williamnminor
Moved from Chicago when I was 5. Stayed a bears fan until the Bengals beat the Bears in Riverfront. Still have not been a fan for a winning season, but I consider myself still one of the biggest fans now. I think that drought will end this year. HairOnFire
I've been a Bengal fan since I was a kid wearing short pants. In fact, I spent the summer of their debut season mowing grass and washing cars just to save up enough money to bribe one of my uncles into taking me to a game. (It seemed like my dad was always working.) Anyway, my uncle had very little tolerance for sports of any kind, and only after I agreed to pay for both tickets AND the gas he agreed to take me....probably because it had almost always been his grass that I had mowed and his cars that I had washed. My memory is fuzzy on the nearly 40 year old details, but I think it cost me almost every penny I had earned, and I distinctly remember I had to listen the entire car trip about how the Bengals were going to get their butts kicked, how inferior the AFL was, etc. In retrospect I'd have to guess that he was just yanking my chain due to the fact that he really didn't want to waste his day watching football, but if true...I didn't get the joke. I was white hot mad by the time we arrived, and I'm talking about the type of anger that only a 10 year old kid can manage. Wait, it gets worse....or better...depending on how you feel about adults tormenting young children. After arriving my uncle whined almost endlessly about how he had to pay for parking...an expense I hadn't planned for and couldn't pay. My uncle actually threatened to leave if I didn't promise to pay him back for the parking fees. Still mad I reluctantly agreed, not feeling like I had any choice. We stuck around and watched the game and to his credit he never mentioned the money again. However, now that I think about it I don't think I ever washed his car again. Hey, screw dat, right? All things considered the entire experience probably doesn't qualify as a Hallmark memory....despite the fact that the Bengals won.

You got one sick-ass, f**ked-up uncle to do that kind of s**t to you as a ten year old kid, dude. At least you left a winner.
redsfan2
Like Billy, was a Browns fan .... because I was a kid and didn't know any better. They were also a lot classier in those days thanks to Paul Browns influence. When he left there and announced that he was going to put a team in Cincinnati, it was a dream come true. Been a fan since day one, and when they went to the Super Bowl it was like being out of breath for a week. ( Can't wait till they go again next year ) Been a Reds fan since I can remember, and took my son to Cincinnati to see his first major league game. He's a Reds fan .... and a Bengals fan as well. Next, I'll be starting on my grandson :player: Billy ......... time to break out the bio's thread again ??????????
HairOnFire
You got one sick-ass, f**ked-up uncle to do that kind of s**t to you as a ten year old kid, dude. He's actually a pretty great guy. Just a little bit "complicated"....if you know what I mean. Besides, I had begged him to take me when nobody else would, and he did so despite his disdain for sports and his unfamiliarity dealing with kids. Gotta give him some credit for that. So maybe I'm just being generous but I'd say that day left no scars on me. In fact, I cracked up while reading this thread knowing what my first Bengal experience had been like. Bgal
My mom's a Browns fan.My dad's a Bengals fan.As a child I was constantly being pulled both ways. I always knew that I liked the bengals 10x more, but never openly picked a side for a long time. Then, I'm not exactly sure when (it was before the Browns turned into the Ravens) the Bengals were playing the Browns and the Bengals scored a touchdown. Not thinking, I jumped up extremely excited. Well, that was the day my cover faded and my mom had to accept that I wasn't and never would be a Browns fan.In the end:I didn't choose the bengals. They choose me. rob_justdmb
Born and raised. My folks had season tickets since '74, but used them for business. When I got old enough I got to start going to some games. First season I really got to go to more than 1 game was 1988 when I went to 5 and both playoff games. That's enough to get you hooked through 12 years of misery.
Indycat
Was a Browns fan or more specifically a Paul Brown fan in the early sixties. Became a Modell hater when he fired Coach Brown and was ecstatic when Coach Brown started another Ohio Pro football team in Cincinnati. Been a Bengals fan since their inception. BengalszoneBilly
Billy ......... time to break out the bio's thread again ?????????? Do you mean the "Forum Members Diversity" thread? Thanks Pat. Slipped my mind! This thread and that one do compliment each other. It was one of the more popular forums threads for the offseason. So is the forum members "post your mugshot" thread. I guess I'll have to go find them and dig them out of storage. Be back in a few! BTW folks, you can find these threads to read, and add your stories and pictures to in the "General Discussions" forums. Everyone does know where that is, right? I'll link them just to be safe, and maybe help out the handicapped a bit too! Bengalszone Forum Members "Mugshots" On Display.Forum Members Diversity thread. The truth is always stranger than fiction!
TippCityRick
Moved to Cincy from So Cal at age 8. Had not watched much football so just considered myself a Rams fan. But it wasn't long (a year or two) before I was playing Isaac Curtis to my friend's Kenny Anderson in many backyard games. My Dad had season tickets for a number of years and got to go to a couple of games each year with him. Cherished times! Have gone through the ups and downs for over 30 years now and have every intention of passing on the influence to my kids.My 13 year old daughter likes to yank my chain and call herself a stiler fan, but I catch her cheering for the Bengals at every chance so I count that up to teenage rebellion that she'll grow out of. My 2 year old son already loves to cheer "Go Bengals," "Rudi, Rudi, Rudi", and "Who Dey" during games so I'm pretty confident there!! Ox
The first game I can remember was seeing a Kenny Anderson touchdown against the steelers. I must have been 5 or so. Something about the uniforms initially made me a fan. That and the fact my father would get stark raving mad when the Bengs would lose to the browns or the oilers. I guess what I am saying is being born and raised in Frankfort, Ky Cinci is as close a hometown NFL team as it gets. Seems like we've suffered for years here waiting for the Bengals to arise from the ashes - it's now time!
