Farve influencing schedule?

BengalG

Recommended Posts

Brett Farve announced yesterday that he will play another season. Given the fact that this will most likely be his last, and the fact that his first win came in Cincinnati, do you think that his decision will influence the schedule and make the last regular season game GB at Cincy? This would create drama of Farves possible last regular season game happening in the same city as his first win. It also puts the Bengals in a tight spot because I would much rather see them play GB towards the beginning of the season when it is still somewhat warm outside.

Any thoughts?

First game, last game, who cares?

The result will be the same...J-Smith eats Favre's lunch and the Bengals show the Packers what the Jungle is all about.

However, I do think it would be cool to see Bengals-Packers on MNF for Favre's last game.

His first win wasn't in Cincinnati it was against the Bengals , in Green Bay. That game was the beginning of the Lost Decade of football ineptness.

I can see how you would say that. We were 2-0 at the time and had a big halftime lead before Favre mounted his first of many come from behind wins. I would say the beginning of the Lost Decade was when Paul Brown died after the 1990 playoff season.

And yes, season finale Monday Night Football Green Bay at Cincinnati would be cool!

The NFL seems to put Favre in every "storybook" situation they can so I wouldn't be suprised if it was a primetime game and I would love the Bengals to be the team to put him out for good. I have no ill will towards Favre, but he gets too many free passes from the media and any critisism just because he is Brett Favre. It was great for a long time, but the last couple of years it has kind of gotten old.

It was such a Bengal-like loss, too. We came in 2 - 0 under our new coach, going to GB who just lost their "star" quarterback, we're leading with virutally no chance to lose the game, boom! 30 yard wide open TD pass.

The NFL Network celebrated the news by repeating "The Brett Freaking Favre Story", narrated by Billy Bob Thornton. The thing that caught my eye was video of Favre handling the extra point attempt. He actually catches the ball, places it, then takes both hands off of the ball due to a fear of being kicked, and finally...closes his eyes as the successful kick is made. No kidding, Farve is in full recoil with his hands completely away from the ball as contact is made....the worst demonstration of holding skills I've ever seen. Oh yeah, I almost forgot....kick right down the middle.

I can laugh about it.....now.

Or how about a more realistic one...

J. Smith gets blocked out of the entire game by a backup no name tackle, finally gets a play where he has a wide open lane to the QB because the tackle forgets his assignment, and nails favre.... 2 seconds after the ball is thrown, causing a roughing the passer penalty.

When is the schedule released? Another month or so?

I think it's due to be released late March/early April.

I totally agree- this was the start of the fall for the Bengals and the rise for the Packers. That game was just ugly from the word go- big first drive of the game by the Bengals results in a fumble- big halftime lead and then the ending of the game- Still remember watching Favre running up and down on the field.

I can't recall the NFL ever setting up a schedule to suit a particular player so that his last game would be at home or on the road. Personally with all that GB has lost in FA this year, I am surprised he is coming back..

Maybe he's just a glutton for punishment? Actually I'm thinking he's somehow hoping, praying, that he can manage one more playoff run, but as Dan2330 pointed out, they've lost quite a few players from the team. Remembering how last year went for them, that may not be all bad!

i hope it is, he doesn't have much of a team around him anymore

That's really Favre's fault. He just HAD to sign that $100 mil contract. When a player usually does this then the defense falls apart. Green Bay hasn't been able to sign any big name FA's because of this AND they haven't been able to sign any of their big name players back. That's partly why Favre doesn't have any receivers to throw at any more. Here's some other players that are like this:

1. Mike Vick

2. McNabb

3. Culpepper

4. Randy Moss

I would much rather a team like the Patriots--very balanced with minimal contracts. This is why the Patriots are a deep team that manages the salary cap very well.

By the way, first time poster.

Good observation, and good 1st post as well. I think you could also add Peyton Manning Manning to that list. They don't seem to have the cash to retain James, nor shore up a "so-so" defense. Welcome to the Bengalszone forums gobengals78! :player:

Yeah, im sure if you were faced with the opportunity to sign a 100 million dollar contract, you would tell the GM that you would rather get less so that they could sign more free agents and you could have a better team. Keep telling yourself that.

And why wouldn't I? If I were Tom Brady, I would rather WIN than make the money. After all, sir, what is the real difference in making $4 mil or making $5 mil a year other than ludicrous?

As a matter of fact, didn't Tom Brady take a lesser contract so they could sign guys back?
