Chad on NFL.com

I haven't been on here for long, so I'm sure this was a huge source of conversation during the season, but did anyone else notice how chad repeatedly fell to cradle the ball when he was wide open behind receivers on the deep ball last year? I love the guy, but if he kept his feet moving instead of letting them go limp, I think he would have had 300 more yards.

Alleycat -

I, too, am a rookie. However, I get the distinct impression that ripping CJ on this board is considered blasphemy and will not be tolerated. It's akin to tearing down Lenin's statue in Moscow or attributing steroid use to Mark McGuire or making fun of Michael Jackson's sexuality or saying Pete Rose bet on baseball ......er......um.....nevermind.

That must be what he means by working on his running after the catch - he wants to still be running after the catch not lying on his belly.

As to Chad-bashing, you'll never hear me do it. I absolutely adore the guy, even his hot-dogging which I think is good spirited and brings a little flava back to this team.

But complacency with something that could clearly get better is something that characterized this team for many long-suffering years and should be avoided, whoever we're talking about.

Chad could definitely stand some improvement on the yards after catch (YAC) front. Among 1,000+ yard receivers, he isn't the worst...but his 3-yard average seems a touch on the low side:

Hey, we all need goals, right? And I think improving his performance in this area was the point of his recent bengals.com comments about becoming "more p-dubbish."

Not true, blasphemy may not be condoned on this board but it is tolerated. Sure, you might have to work in a couple of jokes about having a turtle named Jesus just to keep the mood light, but that's not too much to ask. And here's the best part. I really do have a turtle that someone else had originally named Jesus.

And just for the record, you can criticize CJ. On several occasions I've expressed some concerns about his media image off the field and his lack of maturity on it. Dinged him about how poorly he blocks when he bothers trying. Others have mentioned how poor he is in regards to yards after the catch. But the best thing about the criticism is Chad Johnson seems to be the type of player who actually listens to it and responds to it by trying to get better.
