BENGALTHEM Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Do you think cliff russell and kevin walter will get cut, to make room for Tab Perry and Chris Henry? That way we can keep six wrschadhoushwarrickkelleyhenrytab Quote
walzav29 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 It will be Washington, and Russell. They like Walters special teams play. Chris Henry will be groomed to replace Chad Johnson in 2 years. Quote
CantStop85 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Yes...Cliff Russell will get cut because he can't catch, he can only run down the field very fast.Kevin Walter might make it over Kelley Washington, but I seriously doubt it. Quote
The_Next_Big_Thing Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Warrick and Washington have to prove they are worth keeping over Russell and Walter. Neither does jack on special teams, Warrick will only be here this season if that. Henry is being groomed not to be Chad's replacement, but to be TJs replacement. There's no way Chad gets out of Cincinnati. Quote
Stripes Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I have heard nothing about any plans to replace Chad Johnson with Chris Henry in a few seasons. That honestly sounds ludicrous. The ony knock on Chad is his overconfidence and difficulty to coach (which isn't even true). Chris Henry hasn't even set foot on the field during gametime and draft people have labeled him with the same problems. I think the 6 WRs will be Johnson, Houshmanzadeh, Warrick, Henry, Washington, and Perry, in that order. Quote
RedsFan75 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I always thought Washington had lots of ablility, but never really took advantage of the opportunities.I liked Walter and what he did last year.Russell, ehh... never really cared... Quote
jditty47 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 well tab is a return specialist and they said ratliff will be taking over fulltime on the punt returns so....no need for cliff. i honestly dont know about walters...i dont see him making it over washington...i feel u can field special teams from other positions like defense etc. otherwise corners and wr's are interchangable on special teams. Quote
Brownflushitdown Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 the only way walters makes the team is if Warrick isn't healthy good points though. They have to give Washington one more year at least. Quote
cincyhokie Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I wouldn't underestimate Marvin's emphasis on special teams. Walter excels in this area and he also made a few nice catches last year. I really haven't seen a whole lot from Washington since he has been here. Between the two, I think that Walter has more of a "do anything for the team" attitude. Also, if Chad, Housh, Warrick, and Henry are the top 4 starters, how much does the offense even need Washington? Tab would be the kick returner and Walter is a hard nosed special teamer. If Washington is going to make this team he has to beat out Henry for the 4th spot, assuming Warrick is healthy. I think Washington and his squirrel dance get cut. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Yup, I'm going with Walter over Kelly too. Quote
Irish Bengal Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 How many times are we going to rehash this ?Washington stays!Walters or Russell goes!Russell did return the ball on kickoffs last year. Quote
CantStop85 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Who would you rather see as a third or fourth receiver if someone got injured? Washington or Walter? Enough said. Quote
cincyhokie Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Who would you rather see as a third or fourth receiver if someone got injured? Washington or Walter? Enough said.Maybe Tab Perry. You never know. Plus, can we remember who the 4th WR was last year?I think that it WAS Walter and/or Russell.Last year:ChadHoushWashingtonWalterRussellCockeran/Broussard???So now that we have established that Russell and Walter were the 4th WR's LAST year, and they were almost non existent in the offense, do we really want to mess with the improving special teams? Anyway, look at last year. I don't think that we used very many 4WR sets. This year (potentially):ChadHoushWarrickHenry- now this year our 4th WR can be a BIG part of the offenseWalter- could fill in for 4th WRPerry- could fill in for 4th WRTo be honest, I've just never been impressed with Washington. He had a big chance to step up last year when Warrick went down and he got beat out by a smaller, slower, but guttier Houshmandzedeh.Enough said. Quote
cincyhokie Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 ...i feel u can field special teams from other positions like defense etc. otherwise corners and wr's are interchangable on special teams. Look I'm not trying to pick on you but....THIS IS EXACTLY what the mindset was before Marvin got here concerning special teams."Well, we'll plug some guys in here and there and see what happens.""It's only a kick-off and a punt or two. Let's just stick the 3rd teamers in there to get them some work."Special teams is a priority, not an afterthought with Marvin.Marvin KEEPS guys on the roster who excel in special teams. He has said this many times since his arrival here.Washington is a one dementional underacheiver and it was he who was feeling the heat with the drafting of Henry and Perry. Quote
Irish Bengal Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 He didn't beat him out they were both on the field on virtually all plays.Housh played the slot alot while Washington played opposite Chad.Housh also had 4yrs experience to 1yr.Enough said! Quote
Kazkal Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I think they'll go to the practice squadIMO WR'sChad,tj,warrick,Kdub, henry and tab (inless he doesn't shine which then i'd say one of the other ones Quote

I see your point. What I meant was that it was Housh who made the plays last year and became the #2 guy. It could have been Washington.BTW, Housh had 2 years of experience from playing time (2001, 2002, IR for 2003) Washington had 1 year in 2003. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 We have enough pass catching recievers already. Washington won't be here FOR THE SOLE REASON that the 4th reciever plays special teams, something that squirrell boy has never EVER done. Gotta have a guy like Walter on the team.Chad TJ WarrickHenryWalter Tab Quote
CBin2k7 Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Chad, TJ, PW, Henry, Perry, WalterI really think that Kelley and PW are competing for the spot. You can't underestimate the value of great special teams players and Marvin loves that about Walter. PW will beat out Walter.Tab Perry will return kicks, and PW will be the back up Punt Return as well as the 3rd receiver. Quote
Irish Bengal Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Ok lets discuss special teams. Return yardage:Russell: 39-872 22.4 ypc 13 games last yearWalter: 0-0 2 seasonsTackles:Russell: 1 tlkWalter: 17 tlk 2 seasonsI'd have to choose Russell, Kick returners are definitely more important and harder to find. I think one of the reasons they brought in Perry was to challenge and (I think they are hoping) take the return job away from Russell. Quote

It's not like Cliff Russell is Dante Hall, his average of 22.4 yards is 19th in the NFL and his long was only 40 yds. Easily Replaceable. Quote
Spain Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Walter has been getting some pub for his offseason Id say he makes it and we see Washington or Warrik go! Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 To much up in the air to tell who stays and who goes. 7-11 and TJ are the only set WR's in the bunch. Pdub is still a ? due to injury, lack of size and breakaway speed. Kdub is still in learning mode this is his make or break year. Henry is a ROOK WR the hardest position to come in and play other than QB. Perry DITTO. Walter is no threat as WR but a monster on Special Teams. Russel is a returner, not much of a WR's. Broussard looks to be a returner and a WR's in the style of Pdub but with the breakaway speed that this team is missing. Cocherian I don't have a clue about. As I have said before it is great to have a position battle for something other than #1 QB, and get used to releasing above average players that Marvin Lewis did not draft. He has a plan for the team long term, youth and speed. This could mean alot of turnover this year in the WR's group. Quote
