When he had the op to start for the Deadskins for several games, he was plenty durable...and effective. If Rudi goes out, I'd be all right w/ Watson coming in as an all-downs back. In fact, I'm not sure the overall offense wouldn't be improved with Watson in instead of Rudi because of Watson's ability to catch and run.
