Bgal
per bengals.com"Denver defensive lineman Ellis Johnson has plans to visit Paul Brown Stadium on Thursday to meet with some of the Bengals coaches, according to agent Dave Levine. The 6-2, 290-pound Johnson, 31, is a pass-rush specialist from the inside and is coming off a three-year stretch of 18 sacks. Johnson played in 13 games and had three sacks last season for Denver, where Levine says he has an opportunity to return if it doesn’t work out in Cincinnati. Originally a draft choice of the Colts, Johnson played on a defense where Bengals defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan was on staff. "I don't know. He doesn't really seem like much of an improvement. I'm sure he'll be heading back to denver.
HoosierCat
Ellie Johnson would be at least as good a pickup as Jasper or Robinson, maybe a touch better. Last year, Marvin was looking for a "disruptive force up the middle" type of DT (Gardener, Sapp) and Johnson is in the same mold. This would improve my disposition a fair bit... Whur CHad At?
TJJackson Posted on Mar 10 2005, 03:54 PM Here's two guys we should be bringing in for a lookRB Najeh Davenport GBLB Scott Fujita KCWell with Jamie Sharper wanting to come here, then it is evident we wont look at Scott Fujita. About Najeh Davenport, I just don't see the point in bringing him here. It all looks like Rudi will get his long term so Davenport is prob. a no no. ArmyBengal
The Bengals will look at everyone with a pulse at LB IMO. I would love Aharper, but his wants or desires are just that.WHODEY !!!

HoosierCat
Ellie Johnson update from the Denver Post (local Cincy crowd clueless it seems)...The Broncos would like to retain Johnson and get (former Miami DT Bryan) Robinson, but are unlikely to keep both. Johnson was in Cincinnati on Thursday and is negotiating with the Broncos and Bengals. His agent, David Levine, said he could choose between the teams soon. Robinson's agent continued talks with the Broncos on Thursday. St. Louis has entered the competition for Robinson.Sounds like we can forget about Robinson; with Denver and St. Louis after him his price should quickly rise above what the Bengals are willing to pay (which, given how slow even borderline-worthwhile DTs are to take up our offer, must be pretty low...). HoosierCat
This from the Rocky Mountain News (like how at least one town's sports media is on the balll...)Defensive tackle Ellis Johnson visited Cincinnati. David Levine, Johnson's representative, said it is his goal to wrap up the situation today with the Bengals and Broncos the finalists for Johnson's services. Johnson played in 13 games for Denver last season, but his contract was voided earlier this month . . . Another defensive lineman looking to make a quick decision is unrestricted free agent Bryan Robinson, who visited Denver earlier this week. The Broncos remain in the mix along with three to four others, agent Mark Bartelstein said.So hopefully we'll know about Johnson today.Robinson up to four teams in the mix now...buh-bye... schweinhart
Either one is an upgrade over the DT slop pile there now.
