What players are better than ours?

I was just thinking about how good our offense can be this year, and got to wondering where our skill position players would be ranked when it comes to the entire NFL. I have to say, I was a little disappointed (other than Chad)

QB

1. Peyton Manning

2. Donovan McNabb

3. Brett Favre

4. Mike Vick

5. Dante Culpepper

6. Tom Brady

7. CARSON PALMER

8. Jake Delhomme

9. Marc Bulger

10. Trent Green

(I wouldn't trade Palmer for these guys, but he is still inexperienced)

RB

1. LaDanian Tomlinson

2. Preist Holmes

3. Jamal Lewis

4. Edgerrin James

5. Clinton Portis

6. Shaun Alexander

7. Ahman Green

8. Corey Dillon

9. RUDI JOHNSON

10. Tiki Barber

(with the exception of Dillon, The guys above Rudi are all guys I would trade him for)

WR

1. Randy Moss

2. Terrell Owens

3. CHAD JOHNSON

4. Marvin Harrison

5. Tory Holt

6. Joe Horn

7. Hines Ward

8. Javon Walker

9. Roy Williams

10. Reggie Wayne

(I think Chad could be among the #1 talks by the end of this year)

TE

Please don't make me list 30 TE's before I get to our guys!

So go ahead, and crucify me, (i'm sure this post will get all sorts of hatful responses). Tell me why all our players should be ranked #1. Based on my (off the top of my head) rankings, apparently our stength on offense is that we are solid in all our positions, not necessarily having the best players at any given position. (Boy those Colts look strong though, Manning on top, Edge in the top 5, and 2 receivers in the top 10!)

I don't think that you can put Edgerrin James in front of Ahman Green and Shauin Alexander.I would definately say that Rudi is just as good as Leon McDillion.

aaaaaaaaaah hahahahahahahahahahah :lol::lol:

yea, keep thinking that

I would definately say that Rudi is just as good as Leon McDillion.

LOLOLOLOL

man you guys crack me up

Dude I wonder if this is not just your favorite hobby - crashing the 'zone and busting on Rudi, or if you actually just love Leon THAT much. Your in college still, you seem like the kind of guy that we used to beat up on a regular basis back when I was a frat boy. Are you really that much of a blowhard dipsh*t or is this just amusing to you?

i would rather have rudi than ahman green, but the rest of that dude's list are better than rudi...

i'd take julius jones, kevin jones or stephen jackson over rudi too....

rudi's a good back for our system, but i wouldn't say he's a top-10 back...

favre over culpepper?

bulger and green are both better than palmer...for now

curtis martin and alexander would be ahead of edgerrin on my list too...

ya ok. ahman green is a top 3 back. he is much better than rudi and is a game changer. only positive rudi has on him is that he doesnt fumble as much.

QB

Peyton, Donovan, Culpepper, and Brady are better than Carson. I wouldn't say Vick is. Let's face it, he's not as accurate as Carson, and the key to shutting him down is to simply stop him from running with the ball, so a spy works to stop him. Favre WAS one of the greatest QBs to play the game. Age has caught up with him, and he throws way too many interceptions. I am certain Carson will have a better season.

RB

LaDanian, Priest, Jamal, Clinton, Green, and Alexander rank above Rudi, no question. Edge? Maybe, in his good years. Corey? No way. Rudi had ALMOST as good a year as Corey last year, and he was running behind a makeshift line most of the year.

WR

Screw Moss and Owens. They talk too much and they waste too much time dicking over contracts. I'd rather have Chad. On the other hand, I'd put Marvin Harrison on top that list.

lol, nice theory - the way someone posts on a football message board is an accurite reflection of how they are in real life

If you really want answers with your post though:

I probly check this forum a few times a week on average. Im not a big fan of the Leon guy from the commercials, but since some of you like to call the greatest player in team history names for wanting to win a super bowl, im guessing you mean him. So yes, i am a huge fan of corey dillon, because he WAS the bengals for 7 years, and i dont abandon my favorite player because he left the team. And im not a big fan of Rudi Johnson, because unlike most of you, i see him for what he is... average. And no i think you have the wrong guy there. Ive only been in one serious fight, and i won, or at least thats what my friends told me, it wasnt a beat down by any means though. Im probly not much like you would expect if you met me, from my posts on here i seem kinda like an a**h*** who hates a lot of things. But in real life im pretty cheerful and funny.

check yardage, ypc, td's over the past 3 years or so and green has most ppl crushed. hes a top 3 back cuz he makes brett favre even at his old age look better than he is. favre stinks it up 80% of the time now...face it, green is their main option and without him carrying 20+ in a game, they have no shot at winning.

Yes I know I am a homer... you'll hear me admit it all the time. But quite honestly, I don't want Delhomme, Bulger, or Green, or anyone not on that list playing for the Bengals this year instead of Palmer. If we had Manning or McNabb, I'd let Carson sit the bench... but with most QB's in the league, I think Palmer will be better.. and that is based on his late season play against good defenses.

So take it for what it is worth. I know there aren't any non-Bengals fans who will rank Palmer in the top 10, but I'm not concerned with what they think right now. Let's see where they rank him after this year, when the Bengals get a bit more recognition.

As for Rudi... I tried to put him in the middle. I knew some of you would think I put him way too low, and others way too high. I personally don't think he is a top 10 back, but think Perry will be. So with both of them in there, he will be more effective than a lot of guys on that list, whether that is his skill level or not.

As far as Johnson being better than Owens and Moss.... not yet he's not, but he got the mouth to be well on his way to that type of recognition. I'd like to see him play with the type of determination of T.O. or raw skill of Moss... but my thinking is that he has a good blend of both, and will be in the conversation with both of them in the next 2 years. (so will Roy Williams though)

Agreed. I also don't think that Edgerrin James should be in the top 5. I'd rather have Rudi than Edge.

The difference between Johnson's mouth and Owens and Moss's mouths is that TO talks about being good and plays on the field, AND studies like a madman off the field. He dedicates himself to the team, and does whatever he can to get better, all while honoring his contracts and not holding out and being a cancer off the field. He plays 100% every game.

Moss plays when he wants to play, is always unhappy about how much he is making, and frankly, isn't worth the hassle.

TO does the same thing.

Anything above a top 15 rating for Carson Palmer smacks or homerism...Rudi at 9 or 10 is fair, Johnson in the top 5 is fair. We continue to look at Palmer through rose colored glasses...let the guy earn it...I think he can and will, but to put him up their after last season is a vote purely on potential and it's kind of lazy and sloppy. Rudi's not at his potential either...Chad is about there, TJ overachieved a little...our TE's just don't have many skills and according to our game plan, don't need many.

That said our offense will rock...we rocked last year and this year will be better. People see us as explosive and dangerous...but not consistent...and they are right. We will be better because we will be a more consistent and cohesive unit, and we are player far fewer great defenses :D

i see what you're sayin, but b/c he has more yards, td's, etc. doesn't make him a better back. he's had a great o-line to fall through. a stable, consistent system with a top-3 QB at the healm...and he has gotten to play minny, detroit, and chicago twice a year, all of which have had less-than-par defenses....

per skills alone, i think rudi's better...

In compiling a ranking like this, one can't factor in one's own optimism. Carson Palmer is just another young qb trying to prove himself. That's like me coming on here and saying Boller is a top ten QB b/c I *expect* big things of him, or saying Mark Clayton is a top ten receiver b/c I *expect* big things. Potential must be left out of the calculus.

My views on your guys, Palmer and Johnson are both middle of the pack, 12-20 or so. At both positions there are elite players, and scrubs, and a whole bunch of guys all in the middle, sort of like the distribution of NFL teams. Until they show otherwise, they don't deserve separation from the rest of the pack.

Chad Johnson on the other hand is somewhere in the 5-10 range. Moss, TO, Harrison, Mark Clayton (just kidding), Tory "Big Game" Holt, Issac Bruce (maybe), Derrick Mason (maybe), Andre Johnson (maybe).

God I can't wait for football!!

A couple of things,Vick isnt as good as Palmer TNBT is right all he can do is run. Another thing the running game has more components than just the RB. With JJ coming in camp in shape Rudi could have the best year of any RB in the leauge running behind Anderson,Steinbach,JJ. -IMHO HEre is how I rate the QBS also.

Manning

Farve

Brady

IMHO
