The Big Orange
I found these articles on the web recently and I think they make a good arguement for Chad leap-frogging over the 2 or 3 WR's ahead of him to #1. I certainly could see this happening...but I've been bit by the Bengal Bug...http://www.notjustagame.com/2005/06/07/382/http://www.notjustagame.com/2005/06/11/387/

AMC
He's, in my mind, the best YOUNG receiver in football....Harrison, Owens, etc are all peaking or have peaked. Johnson will keeping on growing and be #1. Look at CJs stats his first years in the league compared to Harrison and all those guys. They stack up nicely. :player: :player: :player: :player:
derekshank
Anybody else worried about the fact that Chad eats at McDonalds 3 times a day? My guess is he's not eating their new fruit and walnut salad. To stay in shape after he hits 30 in a couple years, he's going to have to eat better. He may be one of the best receivers in the league right now, but as I'm sure many people on this board have found out, those washboard abs don't stick around by eating Big Mac's and large fries, with an extra large coke.I'm not worried from a Bengals standpoint at this point, because Henry could pick up where he leaves off, but for Chad's name in history, he might have to take some interest in a healthy diet. After age 30, muscle stops developing naturally, and it is harder and harder to stay in good shape. Chad can only eat fast food like this for 2 more years. After that we might remember him for what he could have been.
ckj414
Anything is possible, but that first article was written by an ignoramus. Oakland's 'West Coast Offense' is going to hurt Moss's stats? Uh, while Oakland may play on the West Coast, there is nothing 'West Coast' about their offense. Apparently the difference was lost on that guy. Moss is still going to get TDs. For all his flaws, Kerry Collins throws the deep ball as good as anyone. Anyway, for Chad to make that leap a lot of things are going to need to fall into place. Injuries to other players, etc. The McDonalds won't help.
johnson85
I think Chad can make the leap to #1 this year as long as he and Carson stay healthy. He needs to talk to Jerry Rice and figure out what he ate to stay in shape, if I was him I would be doing everything that he did, cause hes at the top and Chad he isnt going to stop until hes the greatest ever. luxm
I know at the Raiders game in 2003, Chad asked if he can talk to Jerry Rice at the end of his season about how to better his game. He said later that he knows he has to stay healthy and work out if he wants Jerry's record. Also, Marvin Lewis chimed in on him eating healthier last year and so did tory holt. So I'm not too wrried about it.

Here's the main difference. Morgan Spurlock is 35 years old. Aging begins at 30. Loss of muscles continues with the advancing age despite regular excercise. It's just the way life is. So, if you really think he can continue eating this way, and having a high level of performance, he's kidding himself.Hopefully he does understand that, and if you don't understand it, it's clear that you haven't experienced the effects of getting older. I'm not even 30 yet, but certainly understand what can happen to a body that isn't prperly cared for.

ShulaSteakhouse
Loss of muscles continues with the advancing age despite regular excercise. Not sure what you mean there - muscles don't "naturally grow" at "any age" after childhood years unless you develop and feed them with nutrition. After age 30 your metabolism slows down and your body may stop producing as much testosterone and other chemicals naturally, but your ability to build and add muscle won't really stop until your elder years.I am 36 and am thinner and have more lean muscle than I did 10-15 years ago as a result of working out 4-5 times a week, watching my diet and taking supplements...and I still eat junk food and drink beer on weekends.Chad just needs to take care of his body as you suggest and I think he realizes that - but the McDonald's thing is stupid for him - yes - your body at a certain age will stop burning fat as easily and is more likely to store it instead - that's the problem.McD's is pure garbage just like all other fast food and it's bad for you pure and simple. Finally on CJ himself - if he doesn't work on running after the catch and improving his timing with Carson he will not be the #1 WR - ever.He needs to increase his strength and ability to shed tackles and catch balls in stride (timing) and have patterns designed for him to make plays after the catch. The Bengals seem to just throw him sideline patterns and deep balls instead of slants and post patterns that give him the opportunity to break tackles or run past defenders. And I'm generalizing here quite a bit. But, I see no reason why he still can't improve now that he has a QB with an actual arm who make any kind of throw imagineable. The sky's the limit for him and Carson, they know it, but I think Chad has room for improvement.

Most peoples' muscles reach their maximum size during their 25th year of life.New research shows that the primary reason for this reduction is that the total number of cells in any particular muscle stays pretty constant until the age of 30 but then begins a steady decline. Individual muscle cells in your body can be either type 1 ('slow-twitch') fibres, which contract slowly but have great endurance potential, or type 2 ('fast twitch') fibres, which contract quickly and powerfully but have little endurance. A decrease in the size of type 2 fibres plays a role in the muscle-shrinking process, with individual fast-twitchers shrivelling by about 25-30 per cent between the ages of 20 and 80. However, this loss is somewhat compensated for by the steadfastness of type 1 ('slow-twitch') muscle cells, which either remain unchanged in size or can expand by up to 20 per cent in individuals who remain very physically active as they get older. Not knowing what type of muscle fibres Chad Johnson has somewhat makes this somewhat inconclusive as to how much not taking care of himself will effect him. But it is clear that after age 25 and especially 30, it becomes increasingly necessary to be extremely proactive in this pursuit.Chad is a professional athelete, so he is in a kind of athletic shape that anyone here has never even dreamed of, but the fact is, others in the NFL (like Jerry Rice) have maintained their bodies with excessive dedication. I just hope Chad chooses to do the same, because at age 27, the easy years are behind him.

That would wreak havoc on your body if you weren't used to it. Note that in 'Super Size Me', they quietly note that at his last check up his blood work improved - his body was gradually adapting to his new diet. Still, that food is hardly appropriate for a professional athlete. Or anyone else for that matter.
