HoosierCat
Good job there, Ross old bean. You'll hold out unless you get a $38 million contract?Browns Sign Ex-Card LT SheltonGonna be lucky to get 38 cents now, Ross!
Sox
Watching Droughns hold out for a while, and now this....well,it seems the Browns have inherited the disease of the Bengals past.
BengalszoneBilly
"They obviously don't want to pay me what I'm worth, so why don't they just freaking cut me?" Verba said by phone. "They don't even return my agents' phone calls. To be disrespected like that is total B.S."Uhh...excuse me assh**e, but the "disrespect" started with YOU by not honoring the terms of the contract you signed with THEM! Up until that point, respect was good on both sides! So go ahead with this brilliant hold out idea of yours and your agents. Shelton won't mind taking your spot in the least! If you're lucky, you'll be playing in the Arena Football League instead. I hear that everybody holds out there!
HoosierCat
Geez, get a load of this (from the Plain Dealer):Browns to let Verba go for $465,000Wednesday, June 08, 2005Tony GrossiPlain Dealer Reporter Ross Verba will be released by the Browns today when he agrees to repay a $465,000 roster bonus to the club. That option was presented to Verba and agent Tom Condon in a letter last weekend. Verba also can seek a team willing to trade for him, but that option is riddled with obstacles. A source close to Verba said Tuesday that Verba would give back the roster bonus to gain his freedom. He wants a contract better than the one that pays him $2.9 million in 2005 and 2006. Verba's exit was in the works after he told owner Randy Lerner he wanted out of Cleveland.Wow. I mean, I know the bengals have had many, many player troubles...but I don't ever recall anyone so desperate to get out that they paid Mikey half a million bucks to gain their freedom! How much must it suck in Cleveland these days???
schweinhart
Go Clowns Wouldn't be surprised, though, to see Verba fetch close to what he wants from Houston.
HoosierCat
Go Clowns Wouldn't be surprised, though, to see Verba fetch close to what he wants from Houston. I would be -- very surprised. Verba will turn 32 midway through this season and he's only an average player. He'll generate some interest, but at best I think he lands a deal similar to the one the Bengals gave Richmond Webb: $9-10 million over three years, with about half backloaded into the last year (which he'll never see). Kirkendall
I've suspected the whole time that Verba doesn't really want a contract upgrade, he just wants to leave Cleveland. Hell, can you blame him?

You're right...I was looking at the $3 mill he's already got not the 5 yr-$38 mill. There's a slight difference I doubt there's any organization out there with the the incompetence level to sign Verba for the kind of money he states in the article except for the Redskins --- but they're pretty much set at LT.He might stand to gain more than the Webb deal, though. The Texans and the Bills should be among the teams to drive Verba's price up if he can get out of the Mistake w/o being traded first. jjakq27
Didn't we make a run a t Verba a few years back? I am glad things worked out so well for him in C-land. Playing for the Bengals doesn't look so bad after all.

Offered him the same money as Cleveburg and he went there, IIRC.Schweinhart seems to be on the money with the Texans, word is they want him...but aren't exactly keen on the $38 million thing... jjakq27
The bottom line in all of this:Yet another down-grade for the Cleveland team ... I like Romeo Crennell but I hope we crush the Browns in Game one. Marvin is 0-2 in opening day games and I would like him to pass the torch to the Browns....
