Boulware bounced by Birds.

I just read several articles that paint a picture of Boulware refusing to accept a reduced role and salary. Boulware still wants to start somewhere while the Ravens were hoping he'd accept a designated pass rusher role...meaning 30 snaps or less. In the Ravens view that's way too little return for the paycheck. Injury concerns are said to have played no role in the decision and Boulware claims he's 100% healed from knee and foot dings. (Skepticism is expected from this chair.)

Here's the best part. Almost everybody moves to new positions.....AGAIN. OLB/DE Suggs moves permanently to a DE role, DE/OLB Adalius Thomas will move permanently into Boulwares old position and rookie DE/OLB Dan Cody will attempt to fill Thomas's old spot. FA addition Tommy Polley works the middle and outside as needed.

Hartwell gone. Boulware not coming back. Suggs lining up with his hand on the ground. Dan Cody has to change positions. Nice.

Yeah, that was the word a few days ago when the notion he might be cut started to gather steam. I think he would be a tremendous pick-up, but I don't see the Bengals coming anywhere near the money he wants, especially with Pollack in the house. Still, assuming he's healthy, the idea of putting Boulware on the outside and letting Pollack play his natural DE position with instructions to maul the QB is attractive.

As for the Ravens, anything that plays havoc with their D is OK by me.

He'll probably go to Cleveland.

They'd be crazy not to go after someone like him. Don't they have some change coming back from "The Soldier's" deal because he was wounded in (parking lot) action?

They could drop it on Boulware instead! Same kind of gamble with the same money! I can hear their front office shaking the dice and yellin' "BOULWARE...DOUBLE OR NOTHIN'!! right now!

I am not so sure about that ...

It is going to take a good 2 or 3 years for the Browns to make a turn around.

Would it really be smart for them to sign a high-price-older-guy who will most likely be retired by the time they do make that turn around ?

More poorly thought out observations and opinions offered in no particular order...

I'm in favor of the Bengals making a run at Boulware only if the price is right and only if you guys promise not to kill yourselves if he signs elsewhere.

I honestly thought Boulware was starting to slip even before his knee injury. He was still pretty productive laying his ears back and rushing forward all the time, but teams were starting to scheme against him very successfully. In fact, I remember one of the reasons the Ravens claimed they were so interested in adding Suggs was to reduce the opportunities for opposing teams to attack Boulware head on.

As strange as this sounds my first reaction to the idea of "moving" Pollack back to DE was negative. Hasn't he been shedding weight since hearing at the combine that his NFL future was at LB?

That said, my first reaction to the idea that Dan Cody would be moved to OLB was positive. Why? Because I think he'll struggle far more than Pollack will in coverage due to poorer change of direction skills. Cody is a straight line type.

Wow, a 7.6 million dollar cap hit.

Seriously, wow.

The Ratbirds didn't rely on Boulware last year. Why should this year be any different? He ain't Jamie Sharper. Let's go 2-0 vs. these f#ckers.

Cody don't mean crapola to Ratbirds. Why did they draft him if they don't want a 3-4 backer?

If you don't belive Pollack is gonna beat his man, then why bother? Seriously. No matter if it's BOTH DE or SSLB, Pollack is gonna hit people this year come hell or high water :player:

Uh Hairy? I don't recall seeing in anyones post above saying they really wanted him here! Most were in anticipation of the Browns making a move, if any team did. At least that's how I read it.

And when's the next pop quiz? Just wondering so we can study up a little on our observations and polish up an opinion or two for a better grade next time. ^_^

I don't see Boulware as a need right now. Before the draft it might have been tempting, but not now. Besides, saying he's 100%...thats tough considering Turf Toe is really hard to come back from 100% and then add knee injury on top of that, no good............IMHO.

From Insider:

May. 12 - The Baltimore Sun reports Boulware, released by the Ravens on Wednesday after eight seasons in Baltimore, may have an early suitor in the Bengals, whose coach, Marvin Lewis, worked with Boulware for five seasons with the Ravens. Boulware, 30, claims to be fully recovered from a knee injury that caused him to miss all of last season.

The Browns are interested in acquiring the four-time Pro Bowler, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Browns' GM Phil Savage was Baltimore's director of college scouting when the Ravens made Boulware the fourth overall pick of the 1997 draft. If healthy, Boulware could be the pass-rush specialist the Browns sorely need.

From Cleveland Dealer...

Boulware told the Baltimore Sun he would be talking to the Bengals, who are coached by his former defensive coordinator Marvin Lewis. Boulware said he didn't know yet which other teams would be interested. Boulware's agent, Roosevelt Barnes, did not return a phone message.

I think if it was reasonable I'd cut Warrick for him. He would be a great influence of Pollack because Boulware did exactly what Pollack's attempting to do quite successfully in Marvin Lewis' system. Plus he IS a monster when he's healthy and he's not that old, and we could definitely find time to play him.

First, I mentioned the possibility of the Bengals making a run at Boulware in response to Joisey's brief comment as well as due to the rumors and whispers that were sure to follow because of the past relationship between Marvin and Boulware. We're seeing those rumors surface on this board now, and I've seen a few others as I bounce around that I haven't bother posting. No need to, right? Most say the same things and few of them have actual NFL people as a source. Pure speculation. And obviously the hilarious but still unfunny jibe about Bengal fans killing themselves was directed at my pal Joisey....and anyone else who lost their heads after Sharper signed with Seattle.

Last, my remark about poorly thought out observations and opinions was directed at myself, not at others. I sometimes engage in a little free-form riffing where I throw my first impressions against the proverbial wall to see if they might stick. In this case I was pretty sure that someone would attempt to slap me silly for mentioning my reservations about moving Pollack back to a position it's fair to say he hasn't exactly moved from yet. Nobody has seen fit to call me on that point, but maybe they're just being polite.

Has anyone ever told you you're kind of unique? The only thing the usual people around here ever throw against the "wall" is their underwear to see if they can get another days wear out of it!

Polite!?! Here? Hmmm. I guess it could happen.

I was called that and a few other things each time I was banned for life from the Huddles board.

That happened three times.

Or was it four?

It hardly matters, as I was there for more than two years and rarely felt like I could be myself without risking being promptly booted. So after weighing my options I came to the conclusion that I didn't care enough about fitting in to show the required restraint....mostly due to my feelings that there's nothing wrong with the way I post. No kidding, this is almost as bad as it gets and it doesn't seem all that remarkable to me.

Besides, this is the way I'm wired. Changing isn't an option.

BTW, I like this board as much for what it isn't as for what it is. Specifically, it's not as negative as Huddles, nobody shoves Bible scriptures down my throat on the main board, child-like political yammering can be easily ignored, and I haven't run into any mods who apparently suffered severe brain damage when their soft skull impacted against the windshield or steering wheel. Best, it seems a little more forgiving of those of us who don't fit into traditional poster molds....though I do find it a little disturbing that Big Orange had to stop posting pictures of naked fat men. I can't help it, they made me laugh. But then again, most things do.

So now that I've gone all weepy for no apparent reason, which one of you fugtards wants a hug?
