Spencer: Big Teams Hurt Sport

Jimmy Spenser said on NASCAR this morning, that he believes with the big NASCAR teams, the sport runs the risk of having a Formula One repeat at Indy where the big-time owners could dictate the sport.

He didn't say that it would happen, but the chances are there and I think he's pretty close to the truth. I highly doubt it will happen, but Spencer's point revolves around single-engine car owners getting the bottom of the pecking order never having a chance to compete for a championship, or even a win.

I looked up this stat and it's very telling. Since 2004, there has been 53 races run. 60% have been won by either Hendricks or Roush. These numbers show a trend (but not concluded) that NASCAR is showing the same non-parity as MLB. With DEI and Evernham going to a third team next season, and Gibbs establishing a 3rd this season, single-team engines are a thing of the past.

However, is this really any different than the past? The Petty/Allison/Waltrip/Pearson era?

Do you think big-teams are ruining the competitiveness of the sport reducing it to elite teams (only 2-3 teams having a chance to win)?

Jimmy Spencer? If he's not punching Kurt Busch in the nose, then he's not doing anything worth mentioning. He needs to go grab Kyle Petty, and both of them take off to retirement hills.

He's just pissed because he see's the writing on the wall of future drivers, and his name ain't on it. Bye, bye Jimmy. Don't let the door hit you in that fat ass of yours.

Remember this is the same guy that was spouting off against Toyota joining the truck series, and it's as successful as EVER. He has zero credibility. Well, except for knockin Kurt in the noggin.

Maybe, but the substance of his point geared nothing towards his own career and something that could pose a bigger problem down the road.

It has EVERYTHING to do with his career. Teams will be merging, expanding, whatever it takes to gain the same advantage. They will be looking for GOOD and YOUNG drivers to fill those requirements.

He is neither, and he knows it. Jimmy, go find a truck team to drive for. Your Cup days are DONE. Maybe if you apologize real nice to Toyota, they'll feel sorry for your dumb ass, and give you a job. A job YOU need!
