Spain Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 OK year after year we have just been watching Justin just miss so many sacks. He is close but just doesnt get there. Now we have him switching positions to the sack friendly left side. So is this going to rejuvinate his career or will it simply show what some people have been saying on different message boards(bustin Justin) Marvin has stated that this guy has been a victim of previous coaches futility. However we have been hit with propaganda before-. Its easy to hold the company line on a guy. However I havent noticed in Marvin. IMHO if Marvin believes in this guy then i do too. The real ? that i have is this guy ever going to live up too being drafted fourth in the draft? IMHO Guys on the d line like Justin can have break out years in the right d, This guy might get 16 sacks from that position. What do you think bengaldom? Quote
brian5562 Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 Spain, can't come up with anything better to ask or just a moron? You make the call. Quote
skyline Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 Not a star or a bust. So far, a solid player. We'll see what happens this year from his new spot in the D. Quote
Spain Posted June 21, 2005 Author Report Posted June 21, 2005 Sorry Im curious on what some of these guys have to say, I dont get to talk to football anywhere else yet I am a die hard fan. So alot of these guys have interesting things to say. So if my post bore you just dont read them. Quote

Spain Posted June 21, 2005 Author Report Posted June 21, 2005 I was thinking this could be a breal out year for him. He will finally have the pass rushing partners he deserves. This could be a monster year for himIMHO Here are the reasons why. Jevon Kersey was swirtched to the right look at what happened to his sack totals. He will have Geathers and Pollak taking that double team off him. He will have more trash time because of our O, The guy never had that before. Whens the last time you heard coverage sack in cincy? Winning will make this guy a star IMHO. Quote
NJ29 Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 I'm getting tired of these "is Player A good or bad?" threads. It's the second one in as many days. Not to mention the "Matthias Askew, is he a bust" or whatever threads. We'll find out this season. Quote

The_Next_Big_Thing Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Spain, is it a country that has nothing but idiots who have nothing to do but ask if every player on the team is a bust or not?Your thoughts? Quote
IckeyShuffle Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 skyline said it.Its the 3rd category which is "solid player". There are a few other categories besides star and bust. He is relentless, he is still improving, he makes the occasional big play, is not horrible vs. the run and is pretty good against the pass. Makes him a solid starter, you could do worse with a high draft pick like Courtney Brown. Let's save the "bust" talk for more deserving canidates like Neil Rackers, Lamont Thompsn, Travis Dorsch, Craig Yeast and Sean Brewer. Dang, so glad those years are over. God bless Coach Lewis. Quote
Rimington over Marino Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 A no.4 overall should have more sacks than the 8 per year Smith has. He is just not quick enough. I would expect him in the same class as Dwight Freeney or Terrell Suggs. How about Seymour the player I wanted. Part of the reason he isn't, is because he is a Bengal. Let him go to another team and he might be All Pro like Spikes and Dillon. It seems to be the trend. I will see what happens if he plays with a big lead in the 2nd half of games. However he will never be in the Elite class some here expect or think he should be. Quote
UofLnMU Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 When I've seen the guy on TV, which honestly, isn't as much as most folks here (living in GA without NFL Sunday Ticket), it seems like he over-pursues. I'm a Mizzou alum, and while I'm proud to have gone to school while he did, I had hoped for a little more at this point. This year should herald a change, blah blah blah. Quote
Spain Posted June 22, 2005 Author Report Posted June 22, 2005 OK guys, if no one thinks this guy is a legit star the real ? is ? Is he worth keeping in the future? How much is this guy worth? One thing Im watching for is if they try to extend him will realy show me if he is in our longterm plans. Sorry guys if you dont like the post but not really much to talk about in the long offseason. walshfan Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Ive read worse posts on this board besides Spain's.....As far as Justin Smith goes....What do you think another team would pay him to sign with them? 1 mil? 2 mil? 3mil? Apparently alot of teams have a higher regard for Smith the the fans around here do.. He's solid...not spectacular but solid. He TRYS on every play... give him that much.. He needs another move and hopefully they'll incorporate that in his rush..... Quote
DesperateDerelict Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Neither Star nor bust . . . how about disappointment? over-rated? fan-favorite? Quote
Steve4192 Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 As far as Justin Smith goes....What do you think another team would pay him to sign with them? 1 mil? 2 mil? 3mil?Take a look at Grant Wistrom.Grant was a top 10 draft pick from a Big 12 school who never put up huge numbers during his six seasons with the Rams. Wistrom averaged 6.9 sacks/year and his 47 tackles/year paled in comparison to Smith's tackle totals. Yet, when free agency beckoned, the Seahawks bellied up to the bar with a six year $33MM contract and a whopping $14MM signing bonus.Expect similar numbers for Justin Smith when he hits free agency. Quote
Spain Posted June 22, 2005 Author Report Posted June 22, 2005 I agree the lacks respect. Kearse went to the the right and had very similar numbers. Look at what he did on the left. I would really be dissapointed if Smith didnt get at least 12 -16 sacks. If he gets inside that range we have a big pay day coming for him Levi and Willie. Marvin also stated in his interveiw that he moved J Smith to get the best out of his run stopping ability. IMHO After reading some of your guys insight I think this guy has been a victim of a couple of things. First horrible defenses(its hard to be good when no one else is). His draft position also places alot of pressure and expectations that very few can justify ealry in their careers. RDE wil kill anybodies sack totals. the more I watch tape of this guy the more a think he will be a star in this leauge. Quote

tibor75 Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 Comical that any Bengal fan would ever think Bustin is close to being a "star"Well, he is our best defensive lineman. Quote
cincy9275 Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 he's solid with the added help he should put up better numbers Quote

"Yes he is our best D linemen, but thats also works agaist him in his sacks1.)he can't use the special moves because it will hurt his defense2.)Sense he's the best D linemen he is the one who gets double teamed3.)RDE so he's facing the best tackles agaist each team4.)Horrible defense sense we drafted him Quote

Freeney isen't very good vs the run because the moves they allow him to us,if Justin was able to use spins etc I'm sure his sacks would go up but his tackles/defense agaist the run would go down. Rimington over Marino Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 Guys watch the games. Even when he gets past the tackle he can't chase anyone. He can only sack stationery targets. Clemons is quicker, marginally. Quote
