walzav29
I was listening to the NFL network on Sirius, and they we're saying that the Bengals look like another 8-8 or 9-7 team. What the hell do these guy's think is going on in Cincy? Is Marvin going to go 8-8 his entire coaching career? I think it is obvious that this team has been heading into the right direction, and is ready to make the jump to the 10-6 - 11-5 range. I just don't understand why every year the publications say we are a year away. Well this is the year dammit, and I can't wait for everyone to jump on the bandwagon. Especially that damn John Madden! R-U-D-I
Not that I don't share your sentaments, but from an outsider looking in - what have we done to make them feel differently. We've re-signed all the same players that were 8-8 last year. If they didn't watch us last year and see the development of our young guns on O and D, then they would have no reason to think we're going to be better. And honestly, I think we need a good draft to push us over the edge and into the playoff contender realm.
walzav29
I think this draft will be compared to the final shove through the door. I think the young guys are getting better and better. I think I would like to see them trade down to aquire more picks, because there seems to be alot of equal guys. I don't know how much of a difference there is between say David Pollack and Matt Roth. Kiper says they are going to take the CB out of Auburn (Carlos) in the 1st. They will also need a receiver. Most of all a pass rusher. The draft will be fun! Section 310
Barring Philadelphia's forfeit in week 17, this team wouldhave been 7-9. We cannot stop the run and the LB situationis quite unsettled. The offense looks talented, but until theD shows it can stop Suggs, Staley, Bettis and Lewis, howcan you argue this team is any better than last year?We have to hope Marvin can pick up a couple moreMadieu Williams-type immediate impact players. Ifthe defense can play consistent football and keep theopposing RB's in check, then I believe this team could gosomewhere. We also need a healthy preseason. It killed us last yearto go into the season with Anderson, Braham and Simmonsout or playing hurt.
Kirkendall
I like flying in under the radar. I don't need all the NFL analysts to praise us like we deserve praise from going 2-12 to 16-16. I'm with R-U-D-I on this one. If I wanted praise about my team, I'd have become a Pats fan 4 years ago.But at the same time, I understand the frustration too. I mean we go through the Age of Helplessism and now have relative success we feel we should be talked about in a more positive, and frequent, light. How could any Bengal fan not frustrated with that?!Then again, a lot of teams in the NFL get the same treatment as us. We're not in that elite status...... yet. It killed us last yearto go into the season with Anderson, Braham and Simmonsout or playing hurt. Yup yup yup.The other factor to consider is the division. Baltimore has made solid moves, getting guys like Rolle and Mason, and they will have their own stable of draft picks and key players who were hurt last year to plug in come September. Pitt could slip badly and still win 10 games. And Romeo Crennel is wasting no time flushing out the blockage of turds pumped into the pipes up in Cleveland by that idiot Butch Davis. Cleveland will be better this coming season -- and it's worth remembering that even when they sucked last year they still took one from us, and we needed 58 points to win the second encounter.I don't doubt the Bengals will be better come this fall...but it's not clear that they've made up any ground on Balti and Pitt. If you were to ask me right now for a season prediction, my first response would be it's way too early, and my second would be that, that said, 8-9 wins sounds about right. ArmyBengal
Say what you want to about last year, but if you look at the games played, we could have EASILY ended up 11-5 as opposed to 8-8. We "should" have beaten some of the teams we lost to... Tennessee anyone ??? Lest we forget we played almost every top 10 defense last year and Rudi still put up over 1400 yards. We are going up against weaker D's this year and I envision many shootouts !!! I believe our D will be "better", but only time will tell if it will be good enough. If we get Sharper, I say playoffs are NOW, as I don't see Miller being the man in the middle IMO. Is it just me, or does he seem to timid for a MLB ?? Anyway, there are improvements being made by other teams in our Division, but still think the Bengals are going to be there in the end... 10-6 at worse... :player: WHODEY !!! Bobcat Bengal
I've become accustomed to no one giving us respect. I post at Eagles and Steelers sites, and when they're not circle jerking each other, proclaiming how great their teams are, they waste no time bashing me, even when I've repeatedly told them I come in peace.I can't respect a forum that only has, or wants ALL posters from one team. Give me a f**king break. Nothing like turning football teams into CRIPS and BLOODS territory, idiots. "What set you claim cuz?"I like the fact that we have Bills, Ravens, Turds and Steelers fans that post on this board, but then again, I live diversity.I got off the topic a little, but like Kirk alluded to, we'll just have to give these clowns a rude awakening. (Bronco's anyone?) That's the only way we'll get our 'so called respect', which means we become media darlings, and get the bandwagoneers to go along for the ride. Besides, our team is just about set, like Coach Lewis said, we're about 3 pieces away from making some noise. Run Stuffer, Pass Rusher, C, WR/TE.What else are we really lacking in? HoTbOy
Have we forgotten the 90's also, we have not really done anything before Marvin came. Every true Bengals fan know that the D played better against the run in the 2nd half of the season. The only signing we really made besides our own was Robinson, so the publications don't think that a 9 year vet is the answer. But we have players who are going to be 2nd and 3rd year players who I believe will step up like Williams and Ratliff did last year. I think we can play with ANYONE in the league on O, I think the key is LB, the Robinson signing helped alot, just because he is an upgrade over Tony Williams, Hardy has to go, he is to slow, Miller is not MLB material too small. Everyone thought that Webster was the answer and now he's out. We need a tackling machine at MLB, so the RB's get no YAC. So the magazines are going on past history, the Ratbirds won a Superbowl and everyone knows about Lewis and Reed, the Steelers went 15-1 last year with a rookie QB, so how much are they going to knock the Steelers. We on the other hand have the 90's and the pre Lewis days to look back on. We all know what is brewing at PBS, is this the year EVERYONE finds out is the ? jjakq27
With the big backs in our division, I am convinced that they will take either a LB or a big safety as their first pick. Stopping the run will be the thing that allows this team to go to the next level (10+ wins).
BengalszoneBilly
Who f**ckin' cares what these guy's think or say. Did you hear any of them talking about the Steelers going to the AFC Championship game? Hell no! They don't know. s**t. Especially Madden. He's never had anything good to say about the Bengals. Not even in the Super Bowl years. He can stuff his mic up his a$$ as far as I'm concerned, that "too afraid to fly in an airplane," lard ass chump. San Antonio Bengal
I'm with Billy on this one. Who cares what the talking heads say? Respect is earned, not given away. Two seasons of 8 - 8 does not earn you respect. All that matters is what happens on the field and if the Bengals do the job on the field and get back to the playoffs, the respect will follow. HairOnFire
If it makes you feel any better, about a month ago the talking heads on Playbook predicted the Bengals would win 11 games this season. No kidding, that groups remaining questions were limited to how much improvement the defense could likely make in a single season....a factor that would dictate just how deeply the Bengals could go in the playoffs. Sox
Even with NO changes to the defense,if Palmer had played the first seven games at the same level he played his last six,we would have won 10 games last year. The Bengals WILL make a lot of noise this year. Arizona
I agree completely with Hotboy. Judgements are based on history, and two average years don't qualify a team for major expectations.

HairOnFire
Arizona, the picture in your post is disturbing. HairOnFire
HOF -- I think that was the Madden '03 commercial wasn't it? Maybe. For some reason the image of potato chips popped into my mind the moment I glanced at the picture. Then again, maybe I'm just hungry. Or as ridiculous as it might sound, perhaps there was a potato chip angle to the Madden commercial? Yeah, that's it. Man, I've got to eat a chocolate bar or something. My head is swimming. oldschooler
Marvin Lewis has done a complete overhaul on this defense. There is only 1 player left on the D-line that was there when hegot here...Justin Smith. There will only be 4 players left on the entire defense (starters & back-ups)from when he 1st got here (if they don`t get cut)....Kevin Kaesviharn, Reggie Myles , Brian Simmons and Justin Smith...As far as the Offense goes...something should be said aboutchemistry and continuity. Marvin said "I have a plan"...just sit back and watch him work.
turningpoint
yep, I kinda hope people think we do suck..until about the 6th week in the season when were 6-0/ 5-1, and they realize hey! they are actually good....in fact maybe a powerhouse! :player:

Arizona has posted here for a while now, and he's cool (for a Ravens fan).It doesn't bother me at all that he has that signature there.I'd have the Carson Palmer go-ahead pass to TJ as my sig if I posted on the Ravens site. And yeah, it was one of the draft commercials for Madden.
