jjakq27
As for Boomer Esiason, I think people felt his act had grown tired the moment they figured out that regardless of the matchup, the score of the game, or the time left....Boomer would always find a way to talk about himself. Boomer is actually enjoyable to listen to during the radio broadcasts of the Monday night games for Westwood One. He is on with Marv Albert and they do a good job. I always heard that Al Michaels wasn't exactly warm to Boomer while they were on MNF. http://cbs.sportsline.com/cbssports/team/besiason
HairOnFire
I always heard that Al Michaels wasn't exactly warm to Boomer while they were on MNF. I doubt Al Micheals hated Boomer more than Dan Deirdorf learned to. Or maybe All just hid his emotions better. Near the end of their run together I used to tune in just to see if THIS was the week that Deirdorf finally punched Boomers teeth down his throat. Sadly, he never did. San Antonio Bengal
In order to have a good broadcast you have to have some kind of chemistry between the guys in the booth. Without chemistry, it's not going to be fun to listen to no matter who the guys are. Anyway, I have to agree that the Marv/Boomer combo on radio is quite good. And I think you have it backwards -- Boomer should have kicked Dierdorf's teeth in. Dierdorf is just flat out annoying. HairOnFire
And I think you have it backwards -- Boomer should have kicked Dierdorf's teeth in. Dierdorf is just flat out annoying. Sorry, at least Deirdorf spent most of his time talking about the game being broadcast. Boomer spent most of his time telling old Bengal stories or name dropping about who he had just spent time with on the golf course. If he did bother talking about the game being played it was usually yammering about how the QB who just threw an incompletion wasn't as good as Boomer, Dan Marino, and Stever Young were....probably the only time you'd ever see those three players mentioned in the same sentence. But Boomer had no trouble making the comparison, and he made it often. I also cringed when he'd argue that every pass dropped was the fault of the receiver as long as the ball managed to bounce off of some part of his body. And for all of Boomers talk about stepping it up in big games, a favorite rant of his on MNF and recent pregame shows, I have a hard time forgetting his miserable performance in the Super Bowl. I may have loved Boomer as a player but I've got no use for him as a TV personality, and I'm not alone. Rudi Martzke is a respected media critic who got so tired of Boomers act that years ago he coined the perfect nickname for him. San Antonio Bengal
I wasn't necessarily defending Boomer. There have been plenty of times that Boomer has made me say "Boomer, just shut up!" But I have the same reaction to Dan Dierdorf. Dierdorf is annoying, arrogant, and pompous and those are some of his better qualities. On top of that, Dierdork is just simply boring. For what it's worth, neither Boomer or Dierdork should be anywhere near MNF.

As much as both of us could complain about Boomer or Deirdorf...well....at least they could speak well enough for viewers to understand whatever it was they wanted to say. Anybody remember OJ as an announcer? Or how about Broadway Joe?
BengalszoneBilly
Anybody remember OJ as an announcer? How could we forget? He was KILLER man!! Â Â jim rome is terrible. his show is the worst on tv. whenever i see him i just want to punch him in the face.Did you see the video of QB Jim Everett just about doing that very thing when Rome wouldn't stop calling him "Chrissy" on the show? Ol' Romey's eyeballs got as big as dinner plates when Everett called his bluff, jumped up and flipped the table he was hiding behind and knocked him on his can! He should have finished him right then and there! Â Â Can't be worse than Dennis "what the hell are you talking about" Miller.I sorta figured Miller was headed to the ashcan when he chose a Sylvia Plath reference for his opening remark on MNF. You could almost hear the entire country scratching it's collective head. When I heard that I thought it spelled doom as well. Dennis Miller does have his audience, but irregardless of what the MNF exec's thought, they're usually not holding a beer watching a football game! BengalszoneBilly
Jim Rome is the biggest douchebag on ESPN. Everyone seems to be venting on their most hated announcer or football personality, so I threw in a poll atop the thread. I have a pretty good feeling on who's going to win it already though. membengal
I refuse to vote. Paul Maguire sucks the giantest donkey balls, and you don't have him on the list.Your list cannot possibly be valid without including Maguire. The only redeeming thing about him is that you can barely understand him when he is doing Falcons games because his mouth is full of the genitals of certain QBs playing that game... I loved Miller's intellectually charged commentary. It was fun to understand his references and watch the average dumb drunk jock in the bar watching the game look completely befuddled.
