HairOnFire Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Had to go find a heat miser pic for you, tho...for reasons far too complicated to go into right now a good friend once tagged me as heat miser's opposite, snow miser...and considering our history the karma was too good to pass up... Heat miser? Snow miser? I guess I've led a sheltered life. If you recall, you had to clue me in on who Bob the Builder was. That's the type of social embarrassment that takes years to live down. However, I have heard of those two rascals, Buffcoat and Beaver, so I guess I've got that going for me. BTW, nice to see the update stating that the Bengals are still in the running for Sharper. Nothing like an agent to state the obvious, ehh? Also noticed that the deadline has been pushed back from the end of the week to Monday. Come Monday...it'll be alright...come Monday.....I fully expect the deadline to be pushed back again. Quote

How in the hell can you not know about the movie "The Year Without a Santa Claus" ? ...Are you Jewish ? LOLIt was made in 1974 ...it was like the old Rudolph movie thathad Burl Ives singing ad stuff...lemme guess ..."Rudy who" ? Anyway here is a link to refesh your memory http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072424/Meanwhile back at the ranch........I sure hope we sign that Sharper fella. :player: Quote
HairOnFire Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 How in the hell can you not know about the movie "The Year Without a Santa Claus" ? ...Are you Jewish ? Actually, I consider myself 100% pure pagan. Dionysians rule! Bacchus rocks! Hedonism? Hell yeah. And heathen help us, even though I wasn't aware of the movie I agree a year without Santa Claus sounds like a very good idea. However, if I know Hollywood they probably screwed up the ending and made it seem like a bad thing. And now, back to the Jamie Sharper thread..... Quote
HoTbOy Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 I read on the Bengals website that we are still in the running for Sharper and that Rudi came along to recruit, I guess there both from VA. It would be nice to have Simmons, Sharper and Johnson as the LB corps...So long Kevin Quote

However, if I know Hollywood they probably screwed up the ending and made it seem like a bad thing. Well, of course, it is a kids' Christmas special, after all . But a very pagan-friendly one. Heat Miser and Snow Miser are the unruly offspring of Mother Nature (depicted as a frumpy older-middle-aged woman) so you've got some Gaia-for-the-smaller-set stuff going on. And Heat Miser, for his part, hates anything associated with Christmas, and takes great pleasure early on in blasting a couple reindeer-riding elves out of the sky... . Like I said, your kinda guy. HoosierCat Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 And now, back to the Jamie Sharper thread..... Yup. Seattle papers say he's gone back home to mull offers from Seattle, Cincy and others. I look for him to pick Seattle or one of those others by Monday or Tuesday. Quote
jditty47 Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 its a huge stretch for us to get him...even more so than if we got sapp last year. can we get one high profile free agent that is still f**king good? this seems to be the question that keeps arising in my mind every offseason, and we have yet to positively answer that question. Whur CHad At? Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Sharper was seen wearing a Seahawks cap backwards...not good Quote
HairOnFire Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 This one still feels good to me....based upon nothing at all. I freely admit I've got little reason to be optimistic but that's exactly what I remain. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Maybe wearing it backwards was a sign that he won't sign Quote
HairOnFire Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Well that does it. There's no way this team will keep pace in the bidding wars if the Seahawks are giving away free hats. Quote
redsfan2 Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 Sharper was seen wearing a Seahawks cap backwards...not good Great insight ..... but I think even more telling is Coach Lewis' statement that he'd be OK with maybe signing Sharper in the next 2 weeks while Sharpers agent is saying he expects a deal by Monday. Maybe it's just me, but it just doesn't sound like they're on the same page. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted April 9, 2005 Report Posted April 9, 2005 One thing I have learned is to pay almost absolutely no attention to what Marvin tells the media. He's one of those guys that gets you to look at his left hand while he steals your wallet with his right hand I say almost, cause if we didn't it would be one less thing to talk about Quote

Maybe it's just me, but it just doesn't sound like they're on the same page. Marvin's got that Godfather thing down pretty good. I'll tell you if I want you and you will come here on our terms and like it. We are finally to the point where we don't have to beg guys to come herea nd that's a good thing, as Marvin likes to say . If it works out fine, if not then we'll move on. Sharper won't make or break this team, although he would be an upgrade over Hardy. Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Saw some stuff this a.m. on a seahags board, attributed to espn's John Clayton (said on the tube, not posted on the 'net). Allegedly Clayton said that the hags will release LB Chad Brown, whether the sign Sharper or not, which will free up something like $4 million in cap space. Clayton further put the hags' chances of signing Sharper at 40%...no other teams mentioned so I don't know if the Bengals get that whole 60% or if it's split up among the other contenders.Anyhow, FWIW... Quote
schweinhart Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Even though Sharper wouldn't fill where Chad Brown's position, the Seahawks could definitely use him because they'll be down to 4 LBs who vie for the 3 starting spots if they unload Brown. They've already cut Anthony Simmons and didn't re-sign Orlando Huff.Still, from a positional need perspective, I'd say the Bengals are hurting more than Seahawks in the Jamie Sharper sweepstakes. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 The Ravens are out of the Sharper derby. They are about to re-sign T.J. Slaughter, who will replace Ed Hartwell. So we might have that 60% chance. Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 Another note from the FWIW Dep't.:Browns | Sharper Unlikely to Come on Board? - from www.KFFL.comSun, 10 Apr 2005 08:59:47 -0700Steve Doerschuk, of the Canton Repository, reports free agent LB Jamie Sharper (Texans) probably is not in the picture for the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are not commenting on him and his agent, Tony Agnone, is not returning calls regarding a potential visit to the Browns. Quote

Maybe it's just me, but it just doesn't sound like they're on the same page. I guess I'm with Marvin on this one. I've already mocked the agents motivation for producing an artificial deadline...the first one has already passed....and I've predicted that we'll get a third deadline after the second one passes on Monday. So it wouldn't surprise me very much if this thing plays out right up to draft day. However, ignoring the flexible nature of an agents deadline for just a moment, I think it's very reasonable to assume that Sharper and his agent will make one last phone call to the Bengals before signing elsewhere. Granted, it might turn out to be a very short phone call, but I'm still betting that it's made. Quote

Wouldn't surprise me a bit. Both the Bengals and the Seahawks have been popular "leverage" teams in the past, i.e. clubs FAs visit to jack up their price elsewhere. And honestly, I have a hard time seeing how Sharper would be excited by joining either squad. I mean, c'mon, you finally manage to get out of expansion Houston...and the best you can find is Seattle or Cincy? Sheesh. Seattle's lost a bunch of people in FA, their star RB and the organization aren't speaking, the front office is being rebuilt, and they could barely crawl over .500 against what passes for competition in the NFC. And Cincy? Sharper had a front row seat at the Bungles Comedy Theater for several years running, and has no doubt heard every organization horror story through the AFCN grapevine. Marvin or no Marvin, the idea of suiting up in stripes probably gives him night terrors. Not only wouldn't I be surprised if this plays out until draft day...I wouldn't be surprised if it plays out well into training camp. You never know who might get hurt... Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 I think the tohught of him playing for the Hags D would terrify them. They are horrible! We are much better defensively than they are. Quote
Sox Posted April 10, 2005 Report Posted April 10, 2005 It's rather amusing.Go to the Seahawks Insiders board, one poster made the statement that Sharper should play for the Seahawks since they were "closer" to going to the Superbowl. If going 9-7 in the weakest conference in the NFL makes you closer to the Superbowl...so be it,lmao.
