bengalboomer7 Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 I believe this is after the Rudi and TJ signing. Finally some salary cap clarityWe've gotten a look-see at the current cap numbers for each of the 32 NFL teams. And here's the cap space each team has or, as the case may be, hasn't. Raiders: $300,000. Buccaneers: $406,200. Patriots: $532,500. Falcons: $564,300. Dolphins: $1,110,200. Saints: $1,170,600. Giants: $1,317,200. Redskins: $1,502,900. Jets: $1,573,500. Seahawks: $1,829,900. Buffalo: $2,020,100. Chiefs: $2,021,600. Broncos: $2,183,700. Titans: $2,266,700. Steelers: $3,000,500. Panthers: $3,290,500. Texans: $3,832,700. Lions: $4,469,800. 49ers: $4,744,700. Bengals: $5,163,700. Rams: $6,018,700. Packers: $6,069,400. Bears: $6,160,600. Ravens: $7,058,300. Chargers: $7,278,900. Browns: $7,974,400. Cardinals: $7,999,000. Colts: $8,192,200. Eagles: $8,523,200. Vikings: $9,398,000. Cowboys: $9,725,500. Jaguars: $11,348,800. Keep in mind that all teams still need to sign their draft picks, so those with less than $1 million in cap room are going to either be restructuring contracts or shedding players. Also, teams with high-priced franchise players (e.g., the Raiders, Saints, Colts, Seahawks, 49ers, Chargers) could pick up some space come July by signing the guy to a long-term deal -- or sooner by trading him. For teams that enter the season with large remaining cap balances, the excess can be used to extend contracts. Quote
TJJackson Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Really hard to believe the Colts have any cap room at all after signing all those mega deals with their offensive players..... Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted April 1, 2005 Author Report Posted April 1, 2005 that's why they didn't sign james. I wonder if that includes his franchise tag. Quote
Tampa Bengal Posted April 1, 2005 Report Posted April 1, 2005 Where did you get the numbers at? Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted April 1, 2005 Author Report Posted April 1, 2005 profootballtalk.com. I know that's not the most reliable source, but it would be hard to skew these numbers Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 Clayton's latest cap update (yesterday, April 1)http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/stor...john&id=2004973jibes with the $5 million number above. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted April 2, 2005 Author Report Posted April 2, 2005 SO, saving 3million for the draft, we could technically sign another player without having to cut one, despite Hobson's reports. However, don't they try to save money for mid season pickups for injuries and brigning up practice squad players? Quote
schweinhart Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 $5 mill under would be great....Sign the rooks, resign either Braham or Fontenot, and bid for Sharper. But I doubt the number includes the 2 RFAs who have yet to sign (IIRC) Baumann and Kenny Watson. Both were tendered but I don't remember them signing. Those 2 would be another $1.3 mill. Maybe even more if Watson gets a higher offer sheet between now and a week before the draft and the Bengals want to keep him. Quote
oldschooler Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 That $5 million is basically waiting for Braham (maybe Powell)and our draft picks... Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 That $5 million is basically waiting for Braham (maybe Powell)and our draft picks... Perhaps...but the Bengals also have yet to make any significant roster cuts, or restructure any deals. The bottom line is that if they want to sign a Sharper or a Draft, or trade for a Pryce, or whatever deal you may favor, money really isn't an issue. Quote
Chucktkd Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 Boomer, thatnks for the info.Didn't I read on Hobson's column that it would take 1 to 1,5 mill to sign Braham and 3 mill for rookies? That doesn't leave much to sign Sharper even if you cut Hardy or whomever, imo. Quote

And they only count the top 51 players (salaries) towardsthe cap until June the 1st...so most of the rooks won`t count against it til then. Quote
jditty47 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 That $5 million is basically waiting for Braham (maybe Powell)and our draft picks... powell is already signed. Quote
oldschooler Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 That $5 million is basically waiting for Braham (maybe Powell)and our draft picks...powell is already signed. not yet...The agent for Bengals defensive lineman Carl Powell says he's had "open and pleasant discussions" with the club and Jerrold Colton hopes his client re-signs.http://www.bengals.com/press/notebook.asp?...=0¬es_id=725 Quote
jditty47 Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 to me that means hes signed my mistake...i knew better than to challenge the master. Quote
oldschooler Posted April 2, 2005 Report Posted April 2, 2005 to me that means hes signed my mistake...i knew better than to challenge the master.Just don`t let it happen again. And when his money isn`t taken from that $5 + million we have left in thecap (YET) then I`d say he isn`t signed... Quote
