The Most Crucial player to the Bengals Draft =

I feel the Bengals should trade down in the 1st round to the low 20's pick up an extra pick and then draft the player we need most Center Chris Spencer.... Braham is 35, half crippled, and unsigned, and our backup to Braham last year was a 39 year old retiree.....

Dan Pompei analysis on Chris Spencer

Best offensive lineman in the draft. Tough, dogged blocker; wins one-on-one matchups, latches on and won't give up. Takes good angles. Has short-area quickness. Gets good movement. Fires out. Has some nastiness. Don't stand around the pile when he's around. Plays with good base. Uses good technique. Could be more effective on the second level. Is better at blocking defensive linemen than linebackers and safeties. Can play guard as well. Is a former state champion power lifter. Left school after junior season.

My Shrine to Chris Spencer....

The Bengals OL coach was at his pro day and conducted his workout....

Bengal Nation ...... our first round pick should be ....

Our Center of the future.... Chris Spencer

- I watched him at the combine and he pulled like a linebacker

- for 310 lbs. he isn't fat and could probably even bulk up more

- According to TSN he gave the best interview of anyone at the combine

- He could Rival Willie for Biggest Bengals feet ever also.... with a 19

- No. 1 overall player from the State of Mississippi coming out of Highschool

- Was a state power lifting champion in the state of Mississippi, Squats over 800 lbs

- Hasn't given up a sack in his football career 4 years of Highschool and 3 years of College

- Considered by most scouts to already be better than Damien Woody

- Ranked the # 1 center in the nation

C OLE MISS

6'3

309 lbs

Size 19 shoe

War Room analysis

Strengths: Has good size and the frame to get bigger. Is quick footwork, and is very mobile. Gets into position against one-gap penetrating defensive tackles. Has the athletic ability to make blocks downfield. Shows good balance and lateral movement in pass protection. Has a strong upper body and a powerful hand punch; can jar defenders at initial contact. Is an excellent leader, is intelligent and has good character.

News

No offensive lineman shook up the Combine more than Spencer. Little known until recent weeks after leaving Mississippi following his junior year, Spencer could be the first interior offensive lineman, or maybe even the first offensive lineman, off the board. Spencer gave some of the most impressive interviews of any player at the Combine.

Ole Miss head coach David Cutcliffe:

"Chris Spencer is an extremely talented player, both physically and mentally," "He plays the game with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. He could well be one of the finest centers I have ever seen play college football."

Highschool Notes:

Won Class 5A Super Heavyweight powerlifting championship of Mississippi junior and senior years, and holds all the lift records ... During senior season, broke his own state record in the powerlifting competition, which is determined by combined weight lifted in three events (the squat, the bench press, and the dead lift) when he totaled 1,675 pounds ... That effort broke his own state record of 1,665 pounds set in South State competition earlier in the year.

This could be the Center for the Next Decade in BengalLand..... and he will protect our 50 Million dollar Quarterback

Ben Wilkerson isnt as good as Spencer... He has injury problems not as strong and his stock has dropped alot lately.. Spencer is the real deal.. Never allowed a sack in high school or collage... Powerful and intellligent... The team needs this guy to protect their 50 million dollar investment ( Palmer)... grab him while they can and draft defense heavily after that...

As I said you trade down pick up another pick and grab Spencer late in the first.

Chances are he wont be there in the second.. dont you want the very best center in the draft blocking and call assignments for the offense.. He'd be a fixture for a decade....as I said before "grab him while you can" ...

Chris Spencer makes sense. I mean after all, what good is Carson when he is lying flat on his face? We can trade down, grab us some more picks, and pick up the most crucial need for this young team.

Then it's defense from there on out, with maybe a WR depending on the Pdub situation.

I thnk Spencer has the smarts and ability to be starting before the end of the 2005 season.

I like Wilkerson a lot, but his health status is such that you'd almost have to draft another Center in round 5 or 6 as well as insurance against his health. That in turn eats up salary, a roster spot, etc. Mind you, Wilkerson in 3 if we don't get Spencer earlier is a necessity.

I'm still livid a year later that we passed on Jake Grove last year.....for 2 Carry Perry. I can't fault them for their other 2nd round picks, as those have panned out rather well :-)

Spencer is an early-mid 2nd round pick. I doubt hes there at our 2nd round pick, but unless we trade out of the first round, Lewis wont pick him. He doesnt pick for need, remember, he picks the best player available.

Just remember that when Perry is our starting RB. RBs are more important than centers.

Uhm, DPM, that fits both criteria.

Best Lineman available, and it fits a need.

Trading down in the 1st for Spencer or Baas makes sense to me.

The Packers will look long and hard at either at #24 since both can play guard or center.

The question is trade with who and for what? The Eagles have picks to burn but I'm guessing they'll look for the most impact in exchange for their picks and swap way up to #6 w/ the Titans, who need all the picks they can get.

The Eagles traded #58 to Niners last year for swapping picks 16 and 28 last year.

:player: Would really like to see Spencer in stripes; & correct he would help protect our 50 Mil QB, and Anchor our line for years to come. Much needed fill.

Also would be a much safer pick than Wilkerson, for many reasons. But if Spencer were gone Wikerson would be nice in that case.

On the subject of center: Interesting note out of Seattle today that the bengals made a run at Robbie Tobek...apparently he turned down bigger offers from us, cleveland and dallas to resign with the hags...

Odd that the bengals were chasing a 35-year-old center; if we want something like that we have our pick of Braham or Fontenot, right? I have to think they were looking to pick up some insurance in case Braham is finally done and all the good centers get snapped up before they can grab one...and having failed to do so may force them to take one earlier than they otherwise might.
