Seriouslu.. what;s with ya all wanted another cb?

We got Oneal and James starting and both are probwl talents which has already been proven.

We got Ratliff in for nickel and filling in the void wehn james or oneal need a breather.

We have greg brooks, and a possibility Weathersby makes a comeback and fills up a roster spot learning under james.

Reggie Myles also can fill in.

Also don;t forget rashuad bauman and Terrel Roberts...both have shown they can hold there own at CB..

Hell in 2 years i see us trading one of the youngs guns for a 2nd round pick, that's how stacked we are.

Weathersby if healthy along with Ratliff are capable of starting in the NFL.

At this point I wouldn't mention Weatherby's name in any discussions concerning our secondary...we have no idea whether or not he will ever play again, let alone become an NFL starter.

Obviously, that's what we're all pulling for, but we just don't have any way of forming realistic expectations at this point.

How do you pass on a guy like Carlos Rogers, or Antrell Rolle ..? Rolle has decent 4.45 speed, and Rogers has 4.31 speed and is probably the most consistent cornerback in the draft. Easily the most clear cut and deserv-ed winner of the Thorpe Award in years !

What if Corey Webster or Justin Miller fall to # 48..? Webster may not have elite speed, but he has excellent technique and size, and he plays the run like a safety.

How long is Tory James a Bengal anyways.? 2 more years? - A cornerback may not be priority, but the word is still out as to whether it's a necessity. :player:

my only concern with CBs is Tory's age. We need another GOOD corner to fill in when he's gone, hopefully Keiwan.

But I have a rule, and that is you can never have too many good corners.

Yup.

If Antrell fell, I'd like to see him in stripes.

F' the dumb s**t.

i think rattlif is going to be a very good c/b and will be better than james and o'neil. if a c/b falls to us that you can't pass on then draft him. but our front seven really needs the help more than our secondary. i would say safety is more of a concern than c/b at this point.

I agree, Ratliff is going to be a top-flight CB, and unless no significant upgrade at LB or DL is there I think we can count on some combo of James, O'Neil, Ratliff, and Bauman. We always have Madeiu (and he still may play some nickel, too) in an emergency and some special teamers like myles and terrell roberts. I'd love to see Derrick Johnson, Marcus Spears, or Merriman in stripes.

Waaaaaayyyyyyyyy more than the secondary. The way it seems to be now we're depending on the secondary to stop both the run and the pass. Too much wear and tear on those guys.

Stuff the run at the line, and our secondary will be just fine! :player:

Ratliff is the nickleback Greg Brooks will assume the dimeback duties and Reggie Myles may be a decent corner if he had a chance to play more....

the secondary gave up 8 td's last year and had 16 ints... they were one of the best units in the NFL...

Our D-line was terrible... they couldnt stop any back from running the ball down their throats.. Lets upgrade the line as much as possible and forget about getting players where we are allready strong at....

I agree that DB isn't our most pressing need. Tory James will be 32 before the season starts and while I feel very comfortable with Deltha and Ratliff back there I wouldn't be the least bit dissapointed if we drafted a corner with the 17th pick. IMO DL is the deepest position in the draft maybe as many as 20 going in the first three rounds. If we could add a Robinson that would make the first pick even more flexible as far as CB goes. But I don't know how you can rely on Brooks to come in and contribute and play well when he hasn't even played on this level yet. Roberts could be a short-term answer, but I don't think he is much more than a dime back. It could be the fact that I've seen the Bengals could carved up in the secondary for years and years with people running around back there with no striped helmets in sight, but I wouldn't mind taking a corner in the first.

With that said though, Marvin is gonna draft who he and the staff has graded out as the highest(as we all know). And with the previous drafts he has had I'll be comfortable with whoever that is-even if it's Matt Jones a bit later on day one. :player:

could not agree more. If we had a better run stopping defense, I think our secordary is deep enough that we will be just fine in pass coverage. In this years draft we need to draft for the positions we have holes at not positions to stock an already talented secondary

I wouldn't mind a CB on day 2, but we have no reason to look at CB on day 1. As it's been said before, secondary is not the problem on defense...get D-Line support, and the secondary will be even stronger than it was last year.

I think I left something out...

I was talking about getting a CB to help in the secondary. We need a SS badly, and I was talking more about the pass coverage aspect of the secondary. I still want Shazor, but we don't need to be looking at CB anytime on day one. Our pass coverage is solid enough that we don't need to worry about it.

That's what I meant.
