The Big Orange
I think Nate stays since he won't do much against the cap...I think Peter goes. I don't necesarily think we should get rid of him...I'm just guessing at reading between the lines. I think we pick up a DT or SS. More for veteran depth than a starting role. Or perhaps just a one year deal for a fading vet.
CJBestInAFC
Who will be available June 1st?
The Big Orange
There are always several surprises that come along that get cut which don't show up until June 1st. The only hints are guys who are unhappy with their current contracts who may be sitting out, or guys who are coming off an injury who didn't play last year. But usually a few quality guys and tons of backup guys.
Kazkal
Well we could even use cap room to resign some of our people were losing alot of people in '
The_Next_Big_Thing
Here's a shocker... Noone gets cut for cap reasons after June 1.
bengalbutch
From what I've read and heard, Nate will not be ready this year. I think he will be on IR or released.
schweinhart
Proly be the Natester but that would push $2 mill in dead money into 2006. Be nice to have the $1.5 mill in salary saved for extension of an O-lineman contract but maybe not at the expense of all the dead money. W/ the draft picks in mind, hard to think Nate is in the future plans.A healthy P-Dub would be great but it's hard to imagine he'd be what he was. He relies on quickness of cuts and stops. Those injuries might be more damaging to him than other WRs.There might be some writing on the wall for Big Duane. That'd be another $1.25 mill saved w/ less than $1 mill pushed into 2006. Re-signing Carl Powell and Elton Patterson might be moves that have Clemons' late season injury factored in.
HairOnFire
You can normally find a list speculating about which players will be cut loose based upon salary demands, competition from rookies just drafted, or concerns over poor play last season...but I haven't stumbled upon one yet. Maybe it's a week or two early or maybe things are stalled due to this years habit of teams cutting players now instead of waiting for June 1st. Looking in a completely different direction I wonder if the Bengals will show any interest in Manuel Wright whenever the supplemental draft is held. He's a physically gifted sophmore DT prospect who played only spot duty at USC behind very highly regarded players. Expected to step into a starting role this season he lost the opportunity due to failing academic issues. Of most concern is the staggering number of classes he skipped or dropped out of altogether. His coaches claim he's not a bad guy...just a football player who has no place being in a college classroom. I've bumped into some early projections place his value as a 3rd round pick, but I've got doubts that any team will jump that early.
walshfan
Isnt the dfrat order set up determined by the previous years record.. The Bengals wont have a shot at him if thats the case...

Manny Wright is very similar to our own Mathias Askew, 6'6 325 lbs. but I think the going price for him will be a 2nd rounder, something I just don't see Marvin and Co. parting ways with just yet. andybren
Isnt the dfrat order set up determined by the previous years record.. The Bengals wont have a shot at him if thats the case... It's a weighted lottery, so technically there's a chance. But personally I'd like to see the team not get involved in talk of Boulware, Wright, etc., stick with who they have, and cash in on the advanatges of bringing back players who know the system and are used to playing with each other. For all the talk of defensive weakness, I never heard anybody suggest that things would get at least a little bit better by virtue of the players getting better. NJ29
I have a feeling that Schulters will get released by the Titans. If we could put him at strong safety than we would have above average players in each safety spot. Not to mention young, athletic linebackers who are only get better. Best Case scenario - we get Lance Schulters (for cheap)Worst Case scenario - we get rid of P-Dub.Unfortunately, to get Schulters we might have to get rid of Warrick, so I don't know what to think. Maybe we would get Shulters but lose Crazy Nate. Aw, hell if I know anything. I'm tired of think ing out loud.

Andy makes a great point here. Due to the multitude of injuries suffered by the defense last season, many young players saw a great deal more playing time than they normally would have. They took some lumps last year, but I'm hoping they've learned from them and mature early into quality players! :player:
Kazkal
Depends if a team wants to use a 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th round pick.

I've actually said that a number of times. Askew will be better, Geathers will be better, the entire defense will be better because they are more experienced than last year. TippCityRick
It would be surprising to me if Nate is with the club by the end of camp. First his injury is awful tough to come back from in less than a year. Second, we just drafted two linebackers. My guess is he is cut.Pdub only goes if he's not able to perform physically. In another tread I say that he will be our number 2 coming out of camp if he's healthy.
HairOnFire
Stole my thunder Heatmizer... Manny Wright is very similar to our own Mathias Askew, 6'6 325 lbs. but I think the going price for him will be a 2nd rounder, something I just don't see Marvin and Co. parting ways with just yet. I lean the opposite way. I think the early speculation that a team will use a 3rd round pick on Wright is too high, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he slips into 4th or 5th round territory. Maybe lower.
vman1186
If anyone goes its Webster, though his experience counts amongst such a young group of LBs. Then we would use the money to extend the contract of one our OLs. Maybe Anderson, or even better would be Jones. If Warrick is healthy, and the word is that he is, then he will not be cut. Overall, I don't expect anything major to happen between now and the start of the season.
jjakq27
It's been too quite on this front lately. My guess is that the Bengals are not going to release anyone next week. Usually there is an advance "leak" somewhere like when Hardy got released.
