable. 'Thurman Pollack & Hawk' Defensive Inc. Big Gabe Watson COULD be a beast. Go Blue! LABengalsFan09
Darnell Bing and Marcedes Lewis!!!!! That would be unbeleivable!!!!!

BlainThePain
Gabe Watson was my favorite preseason DT untill I found out he showed up to camp at around 365 pounds. Supposedly he has a bad habit of putting on weight in the offseason. I'd love to see us take Darnell Bing, but I don't think we will be in a position to draft him. All three of ML's first round picks have been seniors and Bing will only be a junior and I dont see him being available to us in the second round. schweinhart
Darnell Bing and Marcedes Lewis!!!!! That would be unbeleivable!!!!! Good God man, what you trying to get the Bengals to do, win a Super Bowl.Darnell Bing looked strong, fast, and just flat out great last night vs. Hawaii. There was a couple plays where he was late deep in the seam but he was playing centerfield a lot w/o anybody else back there with him. It's early, but Bing and Jimmy Williams of Va Tech look like frontrunners at the position to go in the 1st rd if Bing enters early. Williams will be prime time tonight on ABC 7:15 EDT when Va Tech plays Nc State, but it sounds like he'll be at CB.Marcedes Lewis is an unbelievable talent. He demonstrated just how excellent his route running and pass ctaching skills are early last night vs. San Diego St. I was surprised to see the fight he's got in him when he lines up to block. He'll have to work on his leg and arm strength, but he looks like a willing blocker. Teams may look hard at him as a WR, especially out of the slot, but if he bulks up a bit, he could be a monster TE in the NFL.
schweinhart
Another DT who ought to be on the prospect list:John McCargo 6-3, 300# JR. from NC State. If he enters early, he'll be coveted for his ability to get tackles for loss. Watching NC State-Va Tech, McCargo has the knack for blasting his way into the backfield.
Stripes
Isn't there a good DT prospect coming out of BYU? I forget his name at the moment, one of you may have already mentioned him.
kurgan74
If the Bengals go after a TE, Greg Olson from Miami looked mighty Impressive last night. His coaches say he might be the best TE to come through that program.

bengalindian
Yeah, I hope they get either Darnell Bing, or Donte Whittner. Also, I think they may go QB 3rd or 4th round if Kitna doesn't stay. You never knows what'll happen.
The_Next_Big_Thing
Don't forget the local guy from Louisville, Montavious Stanley at DT. He flat out shuts down the run and provides a good pass rush up the middle. He's 6'2", 305 lbs, and has a prototypical physique for the DT position, and looks to be a potential late 1st round pick. Another guy I like for round 2 or 3 is Manny Lawson from NC State. He looks to be the real deal at DE.What do all you OSU fans think about Nate Salley at SS? From what I've seen, he looks like he will be a good SS in the NFL.Oh, and to continue the plan of freaky names to be drafted by the Bengals, perhaps on day 2 we can pick SS Jahmile Addae.... schweinhart
Rodrique Wright is the one we want.....assuming he doesn't have a letdown year this year. Texas vs. Ohio State ought to be an excellent game to judge where Wright is at, even though it's early.Personally, though, I'm starting to lean toward WSLB or LT as a draft priority over DT, SS, or TE but it just depends who's there at the pick. bengalindian
Well, I believe on Saturday they mentioned that Nate Salley doesn't have a career interception. But don't let that fool you. Everyone of those starting 11 for OSU can hit you hard, and from what I saw against Miami, and last year, they're pretty much in position and don't get beat for big plays. So either Donte Whittner or Nate Salley would be solid picks because I think (not sure) both could play SS.
