The Big Orange
Brock Marion has been on the market now long enough for us to be able to bring him in for the minnimum and he had a decent year last year (66 tackles, 22 asst, and 3 int) and played in all 16 games. I didn't see if he had decided to retire, but he is atop the FA list for available safeties. He would give us some much needed depth at the position, but if Herring is doing well, and I haven't heard a peep, then Brock probably wouldn't start. NJ29
Marion's a good player, but he's always been a free safety. He's kind of a ballhawk, not an enforcer. He's not a strong safety, and I wouldn't want to move Madieu back to strong, when he's coming into his own so much as a free safety.
schweinhart
I'd rather see The Silent Assassin at SS
jrandom42
Won't happen, except in your dreams. Marvin wants safeties who can cover slot receivers as well as give run support. Landon Johnson doesn't have the speed or agility to cover a slot receiver, like Warrick. Asking him to do so is just begging the opposing QB to victimize him on every play and REALLY make him look bad.
LABengalsFan09
I thought Brian Simmons was the silent assassin.... But Landon fits the monicker also...
Kirkendall
This was a subject last year if I recall before Marion going to Detriot (or wherever he went). I think mostly $$ and age were his short-comings to become a Bengal. Mostly. I don't even think we've got anyone scheduled to come in to even chit-chat right now and, aside from injury, I think this team is all but set. The_Next_Big_Thing
We will sign our draft choices and be done with signings until there are injuries we need to fill in for.
bengalboomer7
We don't need a thing. Herring will come in a little more ready and I'm hoping a year of learninga andn Big Bad Myles becomes the SS. (Hey don't trample on my dream either )
OSUBengal
I doubt we'll see any more players added. Lewis is happy with Herring.
kingwilly
Let's see how Myles and Body wash out. Unless the position is decimated by injury don't bet on a S to be signed. The position I'm most nervous about is RB. Perry - Still hurt. Watson - getting better. Some other scrub next in line...Hmm...Rudi turns an ankle and who starts?Quincy Wilson? What is the number for Amos Zeroe's agent? Someone email it to ML just in case. They still want to unload Travis Henry up in the armpit......Send them Schoebel and Bramlet. KiLBurn
We don't need a thing. Herring will come in a little more ready and I'm hoping a year of learninga andn Big Bad Myles becomes the SS. (Hey don't trample on my dream either ) A while back, when Marvin was asked if he had plans to move a LB to the SS position, he said no to moving one of his LB's back but hinted that he thought one of his CB's was a possibiltiy.I think Terrell Roberts is who he was hinting at. bengalboomer7
Myles asked ML and I believe is trying to put on about 20 pounds to do it
KiLBurn
From Bengals.comTerrell Roberts (5-10, 197)After two seasons playing primarily cornerback, he's going to give safety a shot with his good size. Has a knack of being around the ball with a pick, sack and forced fumble in his career. But he had only one special teams tackle last year.Myles isn't the only CB giving SS a go. Marvin has said he wants his safeties to be interchangeable. I take that as meaning that both Safety positions need to be able to cover receivers. The Big Orange
Very nice, Billy. Love the pic...did you do a little photo shop or did you find that? We love another knowledgable voice around here, Kilby. Nice thought on safety. I am in huge need of assurance at the position. Hobson...throw me a frickin' bone here will ya...it's still 65 days 'til the 1st preseason game.

schweinhart
Marvin has said he wants his safeties to be interchangeable. I take that as meaning that both Safety positions need to be able to cover receivers. In an ideal world, both safeties can cover and ,when necessary, tackle RBs of the power the Bengals will face in the North. The latter looks like the problem this year...again.1 safety has to chore the box when given the call. Having both interchangeable enough play the box would also be great. I just don't see K2, Roberts, or Myles ever being effective enough there. All 3 can cover well enough, but I lack confidence in any of them vs. Jam, Droughns, or Duce.ML is banking on his old Ratbirds to bail out the position. Maybe Herring and Mitchell can get it done, but I doubt they will over the long haul of the season. At some point. I belive Madieu will be the 8th in the box SS, which is good in the sense that he can do it. It's bad because forcing him into that position takes away his greatest strength of coverage and playing the ball.
