walzav29
On sportscenter this morning I was watching how Eli called Shockey and wanted him to get up to NY. He was trying to take charge. I like how Palmer EARNS his players respect. He didn't come in like a hotshot. He came in and appeared to be a humble guy who wanted to learn what was going on and get his teammates to believe in him. I think Palmer will have a Super Bowl before either Manning. walzav29
After watching Manning against the Gators back in the day, and I thought last year he would be absolutely unstoppable in the playoffs. The flop in all of those games shows me that Peyton will have a career of choke, and I believe the Bengals defense will be better than Indy's. The Bengal's aren't intimidated by the Patriots. derekshank
I don't know if I want to call Peyton Manning a choke. The team he loses to every year is only the Patriots... only the team that has won 3 out of 4 superbowls... only the team that no one beats... not even the Bengals. We can talk about how Carson isn't intimidated by them, but they still beat us. Sure, we were in the game.. but no one knows what would have happened if he hadn't got hurt. We all like to assume Carson would have led us to victory, but we were still losing when he left. Now after they hurt him, maybe he is intimidated by the Patriots now. They could be in his head. You never know... that is what they seem to do. Anyway... Peyton Manning isn't a choke... the Patriots are a dynasty. There's a difference. BengalNation1281
I think that we will win the championship with Carson before Daddy's Boy wins one up in NY, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that we will win one before Peyton wins one in Indy. Lots of QBs have/had problems beating one team, but I think that Peyton will get that monkey off his back before his career is over. Indy seems to be looking to upgrade their defense, and if that defense can give the offense even a little bit of help then we are all in a lot of trouble (kinda the same situation we're in at the moment). But NY is still at least another year or two from contending for the playoffs, and I don't think Eli is gonna pan out the way that lots of people think he will. bengal4life
I again agree with you Derek, one major thing that makes the Pat's the Pat's is they don't MAKE MISTAKES. I have game after game and the only time they lose is when they make a mistake. I think the Pat's are in big trouble this year with losing Romeo, he was Peyton's criptonite (excuse me if I misspelled criptonite) with all the different fronts on defense. If the Bengals can hold their mistakes to a minimum they will be a dominant force on the field.By all means Peyton is not a choke he is and will probably be the best quarterback in the league in the pocket. If any team can flush him out of the pocket they will have huge success against the Colts. Thats what every team that beat them last year did was flush'em. I am so eustatic with JJ realizing what his role is in our offense. If he can get off to a good start this year unlike last, there is no reason why Rudi Ali won't go to the Probowl again (and not by default) this year.Is it August yet? :player:
CTBengalsFan
I'm sorry but I can't take Eli seriously, he just looks and sounds like a tard. Not to mention he's been spoiled to the max. If I was someone who started in poverty and worked my way up to the NFL I don't think I'd respect Eli much if at all...

brian5562
If Peyton wants to win a Super Bowl before Carson he better do it this year. Cuz after that the Bengals are going to be Kings of the NFL.

Career of choke huh??? You must have a crystal ball in your room... Manning lost to one of the greatest teams in pro football history.. 3 titles in 4 years. a 34-4 record the last 2 years... seems everyone was "choking" then werent they???? Not sure if the examples are comparable. Palmer was told immediately after being drafted that unless disaster struck he wasn't going to play a single down his entire rookie season. Compare that to Eli Manning's situation with the Giants, where he was given some consideration as an opening day starter, and was all but guaranteed that he'd play plenty before his rookie year ended. Simply put, the Giants pushed harder...and demanded a show of leadership faster than the Bengals did. In fact, the Bengals very outspoken plan to sit Palmer for a year deprived him of almost all opportunities to lead, capable or not. But getting back on topic, in Manning's defense he has to play the part of a leader right now because the Giants are expecting him to. Probably demanding it regardless of how much he's proven or earned.

andybren
Eli's all pedigree and no proof. He's Kyle Boller with a famous family. Maybe it's just the NYC media, but I don't think you'd be hearing about Carson begging teammates to show up if the roles were reversed.Peyton is his generation's Jim Kelly. Not for any concrete, scientific reasons, but just because some guys never make it all the way to the top. And just how long will Indy be able to keep together their one-dimensional team? He's got one more shot. Two max.

I would have loved to hear Shockey's reply to Eli's "demand/request for him to show up. Knowing Shockey and his documented history for speaking his mind, I bet he told Eli, "Who the hell do you think you are boy? Shut yer yap brfore I smack the s**t outa both you and your daddy! One of my favorite moments in the history of sports was from the time SD drafted Manning until the trade was announced. BengalPappaw
The one thing that Carson did better at USC than he is currently with the Bengals is hit the wide open WR on the run without breaking their stride. I expect this weakness to be cured this year -- and the sky will be the limit. With multiple WRs, with speed and good hands, Carson will show how great he IS and WILL BE. schweinhart
IMO CP needs to know when to run to move the chains. The more the defense gets stretched, the easier this will be for him to do when he recognizes he should take off or is told by coaches he can run if he sees it. It's a very minor part of his overall game, but it's a factor in every game.CP was finding the touch in a major way before he got hurt. I don't think Eli will ever come close to being half the QB CP will be.

I agree! While he is not a blazer -- he does have decent speed and showed in college the ability to make good gains when forced to run. As a pro, I think he has been told to be more selective about running, because we can NOT afford to have him get hurt. IMO One key to his development will be his decision process on when to run and when to throw the ball away.I believe he will be get better and better -- the more he plays. The future (and I don't necessarily mean the squirrel-boy) for the Bengals looks good.
