There are far more sixth round guys who go on to do nothing than those that become rising stars.

(cough)

Tab Perry

(cough)

have you seen him play?

are you prepared to say, without seeing him play, that he isn't an upgrade over Cliff Russell?

Was I the only one dissatisfied with the bengals return game on kickoffs last year?

Is cliff russell not worth pushing?

scroll down to pick 199, round 6

Why don't you scroll down to pick 194, 184, 167, 170, 171, or any other number. Tom Brady is a great player, but there are few great players available in the sixth round. You can find some good players, but if you are looking for good players, you can't be too concerned with your needs. After all, in 2000, Drew Bledsoe was still firmly entrenched as the starter for the Patriots and had a huge contract. QB definitely wasn't a need. Further, no one thought Brady would be a great player, not even the Patriots. They did wait until the sixth round to draft him.

Ok, ok, you're almost there, stay with me.....

....you have to pick very, very carefully and intelligently because the gems ARE there. You can't dismiss the pick, you can't say "oh, it's round 6, just pick whoever".

The pick DOES matter. I can matter a LOT, as it did in those examples.

Now....when YOU (and I do mean you in particular, among others) dismiss (and you did dismiss it, whether you deny it now or not) the importance of late round picks, this is why I respond as I do. I want those gems found, or a need met, or both. To me, it's more likely that you meet a need, since you know your needs, so you start there.

No offense, TJ, but one hour after they picked, how do you know they have not found a gem?

Probably people were yelling holy hell about TJ in the 7th back in 2001. And yet, he has turned out to be a nice find.

Point is, we don't know now, nor can we know now, if they are of that quality or not.

Only time will tell.

So yelling about it like you have been stabbed 40 times when the pick is made is a little over the top is all.

And is he better than Cliff Russell? Worse? Have you compared them? Did you go on the scouting trip to look at him? What did Hue Jackson say? What did Brat say? What did ML say?

Cliff Russell is better than he is Special teams. Now, WR, Tab Perry has the edge over Cliff. But it isn't really that big of an edge. Tab Perry prob. won't be good enough to make our team, because Marvin said it will be Harder to make the team. This pick was for competition. He will be like maurice mann and he will be cut.

I hope your right about THIS guy.

You were way the hell off on Channing, thats for sure.

Hue Jackson personally hand picked the dude, and Coach Lewis said he was by far the best player there.

I think the dude is gonna make the team.

He's 6'3 and runs a 4.4

Cmon now.

I am with you TT. Looks like a steal to me, and ML likes talent in the pipeline. Carson Palmer needs big fast guys to throw to. And he needs guys to kill themselves to get on the field and make plays. If the WRs are fighting and scratching for playing time, that's not a bad thing.

And, worth mentioning, injuries do happen in the NFL.

A lot of injuries. Depth at a critical position like WR is NOT a bad thing.

And, please. Cliff Russell? He was HORRIBLE at kickoff returns last season. Has everyone forgotten? This team needs an upgrade there. If the WR Perry can provide that compeition and an upgrade, I am all for it.

BPA. When they drafted.

The guys everyone was screaming for? Well, a lot of them seem to be undrafted. What should that tell them? The Shazor train was broken from the start apparently...
